Dolls with the same name as you.

Feb 23, 2016

    1. Hello! I was wondering about dolls with the same name as its owner. I don't know if there are threads about this topic, but I didn't saw anything like this, so...
I have some questions here for the ones that have a doll with the same name as them and for the ones that don't. I am curious of what will you answer ^^

For doll owners with a doll that has the same name as them
      * Is the doll a smaller version of yourself?
      * Why did you choose the same name for your doll?
      * How do you feel when talking about that doll?
      * Do people find weird when you talk to your doll using the same name as yours?
      * Is your doll exactly how you want to be?
      * Does your doll look like you?

For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
      * Would you find weird having that doll?
      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?

    2. I don't have any dolls with a name that matches mine, partly because my name's kind of boring, but also because it would feel off to me. I mean, maybe if I got a Dollpamm or something that's an adult body but waaay short I might. All the others are too tall. Besides, I tend to buy dolls because I like how they look and then come up with a character and name for them. I don't really use them for "shelling" or what have you.

    3. I've never seen a doll with my name, but then, I have one of those not-even-in-the-"Top 1000" names that apparently peaked in popularity in the 1920's in the US, so I haven't even met all that many people who share it.

That said, I do have one doll who was named by a friend... And he named it after himself. So, yeah. Fergus-the-Vampire-Shiwoo was named by Fergus-the-human. He usually calls the little guy "Junior".

    4. I never thought of giving a doll my name, or even any of my daughter's names, although there is a company name the same as one of my daughter's--Tessa. But I think calling a doll by my own name would be confusing.
I have considered naming dolls after my grandchildren but, the funny thing is, I already had a doll named Leon when my daughter named her son Leon! Whether I name any new dolls after my other grandchildren is still up in the air.
...Now that I think about it, I did name one of my child dolls Abigail, which is not my real name, but a kind of nickname that my Mom used to call me when I was very little.

    5. For doll owners with a doll that has the same name as them
      * Is the doll a smaller version of yourself? Absolutely! And her bunny friend, too ;) as I have pet bunnies. I recently got a dog, sooo... possible animal doll in the future. Maybe.
      * Why did you choose the same name for your doll? The resemblance between us is probably a bit uncanny, so she bears my middle name.
      * How do you feel when talking about that doll? A lot of people are pretty intrigued, but some are admittedly creeped out.
      * Do people find weird when you talk to your doll using the same name as yours? People find me weird in general, but not in a bad way. :)
      * Is your doll exactly how you want to be? Not at all!
      * Does your doll look like you? Yeppers!

      1. I'm not certain I would name my doll after myself, however, I have named sims after myself and my boyfriend and my dolls will be representatives of ourselves. I would consider it, but we have other names that are meaningful to both of us that I plan to use for my first dolls. Though they will not be named after us, they will be miniature versions of us.

      2. I wouldn't find that weird.

      3. Yes, the dolls will be smaller versions of ourselves, but with different, and equally meaningful names.

      4. Oh yes! I could definitely see myself doing that.

      Nice questions, mate.

      RH :-)

    7. I've never thought about naming a doll after myself. But if I happened to love a sculpt that shared my name, I'd buy it and keep the name. I wouldn't make it a doll of myself though.

Otherwise, if I had a doll with my name, it would have to be a little chibified version of me, like a doll for my other dolls. So I'd have my little dolls and they'd have their little me.

    8. I've never named a doll after myself, nor would I ever want to... and if I did, it would NOT be a smaller version of me!

There have been companies that had sculpt names or other names that were the same as mine... I didn't feel like buying for that reason, either.

      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
      No.

      * Would you find weird having that doll?
      Yes.

      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
      No.

      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
      No.

    10. I haven't found a doll with my name but I've found my name to be upping in popularity or at least the numbers are increasing with the amount of people that have my name or know someone with it that I come across.
I don't like my name. Never have and most likely never will. So no I won't name a doll after me.
But I do know of a doll that reminds me of how I wish I could be so I would name her after an alternate name I use a lot.
I dont think it would be any weirder having that doll than it is to write loosely about myself or my idea of how I wish I was.
She's def on my Wishlist and I think the personality would fit her perfectly.

    11. I think there might be a sculpt out there with the same name, and perhaps other people have used the same name for their dolls, but I don't imagine I'd ever have a doll that shared my name, nor one that looked like me. Part of the fun of BJD for me can be to name them, so I'd rather think of something else.

