    1. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?

So far: $648, for my beautiful Dollmore LE, some clothes for her to wear and other little things. For about a year and half, I saved everything I could because I planned to buy one of these :doh

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

Absolutely :) After being in the mindset of saving for a single $2000+ nude doll, everything I have now seems like a steal. However, I do remember being a bit shocked at the prices of dolls and doll clothes when I first started looking at them.

    2. Maybe I find crunching numbers soothing in a way =P . Or reassuring or something. I don't really record most of my other types of purchases so closely, but I have a pretty good memory when it comes to money, and I don't spend that often; I'll keep track of what I've spent, in general, for at least a few months. And any money owed by me or to me I'll remember for at least a year.

I guess with most other non-doll purchases though, I don't worry as much about 'overspending' on them. It was 'guilt-free' money. For example, the past few months... I spent a few hundred dollars on Christmas gifts, around $500 on school textbooks, and a bit on food. I don't worry about overspending on gifts due to the nature of the purchase, and since I typically only buy stuff for immediate family and only on special occasions. School textbooks are obviously necessary and are good for that whole 'self-betterment' thing XD . And my parents nag that I don't spend enough to feed myself anyway.

But with dolls, it's different! Essentially very much a useless item, along with its accessories. Very expensive, and very easy to go overboard or lose sense of the reality of the money being spent. I wanted to budget tightly how much I'd spend on this hobby from the start, so I've had spreadsheets for dolls since way before I even got any; budgeting how much I should spend on each doll, if I should buy clothes or shoes, etc.. I mean, if I didn't keep track, I'd have probably already hit $750-$1,000 by now, and I did NOT sign up for that X_x . Not yet, anyway! I've got my money planned for other dolls! And for, I dunno', a nice computer or top-end art supplies, I could do with some of those! XD

      <3 ali

    3. Once i actually HAVE a job, I will be getting two large dolls :D I've already added it up, and without shipping it's around $600 (I'm making their clothes so I don't have to spend money on them...but there's always pants and stuff I CAN'T make...). Of course, I'm getting the pretty wigs and heads > 3>; I have no doubt I will spend well over $3000 on this new hobby. But it's all right because I don't really have any other expensive hobbies. I'm so excited right now because I'm almost done assembling my first Dollfie (eyes are comin' in the mail. They should be here either Friday or a few days after). I'm so excited for Middie to actually be finished xD She's been a WIP for around a year D: But I (oops, I mean my parents) have probably spent around $50 for her. I really can't wait to get more dolls! :whee:

    4. I don't remember the exact price for getting Dess - maybe around $285 with shipping? But I do keep tables of the exact prices for all the future dolls I have planned. I like knowing EXACTLY how much a doll is going to cost, with all of the other things, like eyes, wigs, and shippeng. I get disappointed when companies don't automatically list shipping. :sweat I'm kind of weird that way.

    5. I don't have a doll yet, but I've done the math for getting my first doll plus accessories for it and shipping. It's about $500 and that's if I go with the less expensive clothes and shoes for her.

I know this hobby is going to be expensive and my boyfriend constantly asks me if I'm sure I really want to spend that much on what, to him, is a glorified Barbie, but I love looking at all the different pictures of peoples dolls and I love the idea of being able to do so many different characters with just one doll. I'm sure I'll regret it at first and wonder if spending that much money was a good idea, but I know that once my doll arrives I'll stop worrying.

    6. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?
My total... $732 (This number is after subtracting the amount of money I made back from selling no longer wanted bjd things)

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?
I'm surprised - pleasantly surprised, actually! I thought it would be more.

However, that number is a little misleading. The only reason it's that low is because I recently sold almost all of my doll's clothing... and I sold them so that I could buy more clothing so... :sweat :sweat that number is going to rise...

I liked adding all this up. It made me realize that I was keeping a few wigs, eyes, and maybe one pair of shoes that I have no use for. Time for another purge.

    7. well today i just bought my third doll. and i got my first one in Nov. 2009 lol. so that would bring a total to somewhere to about $667. And thats just a guesstimation lol, i couldnt remember if some of that included shipping or not.

it kinda surprises me at how much ive spent already. I'm extremely new to this hobby and dont come from money by any means and now already have 3 lovely dollies. I havent spent any money on clothes, wigs, eyes, faceups or anything yet since my dolls have been included with that and been given extras as two of my lovelies are second hand from the MP. I know that i'll eventually spend oodles on them for all of that eventually.
And that amazes me at how much this hobby actually costs.

    8. I'd say on the dolls and clothes I still currently have, around three thousand dollars.

I love them so much though. :)

    9. Hmm, well I recently ordered my first doll, A DoD Homme Ducan. With all his accesories he came to 740? Something like that? Then I got an Obitsu Gretel head for 20, a TON of faceup materials, but a lot of them were for Christmas so maybe 40 on that? Then a wig for her that was only 6 bucks... Then 205 for my Puki Pipi (red bell fullset, secondhand with lots of other extras). So over a thou and I still don't even have my ducan yet, lol.

      Wowie.

    10. Personally, after saving up for my first doll I doubt I'm going to want to keep track of how much I spend after that. Let alone allow my parents to see the budget book on that event. o u o;

    11. Oh, god, my parents would kill me if they knew about my hobby. I'm well out of the nest - haven't lived with them in over five years - but if they knew where my whole pay check was going, I'd be skinned. I've only been in the hobby about a year now and already with my Iple man, DOI, and Soom MDs, I'm about at $3500, and that's just in resin. ><* However, I'm completely in love with the hobby, and I will continue to eat nothing but ramen for the rest of my life to keep up the habit. ^^* Hopefully, I'll marry rich soon! lol

    12. ECK!

How much money have you spent on BJDs all together? (estimate to where you are comfortable or simply do not answer this question at all) With everything probably around $15,000 maybe more.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

Yeah I do realize that but I had 150+ Barbies growing up. I was an only child for a long time and they really kept me entertained. I love my hobby. I obviously haven't didn't purchase everything all at one time (but I have only been in the hobby for about a year). I don't mind spending the money because it truly makes me happy. I don't have many friends that live close so this occupies my time. I doubt I will ever have kids so this really keeps me satisfied. My only regret was not getting in the hobby earlier.

