1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls with disabilities?

Jun 7, 2020

    1. I only have two OT dolls at the moment, one of whom I've yet to decide on a character for, but they other one is based on me. I am disabled, but to be honest, before this thread, I'd never really thought about giving my dolls disabilities, as (and this is going to sound bad) I tend to use them as escapism, and thus don't want them to 'suffer' as I know disabilities can cause.

However, my MDD's personality is an exaggerated, somewhat idealized version of my own as a child, so I guess she technically has autism? She displays a lot of the somewhat odd behaviors that I did/do, but I never specifically thought of her as autistic, as that's just mostly normal to me, lol. Most of my OCs are pretty autistic tbh, I just don't always specify as I assume people who need that representation will see it without me needing to.

    2. I have since made several of my dolls different types of neurodivergent. Some i've had for over ten years before making such characterization, but diagnoses happen at any age. I've made their condition from subtle (surgical scar under a wig,) to obvious (sunglasses and a service dog.) Right now, I'm looking for a prop that will hint at one doll's ADHD. Maybe a set of headphones for sound blocking.

    3. I don’t currently have any dolls with disabilities but I am in the midst of getting a body for one! He is a lovely boy with some joint issues (perhaps eds like me) as well as perhaps a lung condition (cystic fibrosis or severe asthma).

I know I want a disabled boy and I have some bodies that I think will fit him well, but I haven’t fully fleshed out what disabilities he will have, so if any of you all have any suggestions or questions please do not hesitate to mention them! :whee:
