    1. Let's see...
Taejun was about $620, Asriel was $335 or so, and Rory was like $145. So on dolls alone, I've spent over $1000. I have easily spent $250-$300 on their clothes. *_*

    2. Dang I didn't know Taejun was that much! D: Jeez! He stands so pretty though.

    3. Yeah, with faceup and shipping costs he was a pretty expensive bugger. :sweat And for my first doll too! My mom thought I was insane!

    4. Eeep. I've spent $3000 at Luts alone x.x

    5. I'm new to the hobby. So far, including clothes and my one MSD, it's only been $295 dollars.

    6. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together? (estimate to where you are comfortable or simply do not answer this question at all)

For the dolls alone, I've spent around $7500 (for 33 complete dolls and 9 floating heads). I pretty much make everything I can, so the only things I really buy are eyes. Including eyes and some other random purchases, I think I've only spent about $500 on things other than the dolls themselves.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I had a feeling it was in that area. I don't tend to dwell on it, since seeing those numbers kind of sucks the fun out of the hobby :sweat.

The amount just seems so excessive..it makes me think that I should have been a bit more judicial about my choices. I spent a lot more at the beginning than I do now, and I definitely wouldn't have made all of the same choices this time around.

In actuality though, just about all of that money was already 'doll related' or 'old collection' money, so I don't mind that much. It makes me feel a lot better to think of it that way .

    7. I estimated at $2,077 Not all at once though.

It is a bit more than I would have thought I'd spend when I got into this. I'm pretty much done though, just a couple more body parts, I think... heh...hmm.

Do I regret it? No. I like makeing things for them & I like having them around.

    8. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together? (estimate to where you are comfortable or simply do not answer this question at all)

According to my calculations, I've spent roughly $950 on this hobby already, and I haven't been doing it for even half a year. :sweat This is including dolls, clothes, accessories, face-up supplies... the whole deal haha.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I haven't, and not gonna lie - I'm a bit surprised; I never knew I even HAD this much money! But it doesn't sadden me too much because whatever else I would have spent it on wouldn't have brought me in to such a creative and fun hobby. And I'm a money hoarder, so it probably wouldn't have been spent anyway!

    9. I know with myself it's up near $4k. My 8 dolls alone near the $3k mark and I know I've bought tons of shoes, material, outfits, wigs, little toys, beds, just everything. I know I'm spending a bit on it, but I'm not going to stop. I feel this is an adult hobby and adult hobbies are never cheap.

    10. As of right now it's under 300, and even when I planned out how much my wishlist will be, including shipping but not wigs, it will be under $2k, which I feel comfortable with, and as it is something that I love very dearly it will not seem painful at all. :)

    11. So far, about $280 USD, but that is my first doll with a set of clothes / boots / wig from Bobobie, some undies from Dollmore, and a couple of cheap eBay purchases.

I got $118 USD sitting in my paypal account, and I am tempted by that black and red cage seat ($44) for MSDs at Dollmore, which I can easily afford. Add another $6 (easy to do with some tights or something) to that order and I get a free pair of eyes - so tempting...

      Phil.

Addendum: I forgot to add about $35 worth of sewing and jewellery making stuff I bought in town (actually £20 but it works out about $35 USD).

    12. I love financial questions XD ! I think I find going over my past and future expenditures bizarrely soothing in a way. Strangely, I despise math classes more than any other type, and promised myself to avoid any money- or numbers-based employance in my life XD .

How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?

      MSD Doll (blank) - $290
      4 Pairs of Shoes - $48
      Eyes - $20
      Wig - $25
      Hanbok Outfit - $88
      Kimono Outfit - $22
      Testors Dullcote - $4?
      2 Rustoleum Cans - $8?
      Accessories/Miscellaneous - $24
      Shipping - $65
      TOTAL: $585ish (almost $600)

My parents bought a DollHeart outfit ($85) and a Fukubukuro ($45?) as well, equating to about $125 more, but I didn't spend that. Oh, and there are couple other small things like... a toothbrush, some cheap Walmart watercolors and plastic palettes, a white brush, a few hairpin things, etc.. So I would say just round up the previous total to $600 should do it.

I do have a lot of 'faceup supplies'... pricey acrylic model paints, some nice brushes, pastels, etc.. But I didn't buy those for faceup purposes, and they're artsy, so I don't really consider them as part of my doll budget'. I have a couple sewing things, like a book, I bought specifically to attempt doll clothes too, but I also don't consider those as a 'doll expense', but more as a 'self-bettering expense'. Learning to sew isn't 'wasted money', nor are art supplies. So I don't need to worry about/feel guilty for such purchases =D . [/the way my brain works]

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I do realize, because I've been keeping careful, careful track of it. I've got a special spreadsheet for doll budgeting and purchases. I feel sort of like dolls are a 'guilty pleasure' and that I should really watch how I spend on it. I really like to spread myself out already, in lots of hobbies, I can't just drop a bunch on dolls without thinking ^^; .

Besides, I do have other dolls planned out! I want 5 in total, in fact! A lot of which will wind up being limiteds because I want the other resin tone options (which are only in limiteds, in the company I'm looking at) . I have to keep them in mind too, so that I'll have money to spend on their own clothes and accessories. I'm not sure how much I really want to designate to spending on each doll though. Obviously over $500. I like round, pretty numbers, so maybe a $1000 budget cap per doll? That would end with $5,000 on doll stuff ^^; . Good thing I'll spread them all out!

So I just wanted to know how other people viewed the hobby after seeing how much money they'd spent. Does it feel wasted? Or do you regret nothing? Or are your feelings somewhere in between?

