Dolls without face-ups?

Nov 18, 2012

    1. I personally prefer my dolls face-upped but I don't think there's anything wrong with blank dolls. It just takes me a little longer to appreciate them.

    2. I think I probably love blank dolls because I get excited to see who they're gonna be. And professional faceups make me anxious that I'll ruin them. My pukies were precious blank- I've grown used to my blank Arin, I don't even think he needs colors anymore, and I stared at my Volks head blank for like a month before I even started her faceup. My Ante, however. Came out of the box and The sculpt just looks soooo different without a faceup I was nervous I'd gotten the wrong doll. She was still very pretty, just not the way I was used to seeing her. I guess I prefer to look at tinies blank, and Yo and bigger face upped. Then again, the faceless pictures are so rare I do almost always stop to admire :X

    3. I prefer face ups on my dolls, but I have seen some really beautiful photos with blank dolls. I think it's fun to see how many different emotions they can portray while blank by just adjusting the angle and lighting, and that can be a useful study for face-upped dolls too!

    4. I like the look of blank dolls. They look like beautiful Roman sculptures. In fact, I made it a point to not decide to save up for a doll until I found one that I would love with a face and without a face. I want to do the face-ups myself and it will probably take a while to get one on her, so I wanted to make sure that I would love that doll no matter how she looked.

    5. Personally, I am not a fan of completely barefaced dolls. Even with no products and no make up, a natural face still has different hues to it. I wouldn't personally keep a doll blank faced, but I can see the appeal of the natural look.

    6. I definitely love my dolls blank and even their face-ups in the end tend to be very minimalistic. In real life I don't wear makeup except for special occasions and I tend to find that same aesthetic appealing in my dolls. Not every sculpt looks good blank, though.

    7. I like dolls with and without face up.
Depending on the personality of the doll
      Here the destiny (fate)

I think everybody would see him as a different "person".
Therefore, i find him perfect without face.

    8. Wondering if there are people out there who keep their doll with no faceup, because they like it?

I have a white skin Fairyland multihead zefi......and I actually prefer her without a faceup. I love the way the sculpt looks au naturel.

Do you have a blank doll? Why?

    9. As for me, i haven't.
But i really like some dolls without a faceup, and want to have a couple - Fairyland minifee Lishe, and maybe Miyu. :)
Their sculpts are perfect for me...

    10. I have not, but it is true that some dolls are beautiful even without makeup ...
I always I hope nervous they to arrive to give them a face. I can not leave them blank ^^

    11. I've never seen a doll I'd rather have blank than with a good face-up. I mean, I like minimal face-ups, but not completely bare. They just always look so unfinished.

    12. To be honest I like all my dolls to have faceups; even my floating heads. If they don't have faceups I always feel as if some crucial part of them is missing and it saddens me... The good thing is I do most faceups by myself and with the help of my best friend so I usually don't have to depend on someone else to fill in the blank, so to speak. There's only one head still blank sitting around my house and that's the one of my penultimate grail doll, my IoS Chaos, and the only reason for that is because I always envisioned him having a faceup from a certain artist so he's been on the wait while I stalk that artist's slots.

I will agree that there are dolls that look absolutely gorgeous blank, however. I bought my IoS Sezz because of his blank face (I didn't like him faceuped in most ways I had seen) and my Switch Seoha has the most perfect face ever in my opinion, faceup or not -I still think he looks even more perfect faceuped though.

    13. I've had a few heads that were blank for months and I loved them the way they were... I always loved them better thought, once I gave them a face-up or had them face-upped.
Mind you, I prefer very decend face-ups, so the difference was very little with some than others. It was however the 'finishing' touch.

    14. I currently have a doll without a faceup since February when she arrived. I plan on doing the faceup myself but I haven't had the time and when I do have the time the weather stinks. So, she sits around unfinished. She's so darn cute even without a faceup that I don't mind so much. The fact that she has no face up doesn't keep me from playing with her at all. Sometimes, I feel as if I have neglected her but I don't give her as much attention as my other dolls.

    15. I've had my Delf Dambi for years now and never had anything on his face but a little lip blush and penciled on eyebrows. I can't bear the thought of getting a faceup that would change the sweet expression of his face.

    16. I don't & think I will always want my dolls to have faceups ;)

    17. I admire my dolls blank, and when I give them face-ups, sometimes I wonder if I'm not doing the sculpt an injustice (... I'm not a professional :p). But without a face-up, the doll is "only" a beautiful sculpt and not my character. Since I started buying dolls in order to have 3D versions of my beloved characters, there is little point in keeping them blank.

Also, a good face-up may bring out qualities and features in a sculpt that you would not have noticed without the paint/blush. That is exciting too...

    18. I have some that are blank, but it's less because I like them that way and more because I'm still undecided on the best way to paint them (even though I know nothing is permanent and I can always redo it). The ones that are shells for characters have been pretty easy, since I already have the image of them, but my fantasy set has no specific direction yet and trying to settle on one has left them blank for a long time.

    19. I have a blank pipos that I'm still deciding on how to do the face-up.

    20. I currently have two dolls that are completely blank, and have been so for some time. One is going to be a major project and it took me a long time to pin down what I wanted to do for her, but I have yet to start. The other, I had always intended to paint...but I find I'm growing strangely attached to her blank. She is a robot, so there is really no reason she needs a "human" styled face anyway. ^_~