    12. I would never want a doll with my name or a Minimee of myself. That would just feel really weird to me. Some of my characters have similar personality traits or interests, but they aren't me. I mean, I already exist, I don't need another one! And I think it would feel weird, like a shrine to myself or something.

There are a couple of companies that make dolls with my name, Angel of Dream and Ringdoll being two I know of (though AoD shortens it), but there may be others. I wouldn't be opposed to sharing a sculpt name if I loved the sculpt, but I wouldn't keep it for the character.

    13. Rina, one of my incoming dolls has a part of my name.

      * Is the doll a smaller version of yourself?

Oh, Lordy no. She used to be, but I made her a more realistic character, and we became a lot more different.

      * Why did you choose the same name for your doll?

I've had her character since 2007, possibly even earlier, and she was my way I expressing myself. Without that character, I don't know where I'd be. She was originally named after me, then took on the name Rina, which is just part of my name, cause I thought it sounded better. I changed it to a couple variants: Rilana, Audrina--neither of which are my name. Then I scrapped the character, and didn't touch her story until last year. In that, she was nameless until she picked up the acronymic name "DI" for darkness incarnate, and eventually reclaimed her name, Rina.

      * How do you feel when talking about that doll?

She's so far from me that it's really no different than talking about other dolls, except for certain friends who've seen her prior incarnations... That gets awkward. She was in one bad fanfic once...

      * Do people find weird when you talk to your doll using the same name as yours?

Rina isn't a nickname I've ever used, so no..

      * Is your doll exactly how you want to be?

Oh gee. The character used to be. Six inches taller, but only about ten pounds heavier, two bra sizes away from me, with perfect skin and white-blond hair wit streaks and purple eyes. That was pretty much 2011-me's ideal self. She's changed a bit (not nearly as idealized) and I don't want to look like her anymore. I'm more of a green-eyed red head type (which is more feasible for me.)

      * Does your doll look like you?

She's way taller, way paler and a lot less human. I'm a short hazel eyed girl with dyed red hair. We make it work.

    14. I've only seen one other doll with my name and that's when I was looking at doll profiles here on DoA. I found it quite strange since my name is spelled quite differently and the doll's name had the same spelling.

For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
I don't think I would name my own dolls the same name as me because I usually make my dolls into my own characters. If I did have to name a doll after me, I would end up using my middle name instead.

      * Would you find weird having that doll?
I think it would be a little strange. It would sound like I'm talking about myself in the third person.

      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
I have planned a doll to be similar to me (personality wise and a few key facial features) but be in the opposite gender and have a different name.

      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
I don't think I would just because of the fact that I would just confuse myself and others if I called it by my name.

    15. Interesting topic! Here's my two cents!
For doll owners with a doll that has the same name as them

      * Is the doll a smaller version of yourself? No
      * Why did you choose the same name for your doll? I didn't choose the name, it's a Doll Chateau Debbie & I loved the photo, so I got her.
      * How do you feel when talking about that doll? Usually proud to own her and Bella.
      * Do people find weird when you talk to your doll using the same name as yours? Nope
      * Is your doll exactly how you want to be? A bit of eyeshadow too dark, but she's still lovely!
      * Does your doll look like you? Heck no! LOL

    16. Meadow Dolls just recently did a preorder on Patti - of course I have to have her as she is adorable, unlike me lol. I always feel a kindred spirit when I see a doll or person named Patti with the spelling of i....not Patty or Patricia

    17. I recently found a Doll mold with the same first-name as me! Though it isn't quite my style, she's far to long and thin for my tastes, I'd be really tempted to make a place for her in my home! The doll is Ivy by Serenade Doll.

Does anyone else feel tempted to own a doll with your name?

Naturally, if you rather not share which doll, you don't have too.

    18. Yes! I feel the same way. A boy from Ringdoll called Misha feels really tempting for me. He's cute, but not my style either, but maybe someday I'll bring him home.

    19. If there was a doll named Stacia I would be super excited and probably consider getting them. That would make my day.

    20. Yes it's Michelle and I know that loongsoul has a Michelle and she's really pretty! And so does 5stardoll
I really don't like my name but it's pretty cool to see Bjd sculpt with the same name :)
