Dolls You Love But Will Never Own

Feb 16, 2023

    1. Doll Chateau Cecile. With that sculpt being discontinued recently, I had to make up my mind sooner than I thought I'd have to. As much as I love that sculpt, I just don't think I could own a Doll Chateau doll. I'd be too afraid of breaking some spindly part that I'd never touch it!
Otherwise, vinyl bjds in general. I've flip-flopped my opinion of them over the years, but ultimately more than anything, I don't think I could put up with the unique issues that vinyl brings to the table. I much prefer solid, reliable resin.

    2. This is me exactly. I absolutely love the anime look of the Volks Dollfie Dreams and the Smart Dolls, but I just don’t want to deal with vinyl. I’m so in love with my nice sturdy resin!;)

    3. If you’re willing to make the neck hole larger and find a washer for the S-hook you can get the best of both worlds with a hybrid! Mika here is a vinyl Dollce head on a SD10 body.

    4. I love other people’s anime-style dolls and enjoy the aesthetic but don’t think I would own one myself.

    5. Honestly had to put some thought into how I'd answer this. And then, BAM! it hit me last night before falling asleep last night.

A beauty in resin form with joints that captivates my fascination, but not enough to compel me to lay down funds to make the purchase? Those 30-32cm Granado boys. Abel in particular has such a handsome face, and Ninth was first of the line that caught my eye. Why I will enjoy them from afar? That scale is too small for my tastes, and also too reminiscent of action figures in appearance/scale. I got back into bjds due to how different they were in size and appearance from other popular dolls/figures that are out there on the market, so that factor would likely lead me not to enjoy them in-person near as much as I do in pictures.

This other one is kind of nebulous, as—if given the opportunity to acquire one under the right circumstances—I would indeed be happy to get them. This would be Batchix's Dark Elf. I fell in love with his facial features oh so many years ago, but never got the opportunity to acquire one when they were still available. I'm not sure if Batchix still makes bjds, but their dolls do tend to be kind of rare on the secondhand market. So, due to this factor....I'll likely only be able to enjoy them from afar.

    6. For me pretty much anything that demands body blushing to look its best so that includes almost all anthro, animal, mechanical, demonic, or just plain weird dolls no matter how wonderful they look. The reason is that my hands sweat a lot which in turn would cause damage to the blushing.

I also echo the impracticality of housing the really big dolls for me. I just admire everyone else’s instead.

    7. Any USD~MSD-sized dolls. They look cute and small, a nice size for a travel buddy. But I can't seem to get attached to small-sized dolls for some reason. They are too tiny to grab(?). I love the big dolls ranging from 75cm~80cm despite their weight and price.:wiggle

    8. Anything above MSD-sized dolls. I don't have the space for them and I'm not comfortable while holding them or posing them, so they're definitely not for me. Despite that, I like to look at them because they're usually more mature than smaller dolls.

    9. Cecile is on my 'what's stopping me? List' , too. She's ethereal. Also Twinkle... They're both so different to my current collection, I wonder if they'd fit in with the crew.... :)

    10. Probably an Obitsu Otohime... They're 80cm child proportioned dolls. I have no clue where I'd put one!

    11. Doll Chateau Christina. Not only is she discontinued, but I don't want an SD right now, SD are just too big for me! Still, I fell in love with her and she is one of my favorite sculpts.

    12. Soom Idealian75 Hades Allegro.
He’s the spitting image of an OC I’m super fond of, but I’ve learned SDs are just a bit too large for me. :sweat

    13. The first BJD I fell in love with I will never own unfortunately, that’s Volks Suigintou. She is what got me into the hobby. I love the anime/manga and I found her by chance, but she was so expensive I couldn’t get her back then. And now, I think she’s probably tripled in price. She will always be my elusive, impossible, forever grail.

    15. More of a "will never own again" but for me it's big Iplehouse girls. I've bought and ended up selling 3 over the years (2 SID, one EID). They are beautiful, and I loved them and they were perfect for their characters but they are just too big and bulky for me in person. I had a grey Luna, a light brown Rexy, and a light brown Yur.

I think more generally anything over 1/4 size, but those girls are the ones I really miss. I know why I didn't keep them, but they were really lovely!!

I do still have one 1/3 scale doll, but his character is one of the most important to me and it also helps that he has near zero resale value (lol) since his body has been modified so much and his head wasn't a popular sculpt.

    16. Dollstown bodies, specifically their 18y bodies. I adore the way they look, but I've tried time and again to get into SDs and they are just too heavy and unwieldly for me to easily pose or do anything with. So I have accepted these are just dolls I enjoy more through owner pictures lol

    17. This is what I fear would happen to me. I absolutely love some of the Impldoll girls, especially Eudora and Darlene, but I just can't picture what I'd do with a 65cm doll. I have one 70cm Ringdoll boy, and he just kinda sits there, but I can't bring myself to sell him.

    18. Fell madly in love with Dollmore's Trinity Doll Small Orgel Eugenia ( small being a total joke here as this 'little' darling is massive ... standing at 110 cm tall). Her outfit is just to die for the most beautifully perfect costume and dashing tipped hat. Trouble is for all that height the price is that of a small car! I cry in my sleep about this!!!!!

Then you have the face up and God alone knows what the postage nowadays to get her to you would cost!

    19. I fell in love with a idelian doll at first sight, but it would have been so much easier to buy props and to make dioramas if they have 60-65cm, so I totally get your point!

    20. I loved Iplehouse's EID Leon, but unfortunately I arrived too late to buy him and now the character that I wanted him to be is on another doll... :atremblin
