Dolls with extreme facial expressions.

May 2, 2014

    1. I was never really into dolls with big expressions, for all the reasons people have said before like how they aren't as versatile. But recently I've decided that I really want an Impldoll Ives. Someone already posted the link but here it is again: http://www.impldoll.com/goods.php?id=646

I know this doll isn't for everyone and a lot of people wouldn't be into him. And I'm surprised myself that I like this doll. But I just really do :P. And I figured out that he would fit so well into my current story line. So he's now on my list.

As far as the Mona doll I sort of like to look at her because the emotion is so strong. But I think a sad doll like that would make me sad to look at eventually. Even though I have a character I want to make who will have tears running down her face I feel like it's different because Mona looks like her heart is breaking into pieces not just that she's crying.

    2. omg I love her :D
There needs to be more sculpts like this, but with different facial features, as Mona's aren't quite my taste. I'd love to have a creepy crying clown girl from a Victorian circus!

    3. I don't think I'd want to own one, because the emotion is so extreme, so apparent. I think the faceup range is still decent, but what's sculpted is sculpted. I don't really know what I would do with one. I enjoy seeing pictures of them because it really is cool to see them in photoshoots, and seeing what people do with so much expression in a doll. They really are unique, and it's always interesting to see one released from a company.

    4. I really like Mona, if I wanted a girl I would seriously consider her. The only crying dolls I've ever seen were baby dolls.

    5. I don't think I could purchase one because it would limit what I could do with them.

    6. I am not a fan of extreme facial expressions in dolls I own, but I enjoy looking at photographs of certain dolls with very expressive faces--I think the difference is having to live with something every day versus opting to look at something every now and then. I like the freedom of interpreting a more neutral doll's "feelings" at any given moment.

That said, I actually really like the stock photos for Mona--she makes me laugh since she's so extreme. Though I'm sure she'd make me sad if I actually had to look at her for a long while. On the other end of the spectrum, dolls with large grins like Pipos Cheshire freak me out. I do not like them at all since I find their smiles unnerving.

    7. i dont like them all that often.. but i saw and fell in love with Mona.. shes so sad looking but so cute.. my biggest thing is how many pictures of her can you take without them all looking the same. my 2 dolls i have dont really have big smiles or anything so they can look different in pictures if you make them do different things.

my Boyfriend does not like them so much.. he didnt like Mona.. tho hes not into the dolls at all.. and thinks im crazy for spending so much money on them:P

    8. I usually prefer neutral-face dolls....but I love grinning ones! (And FL pongpongs, they make me so happy)

    9. I keep running into pictures of Mona and they get funnier every time. Am I a bad person for laughing? In my head she's having photographs taken of her while she's crying in different poses where you can clearly see her face, more like she's acting. I like to pretend she's hamming up an audition. "OH MY GOD WE'RE HAVING A FIRE sale." I wouldn't be able to have her as a doll unless I had a dropped ice cream cone as a prop though.

    10. I really agree that Mona is really a fascinating doll. Though I wouldn't own one personally, I have the feeling she's going to inspire some amazing shoots.

    11. I would own one if it suited the character. One of them in particular is always, ALWAYS so damn happy that it's scary. It would make sense for him to have a grinning face because when he's around his nemesis, he's so happy and excited that he's practically dancing on his toes, no matter the situation.
The amount of faces out there with extreme facial expressions feels very limited, I wish there were more.

    12. I'm not a big fan of sad dolls, and could never own one, but I am enchanted by fairyland's pong pong. She just looks so happy and rebellious! I just cannot. I love her. Pongs are easily my favorite extreme expressioned doll. :)

    13. I would like to take the time to say that I am a lying liar. Earlier I said I preferred dolls with more neutral expressions and while that is still true, I have recently become enamored of Unidoll's Ark. I'd seen him a few times and been weirded out a bit, but his face has grown on me and I really like him now. It's too bad the company's gone--I'll just have to keep my eye out for a secondhand one. I suppose I'm really more of a "it depends on the doll" person; I can't say I wouldn't ever buy a doll with an extreme facial expression (though I've yet to see a very happy sculpt that I'd like to own).

If you are, then we're both bad people since she still makes me laugh when I see her--she's too much!

    14. Actually, I didn't think I was a fan of the more emotional dolls until I got a Pongpong, and I have to say now, that I strongly recommend having at least one very happy faced doll...that little face can still make me laugh, and brighten my day. :)

I always wanted a Unoa Roar, (particularly this little scamp: https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5001/5358198002_b01fc51834_z.jpg )

and I don't know who this doll is, but I love her too:

As for sad or angry dolls....they can be beautiful to look at, but think I'd become frustrated with them before long. ><

    15. Whoa, that Unoa Roar scared me! I find many wide smiling dolls unsettling, but maybe I will fall in love with one someday. I've really enjoyed seeing a few more off the wall sculpts mentioned in this thread.

    16. The Unoa Roar isn't nearly as unsettling without eyelashes and with a different faceup.

    17. Nope not bad at all. Every time I see a pic of her I wonder who would buy this girl, she sort of makes me angry and I feel like telling her to stop her damn crying. I know different people like different sculpts, but I loathe her that much I have real trouble thinking anyone would buy her.

The little Imp guy posted in the OP, I hadn't seen him before, he made me smile. I imagine having someone like that around would pretty much guarantee giggles.

    18. Aw, I'm sorry to give you a fright! :sweat

The roar always reminds me of Sora's face from Kingdom Hearts, if you're familiar with it, when he said "CHEEEEEEESEEE!"

    19. Generally speaking, I don't want my dolls locked into any particular emotion. However, I love Pukipuki Pongpong. If I break down and get one though, I'm not sure if he would be a whole new character, or just a happier version of my Pukipuki Madeleine. They have pretty much the same eyebrows, so I think it could work.

    20. I have searched but didn't find a thread about it, so if there is an exciting one, please feel free to delete or merge mine.

I have seen ring doll Mona the crying doll for the first time on a photo then on YouTube, i think it's a piece of art the face expressions are amazing, but i'm not sure if i want to buy a crying doll, i mean looking at her will make me feel sad, but i adore how unique is this doll, so would you buy a crying doll and add it to your collection?