Being the miser that I am (I'd like to blame some of this on my parents, but they can't take all the credit... I remember being super-cheap when playing The Sims as a kid, even with the unlimited money cheat [/fail] ) , I do regret some of it. I regret the hair pins and bows. A couple small things I bought at the Marketplace. I sort of regret the ridiculous $50 shipping I paid for the doll, but I wanted my first one in time for Christmas, and GOs for the company I was buying from weren't exactly common.

But so far, the bulk of the money I've spent I don't feel bad about. I made sure to know exactly what I going in for financially when I bought every doll-related item. That I still end up with a couple things I regret just reflects my stingy, crazy personality =P . Especially when it comes to the actual doll... as an artsy type, I know she can be a great gateway to lots of fun opportunities that would otherwise seems so unaccessible to me. I would never seriously consider trying sewing before... or jewelry-making, messing with wigs, faceups or painted full-body tattoos, etc.. If I don't take advantage of all that she has to offer me, that's my own fault. She is worth every penny if I do, but wasted junk if I don't just like anything else I'll buy =P .

I think I would start regretting if I kept spending money though. I just don't like to spend money, in general. I'll find a way to feel bad about it if I keep burying myself, even if I really enjoy what I buy.

    13. With all the dolls I've owned (not counting eyes, wigs, clothes, etc) I've had about $4500 invested into the hobby - at least. ^^; It's an awful big number, and I certainly didn't spend it all at once. I think the most I've had invested at any one point was $1300ish in dolls alone.

.. okay so yeah, it's a lot of money. I know I spend a lot. A year or so ago I remember tallying it up and it was about $3000 so I'm not surprised it's just been accumulating while I do more and more business here.

    14. My SD boy was a Christmas present so I technically didn't spend money on him, but I know he was close to $700 with everything... My Yo-SD boy, who I'm still paying off my mom for, was $310. So, pretty much $1000.... Though I have no more start up help now so I'm getting a job to be able to buy more doll stuff (is 16)

    15. I did this once adding up how much I had spent on comic books... the sum was alarming, did I stop buying comics? no. I had spent several thousand just on comics in a year.

I have not counted up how much I spend on Dolls as I buy very few things for myself, I don't buy booze, ciggerettes, clothes, shoes, sweets or even comics for myself anymore... cannot afford it.
my only treats are that I allow myself to buy a doll when I have enough free money to do so, or tattoos or body mods, I buy for permanence.
calculation goes into paying the rent everyweek, if I have enough for food and travel everything else is mine to throw away however I please....and I choose resin beasts that I shall keep forever

    16. I would need to hire the late Carl Sagan to say just how much I have spent on dolls and shoes and eyeballs and hair and ittybitty bondage-pants.

      Biiiiiillllllllllyuns and biiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllyuns....

    17. When we are factoring in ittybitty bondage-pants as their own category, that's when we know are are in the 'billyuns' xDD

I myself can't sit there and do that math. Not because I'm ghastly afraid of what that number might be, but rather...I can't possibly fathom remembering every single purchase I've made in this hobby. Just the other day I was in WalMart's toy section looking at and throwing in a pack of tiny toys for my own little doll at home to 'play' [while I take pictures] with. The things I buy. If I had to give a rough estimate though, for what I spent on the dolls themselves, w/o shipping, wigs, subsequent faceups...

I'm looking in the $5300 range.

Which isn't that bad...[even though most of mine don't have bodies]

Well worth it though, I love my darlings, and as long as I'm not living in my car, eating out of a dumpster I'm fine with the cash I spend.

    18. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?
Since I bought my first doll, I estimate between $2500-$3000, that's excluding all I've paid for shipping which I don't want to think about.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?
I had a vague idea. I don't regret spending all the money, though I should really slow down:sweat. It is kind of a shock that I could afford all of that and pay my bills.
What else would I have spent that on? Clothes? Another purse? No thank-you I'll keep my dolls who make me happy.

    19. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?

Right now? I've spent 360$ for one doll, but I plan on having 10 so~

      Anthony- 240$
      Shuk-Shuk- 240$
      Blanc- 250$
      Victory Candescence- 250$
      Taylor- 138$
      Ritsui- 260$
      Canary- 220$
      Gaara- 343$
      Lucas- 195$
      Eyolf- 525$

      Combined with the 360$ I've already paid~

      ... 3021$ hmmmm....

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I knew it was going to be an expensive hobby before I got into it.
      And I just think about it like this: with all the money I save not smoking or drinking, in my lifetime I would have enough for hundreds of dolls!! ... I wouldn't buy that many, but, ya know ^^;

    20. Hmm... I try -not- to think about it, but that's a neat question.
      Pipos Bao - $290
      Soom Amber - $927
      Soom Yrie - $355
      Soom Ai - $374

Plus all the money I spend on nice fabric to to their costumes, the ever growing cost of my face-up supply drawer.. I think around $2500 so far, with dolls plus costume and make-up stuff.

And actually.. XD Now that I really look at it? I'm shocked, but I'm shocked a different way, I thought it would be allot more by now! I fell in love with my first doll, my Bao (who is still without a proper name after two years) at a convention. I was walking by a table and saw her and said.. O.O May I please hold her? I found myself unable to put her back down, and I've adored her ever since.

My Amber followed, and a small string of Sooms, which might be exspanding with Chalco just released. I find, while I've never been someong to go out to a bar and hang around, my at home hobbies were more like part time jobs. I do ALLOT of costume sewing and prop making and such. And while I love it, at times things aren't very fun to do for hours after work.

I found that with this hobby, I can look forward to making them little outfits and I've fallen in love with doing face ups, because the results for me are almost instant. Rather then working months on something I work hours or days or at most a week, and when it's done I get to see the results every time I play with my dolls. So for me, $2500 or double that or triple in another few years, it really isn't going to be a problem for me. They've really brought an immesurable amount of joy.
