Dolls without face-ups?

Nov 18, 2012

    1. I have one doll that is blank (she is off topic though), who I call my little Alien baby. It suits her more than what a face up would I find so I'm happy to leave her blank.
My Katie was blank for quite a while before I plucked up the courage to do her face up. She was still very expressive without one, but even more so now, and she will still end up with other face ups as I improve with face ups, but for now, I'm happy with the way she looks

    2. I think it depends on the sculpt too but dolls with even light faceup look better than blank imo. :kitty2

    3. A few of my dolls are still currently blank faced and I've found it kind of interesting getting to know them bare bones as it were but I wouldn't want to keep them that way I don't think. How much personality they have even sans makeup really surprises me though.

    4. I don't perticularly like blank dolls, they make me feel a bit uneasy. If I ever get a blank doll I will get him/her a faceup as quickly as possible :).

    5. Mhm, blank doll don't attract me so much >__< and I love to use color, a blank face is just another excuse to use my tools *_____*♥

    6. It will probably depend on the sculpt... all the dolls I have and had looked terrible without a face-up, they seemed to lack a face for my perception and like Buzzingbumblebee I hastened to give them one (or keept them in their box until I managed to do their face-ups). Something I feel uneasy even with eyes without eyelashes...

    7. I don't prefer blank dolls over ones with faceups, but I know seeing them one way or another has swayed my opinions on them. I remember seeing a few dolls blank and thinking "Eh, I really don't like the sculpt," but then I saw them with a faceup, and I fell in love! Same has happened the other way around.

I personally wouldn't want to keep a doll blank forever though. Temporarily is fine, like my DC Agatha that's coming will be blank...but she'll eventually get a faceup. I just think they're more "finished" and more real to me with faceups. :)

    8. I've never cared for blank dolls but a few months ago I got a PIPOS Rosie who I planned to have a custom faceup done for and when she arrived I fell in love with her just blank. Didn't stop me from getting the faceup I planned anyway but I don't think I would have minded had she stayed blank either.

    9. I think it's better for a doll to have a blank face than an untidy or unsuitable faceup. Happily I love all molds that I own both blank and painted.

    10. I have a few due to the fact that I can't do a face up till the weather gets warmer -in about 9 months, sigh. However, one of them looks so good without one. He looks so much less grumpy than what I've seen with the company face ups, lol.

    11. I don't really like blank dolls, but that's because I can't entirely envision my dolls as the characters they represent without a face-up.

    12. A friend of mine owns a couple dolls devoid of makeup, and honestly, I still think they look awesome. Personally I don't own any and never plan to, since I always paint my dolls when I get them. I do, however, like blank dolls with the right wig and clothes, especially if the doll has alot of detail around their eyes and mouths. I also agree that there are some dolls I prefer without makeup. Funny how dolls can be.

    13. I currently have three without faceups, two having never been painted at all, the third being a faceplate having gone through at least six faceups and not having liked a single one of them I prefer him blank

    14. While I don't own any dolls without face-ups myself (I adore company default face-ups and all my dolls have them), but I do adore seeing photos of blank dolls. The idea of owning a blank doll is fascinating as well - I can see the idea working really well for a gargoyle or statue character, or maybe a golem or an automaton of some sort :)

    15. I have to disagree, I really think a face up makes the doll really special and individual, and if I had a blank face doll it would just annoy me that they didn't have a face up

    16. I actually use the blank photo of the doll to figure out if I'll like him/her enough to buy. I find it really difficult to tell if I like a sculpt when it's painted or if I'm just in love with an amazing faceup.

Jono didn't have a faceup for at least a month. It took me a while to finish all his scar mods. I actually thought he was really beautiful blank.

    17. I personally dont have any dolls without faceups, but I recently saw a DC douglas without a faceup and he was such a cutie! My Douglas has a faceup, and I love him just as much, but he looked SO cute without a faceup, so I believe that there are some sculpts out there that can look great without faceups

    18. It depends on the doll. I tend to like dolls to have just enough color to make them look alive, but I dislike overly made up faces.

    19. If the sculpt is beautiful, it can look very nice even without a face-up. I like the more realistic quality that face-ups add to them though. While many dolls look nice blank, I think the face-ups make them a little prettier.

    20. I think some dolls look absolutely beautiful without face-ups but I just don't consider my guys complete until they have one.
