Dolls with emotion

Apr 21, 2015

    1. I think I love April story for some of their dolls emotion. There's a smirky guy on there at the moment I'm in love with!

    2. Are you drawn to expressive dolls/face ups if so what kind of emotions do you go for?

I like looking at pictures of them, bit honestly I would never own one. I feel like it limits them too much in terms of what makes sense to photograph them in. They photograph really pretty on a rainy day backdrop or sad story. But For things like happy set ups it would be really out of place, the doll out be a constant negative side to any happy pictures and I think I'd lose interest in them very quickly because it would remind me too much of certain negative people in my life.

Do you have any expressive dolls or dolls with expressive face up's, or do you ever plan to have a face up done based on emotion?
Nope. Never have, never will. I prefer less defined expressions because they can fit into a vast variety of photo set ups.

    3. I adore my Piposland Cheshire Cats, their huge maniacal grin is just joyous. There is no way I can look at that face and NOT smile myself!

    4. I have changed my opinion on dolls with expression. I still don't like if they look super sad or like they are crying.

But I like the smirking Joelle D from souldoll, pipos Cheshire Cat, the iplehouse Edwing and Boris who both have subtle expressions. And Baiye from miracledoll who does have a noticeable smile expression and I'm buying him. So I do have a preference for smiles and prankster kind looks and that's what I would go for.

I'm not sure if I would do a face-up alone that would make them seem to have a specific expression, I think I would prefer to just follow the sculpt look.

:daisy Do you know any different emotion doll sculpt? *Smiling, Winking, Crying, Shows teeth, Tongue out etc.* Picture and link is appreciated. :daisy

    6. Ringdoll Mona! She's the only crying doll I've seen so far, and she's so pretty.
Some of the Unoa Chibi faceplates are grinning, and there are a lof of Unoas with winking faces. Iplehouse has a sculpt with the tongue sticking out, and Doll in Mind's Miso has a really cute grin.
I'm pretty sure that I can't use links yet, but gattogrigiobjd on Tumblr has a Miso and a Mona, and she posts pictures of them together sometimes.

    7. There a post discussing sculpts with emotions that can be helpful since there many examples and you can look them up. Here are a few examples but would be better know what size you are interested.

    13. I personally like dolls with serious or happy expressions. I can't stand dolls with super fixed sad expressions on their face like one doll from Ringdoll. That's a complete turn-off to me.

    14. I'm not a fan of really extreme or odd expressions that are sculpted onto the doll's face (I think they look cool but not something that I would like to own) but I do really like expressions brought out through the face-up a doll is given. It's (relatively) easily changed and a good way to see how different a face can look.
I like sad-looking face-ups on BJDs but I also like happy and neutral expression, it depends on the doll and/or character really.

    15. I am so happy that somebody directed me into this thread. Lately I found myself getting interested on dolls with different expression/emotion. I think they look lovely and somehow looks alive than the "normal looking sculpt". But I haven't got one for myself yet. I am eyeing the unoa winking faceplate, supiadoll hamin(smiling face), dreaming doll lia, and the crying ringdoll girl. Im thinking of getting dolls with expression and emotion and I want all my crew to be like that. But mostly of that dolls that I found is MSD, im not a fan of msd size anymore.

    16. I prefer a neutral expression, with maybe just a teensy bit of a smile or frown. That way I can project my own emotions onto the doll. I wouldn't want a doll who had an extreme emotion on it's face, because it would be stuck with the same emotion all the time.

RingDoll's Mona is a good example. She is a very cute doll and her sculpt looks amazing, but she is permanently crying and upset. That would really get to me after a very short time. I'd probably love her at first, but end up getting tired of her. LOL I can see myself yelling at her, "Snap out of it already!"

There is one doll I recently fell in love with, however, who has a serious expression, and that is Yunxin from Island Doll. He is very handsome, and his expression makes him look a bit worried. He definitely does not fit in with my doll family, and I probably won't get him, but I'm really drawn to him.
(besides the fact that he is 73cm tall and I won't get anything over SID size)

    17. I have a Ringdoll Mona and I love her to bits. I love super expressive faces! They really bring forth the artist's skill I think.

    18. I dont mind them if they express emotion, its the degree of how much that matters to me. I like being able to take photos from different angles and get different things from my girls if they were happy sad or angry by deafault it would be a waste imo

    19. I like dolls with emotion! I own two: Dollzone Nyu and Littlefee Reni. I also like Dollmore Jeemin a lot.
Neutral expressions are nice, but I think they can get a little boring sometimes. Its nice to have a doll with a big smile or a grumpy scowl to liven up a somber looking crowd.