    13. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together? (estimate to where you are comfortable or simply do not answer this question at all)
Maybe $$3-4k including dolls themselves, MSC, and all the materials I bought or used for them (this includes fabrics, accessories, leather, hair&yarn, paints, brushes, glues, Apoxie and other stuff). I bought my 1st doll in the early 2009 so I'm in the hobby during ~1.5 years. Now I have 3, wait for 4th and make 5th.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?
Actually yes. I keep a special file where I write down ALL my expenses, BJD ones are marked with a certain color. So I could easily tell the exact sum but I'm too lazy to count. Anyway, as I make all the dollie stuff by myself, it's much less than the amount other people would spend per doll for similar quality items (taking into account all the extensive wardrobe my dolls have). No need to say that all pieces are unique))
I do not regret any of BJD purchases because all that money are spare actually. I may regret only the purchases that were unsuccessful (poor materials or so) but there were only few of these cases. But I feel the same for any unsuccessful purchase.

    14. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?

"A lot." I could go through and check it all, since I don't know off the top of my head, but the answer is, indeed, "a lot". Quite possibly "one heck of a lot". What's an enormous sum to me might not be to someone else, but it's not a small number -- enough for a decent new car, or a downpayment on a house for certain.

What balances this, for me, to some extent, is that I work from home. I am a workaholic, but I can get distracted and lose momentum, sometimes for months at a time, being the poster child for ADD when it comes right down to it. Most art jobs don't take to loss of momentum well; you need to keep at it constantly to get anywhere, but I have 'now it's time to go chase something shiny!' syndrome. (I'm worse than a cat that way, seriously.) Having dolls I want keeps me focused on the steadiness of work, which is actually pretty helpful for me.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I would guess my wig collection is roughly on par, cost-wise, with a fullset SoomMD with sanding at this point, so I am not even going to try here. ;) Clothes, I've spent a bit less on since arguably I'm going to make some. There are also some things I had to start with, and random lucky finds from various places that are a help in keeping the numbers down, miraculously enough.

    15. I`m totally new in this hobby, less than 3 months. But I`ve already spent over 2000$ on my two dolls...It`s really big sum, but all hobbies are not cheap! Pleasure is always expensive.
I intend to make by myself for dolls as much as possible: sewing, knitting, , sanding, painting... But there are some things which I can`t do properly: making wigs and shoes. So I will buy them.

    16. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?

      I'm rounding here:

$600 for my first doll shipped w/ wig
      $20 for fabric (so far)
      $20 for new boots
$10-20 for new eyes (not purchased yet)
$10 for wig cap (not purchased yet)
$10-20 for magic eraser + silicon ear plugs (not purchased yet)

So roughly... $700? However, it's my first doll.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?

I actually expected it to be a lot more. Closer to $1000.However, it's still a TON of money.

    17. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?
      $1,000ish ...so far.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?
Quite honestly I try not to think too hard about it. Money makes me stress, but bjds make me happy. I normally consider each of my dolls (not their items) individually in terms of general dollar worth. Granted they're worth more to me than that. Lumping them all together into a lump sum hurts my brain, so I don't do it. Especially when I consider how much I'll be spending in the future on other dolls I want.

    18. I know exactly how much I've spent, since I've had to penny pinch religiously to get exactly what I want. Though this is not just with my dolls, it's with everything I have. So far this is the list:
$310- on my AS Cain Allen (who is on his way)
$80- on supplies at hobby lobby (Brushes, paints, pastels, and I also got a easel, watercolor paper, and some canvas ^_^ in the same set)
      $6 shipping for a donated outfit ^_^

I still need a new wig, a new outfit, eyelashes, MSC (uv and non), string, Mr.Clean magic eraser, sand paper and brush cleaner to do all I want with him.

I also really want a Kimono for him. I'd say this will all cost me about another $100 or more, but I'm prepared for this.

    19. My spendings so-far:

      AoD Gu - £120
      AR GitD - £110
      BBB Sprite - £50
DZ Mo - £120 (And he's for sale again now, so I might make that back)
      AoD Gu girl - £60
      Lati Lily - £90
      Hujoo Wings - £20
      TOTAL = £470 (About $750)

I've made all my own clothes for them, and tend to trade sewing and baking for wigs and eyes. I buy paint and pastels for other projects, so the cost is pretty much absorbed into my other hobbies.

    20. How much money have you spent on BJDs all together?
gawd no clue, i stopped doing the math after i had added up my puki box alone. XD which had hit a few thousand. and that was a while ago. and i've added more puki stuff, plus tons more dolls. XD. i'm like now totally afraid to do the math. i just stopped after the puki box. i don't even want to add the biggies. and i think then i had 15 dolls. now i'm about 25. plus parts. and this is just the resin. not anything else. cause the others i don't have much of a clue how much i spent.

Did you realize until now how much, in total, you have spent on this hobby?
still got a pretty vague idea. and it's bad oh so bad. XD i'm slowing down a bit on my spending. only cause i want to save for bodies and things. and for a house down payment. and a huge salt water tank with sharks. but i'm sure eventually the number will grow to a size that i won't want to tell anyone but the insurance people. XD
