1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

Jul 2, 2006

    1. I didn't get into BJD collection for long and haven't heard muh about Dollzone.
However, judging from this thread I probably wouldn't consider buying anything from them in the future.

I don't like people who copy others' work (woori/lynn) as in my opinion, plagrism is theft.

Secondly, I don't like the evasive language in the part of their statement I read. (Although I can't really be asked to translate the whole thing m(_ _)m) It gives me an impression that there is something dodgy going on. Although as I said, it could just be my interpretation of it.

BTW, There is also a statement on the official U-Noa website about copied U-Noa being sold over the internet. (I can barely read Japanese.....sorry...
      m(_ _)m)

    2. I honestly think its best to just wait for all the facts to come out, because rampant speculation isn't constructive.

Thats just my opinion, but people seemed to have their mind made up one way or the other from the start, its obvious one side is not going to change the mind of the other.

Its like politicians fighting over the "undecideds". :ablah:

    3. This makes me really upset. I could rant on and on about this, but I'm just going to leave it at this. They copied, and are not trying to make it right by any means. So what does that tell you?

    4. Actually I went there to the website, and while she is present on the site she is listed as "limited" and out of stock. So no she's not still being sold, but im supprised they would even put her on the site at all.

    5. Which website are you going to? Because when I go to the DollZone site and look at the girls Lynn is not listed among the dolls for sale.

    6. EDIT: I misquoted someone's post. They did not say Lynn was available, they had said that Nina was available. My apologies and sorry for the confusion! THough this was PMed to me to clarify where Lynn is still up on the website. I guess Edendoll is their official distributor? She's listed as "out of stock" and "limited edition" rather than discontinued:

I'm going to temporarily close this thread, as there is no new information being presented at this point. If you have something new and ground-breaking (new photos, translations, etc), please PM one of the mods and we'll reopen it. At this point, I think the discussion's gone about as far as it can on the current information. Thanks everyone for keeping this thread friendly! :)

    7. Here are pictures of the DZ male body with a Volks sd16 for comparison purposes.

    8. This thread has been reopened for discussion on comparison pics submitted. :daisy

    9. Wow. That's incredibly similar. Wouldn't you have to be a master sculptor to be able to recreate that from scratch? And by just looking at it?

    10. copy or not, looks damn good.

    11. Strangely... the DZ sculpt is much more esthetically pleasing to me than the SD16. THe joints on the DZ fit together much more smoothly, without the chunky action figure looking parts... my only problem is the arms seem really short.

    12. I think DZ have certainly copied the joint system. I don't think they have copied the sculpt itself, they look quite different to me.

    13. Could we see comparisons of the hands and feet, please?

Also, if anyone has comparisons of the DollZone hands and feet to Dollshe hands and feet, that would also be appreciated.

But based on the joint and body comparisons already shown...it certainly looks very much like a copy to me.

    14. This probably won't help one way or another, but I recently saw photos of a completely unrelated artist's body modifications to a Volks body to make it taller. It looked flawless, like an original sculpt. So its entirely possible to elongate parts of an existing body without it being noticeable.

That being said, I can see the subtle differences between the two bodies but all of them could easily be mods of the original, even the height difference, before recasting.

If they were such good sculptors that they could recreate a body and joint system by sight alone, why would they ever have made those CP copies in the first place?

    15. I see similarities in the whole mechanism but the moulds are different and I have to say I prefer the Dollzone for its sharper definition. The feet are awsome and I imagine the hands are too. I love Hound's hands and I own a Bishonen boy so hands and feet are very important for me. I have already ordered YU as I like the face sculpt and he 'called' me anyway.

    16. An interesting thing to note - it's being reported that the fantastic swivel joint of the Volks SD16 is a non-functioning joint on the other body. It's glued. Can this possibly be true?!?!

    17. Too close for my comfort.

    18. I think it's important to note that double joints did NOT first appear on an SD-16, hounds had them before SD-16 and some dolls made by Alchemic Lab had them before that. Even though the joints look similar that is to be expected simply because of functionality. KIPS is what Volks has a pattent on, KIPS involves padding in the joints that aides in posing (like built in sueding). Without the pads it is not KIPS, it's just double joints. The shoulder cups aren't unique to SD-16 either, they were first seen on CP dolls (please correct me if somebody else had them before CP).

Most of the things I have read that people have sited to make a case against DZ are not unique to SD-16. :/

    19. Yes, there are only so many ways to sculpt and build joints on ball-jointed dolls. :) And ball-jointed dolls have been around for hundreds of years in one form or another.

However, I own several DollShe boys and several Cerberus Project boys in addition to the Volks SD16 and the knee joints, elbow joints and shoulder caps are nothing at all like the SD16 joints and caps shown above.

As far as the silicone pads - it would appear that the DZ body does not inclued that innovation.

    20. No but the knee joints looks very similar to pictures i've seen of the Alchemic Lab dolls. I'll try and dig out the picture.

      edit:
This is the only pic i can find. Somebody had linked it on another thread. They look like they have a feature to make them lock in a bent position but otherwise they look very similar: http://www.flickr.com/photos/myling/132765938/
