1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. about the whole taking action against dz i think i read somewhere that they were going after this other company that was mega copying... we don't have a name so we don't really know... wouldn't it be something if all this debate were over nothing...

    2. Well, Volks posted the notice about copying on their site VERY soon after someone sent a letter to them, telling them about the new DZ boy with comparison pictures.

So, I think it's very safe to say it's DZ. If it were another company, I think we'd be talking about them as well.

    3. About before, me saying I don't understand. It is not a flame thing, and I am not starting. I am saying truth. It is like someone who speaks English not understanding French, or someone who does not know calculus understanding it.
I do not understand how people do not see difference. I am not being snide, or snark, or any of these things: I am telling truth.

    4. i agree, and i think the problem is that not one of us is coming into this situation objectively. what is needed is a third party without emotional commitment and i don't believe such is to be found anywhere in the doll community, let alone within these boards.

    5. I think a lot of people have been objective. I, for one, am not on either side at all. I simply say rip-offs are wrong, not pertaining to Dollzone imparticular, just to that personal belief. I certainly hope I have not come off as being on one side or the other strongly, and I hope I haven't offended anyone. And there are others even less emotionally attached/offensive than me. I think the biggest problem is so many people trying to change others' opinions without solid proof, and any 'hazing' towards DZ owners.

      Sorry, this is kind of OT, but I don't think it's fair to say no one has been objective ^^;

    6. i am saying that it is not possible for people to be objective. to be human is to be subjective; we each have our own individual points of view. i for one am not gazing down from some omnescient mountaintop, able to weigh everything equally, because i am an ordinary human being. this is not an insult. and i don't believe anyone is any more or less objective than anyone else. we can't help it; we're human.

    7. Ok, maybe I'm thinking more of bias. I don't care much for many Volks dolls save a couple, and I don't care much for the DZ dolls, either. I don't give a goshdarn about the sensitivities of corporations I don't work for, either. So, I may be objective because I am after all a pitiful little human, regrettably, but I am not biased towards one company or another.

Still, being objective is being "uninfluenced by emotions or personal prejudices". Well, I am not prejudiced against or for either company, and I don't really feel anything about this whole debate other than intellectual interest. So, I still think people can be objective without being immortal god-like beings, but that's just me.

    8. Mostly I have been lurking on the thread because all I have are opnions not facts and I tend to find that when you argue opnions it just gets frustrating. But thats just for me.

I just wanted to peep up to say both sides made some really good points, and had sevral people post who didnt seem very over the top in their behavior. So its been an intresting read on both points. I don't think anyone is changing the other sides opnion but I dont think thats what this thread was for. It was made just to discuss both sdes and both sides did well and kept it fairly unpersonal.

My opnion? If they are copies its sad cause Dollzone had a new start, If they aren't copies its still sad because opnions about a company are hard to change. Either way the dolls are already being sold and bought, I wonder if anyone here is buying one for the purpose of taking it apart and comparing?

    9. I wouldn't trust a company if they copied in the beginning. It shows poor business ethics... however, if the person responsible (who knows, it could have been one desperate artist's act of plagerism) was named and shamed... and fired. Then it would be a different story. The whole company would have shouldered the blame because of some rogue artists...

Having been in art education for years ¬_¬ I know that theres lots of lazy copyers out there. Even in proffesional circles.

Does anyone have any more information about the Lynn/Woori fiasco? Did CP sue? What exactly happened? Was someone fired for it?

I think some of the head comparisons people are making are daft. There's "simillarities" but they're not the "same". I think if we stopped concentrating on dollzone specifically, we'd find simillar dolls all across the board. Let's face it, plenty of dolls look simillar, with the occasional unique looking doll like Unoa and so forth.

The degree of simplification in a dolls face is what can make them look very simillar. Like tinies (someone else had some comparison pics of this earlier), they all have fairly simillar faces like anime chibis.

I think Dollzone heads look pretty distinctive, you can look at it and say "thats a Dollzone", not sure about the bodies at all though. The sd16 comparison pics look a little incriminating... though I've noticed the chests seem quite different. I can't really decide u_U; Its a pity too, cos i don't like boys and i've never liked dollzone dolls... but their new elf boy piqued my interest :P

    10. Ok, as far as we know CP took no action against DZ because they retired the Lynn mould. Noone knows whether the sculpter fired, noone knows who actually made Lynn.

    11. This is how I feel too. With every company, even if they come out with something new, there is a style to it, that feels of that company. You say so well. :)

    12. I am not a sculpter and nor can I really tell whether the dolls and its joint systems are direct copies even though they do look quite similar to me.

However, I read a little bit of the DZ declaration and I found it incredibly fishy.

In the first scentence they said:
They have not infringe upon anyone's rights, as to the company must register for patent in China to enjoy the protection in China

If one reads it carefully, it actually means that the reason why DZ has not infringe on anyone's rights not because they have not copied others' design but that design isn't patented in China.

It also says that the patent of the first ball joint doll design by a Spanish designer has expired after the ten-year protecton.

The BJD patent they were referring to is the basic structure of a BJD. I.E. connection through ball shaped joints and elastics. It did not appears to be specifically referring to particular jointing systems developped and patented by specific companies, like that of KIPS. I personally find this part of wording very dubious

It seems to me that the wording of the document is exploiting loop holes in international patent law. Therefore I don't really trust statement that much.

      However, it's my own interpretation/speculation......

    13. Maybe it would be good if someone could translate the document on DZ site? It seems helpful. I would, but I don't know Chinese. :(

    14. link? I might be able to...

    15. I think what they are referring to here are the bootlegged DVDs. You see it all the time with anime, music CDs and Japanese movies - Hong Kong bootlegs it all.

    16. Just a side note, Dollzone's website is STILL selling Lynn...

    17. I did a summary a couple of pages back.

    18. I meant like a direct translation. Because though you gave summary, there might be some things open to interpretation.

    19. This is what makes me trust them the least. They have never given any sort of apology, explaination, or anything for Lynn... AND she is still their on their website, limited or not.
I don't care if you are reformed now, if you don't prove you've learned from past mistakes AND corrected them, then why should we trust you??
There are blank head pictures on the DZ page as well. As far as I can tell, only Lynn is a direct copy.

    20. I wish someone would translate it too. Personally, I think it's too much work. And it's a picture file. =_= Can't even babelfish it for a rough translation.
