1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

    1. I always thought the DZ 70cm heads are rather unattractive, they have a nice body (really nice for the price) and a rough looking head. To me I don't like it. But I have seen some modded ones that look v. nice.
I've seen both a SD16 and DZ 70cm in real life, so I have my opinion formed on those real life expirences.

As for generic soup/food/product I'd rather pay the extra money and get something that tastes/works better if I can.

    2. Personally (and this is just my opinion) I think it is worth keeping an eye on any company that has made copies in the past, just in case.

Im not saying everything they make from them on must be shunned, especially not if they;ve made an effort to reform... I;m just saying it;s worth being careful with them. ;)

    3. I may not be Captain Observant, but I have to say that the two dolls don't exactly look identical, just similar. Sure, they have the same-ish joints, but maybe it's just a good way for a doll-maker to join up a doll? Slapped wrists all round for using a good engineering idea?

    4. If I was upset about dolls being cheaper than mine then why would I not sell my eight and buy 16 smaller, cheaper ones? Because that isn't the reason I'm upset.

The idea that a company selling luxury items is morally corrupt solely because people buy them is just completely absurd. Gas companies that gouge prices are corrupt, grocery stores that raise prices in lower income areas are corrupt, companies that copy another company's doll and sell it for lower to appeal to more people are corrupt.

No. Volks has not put any notice on their site claiming this, and DZ is still selling the body without posting a notice of an agreement either.

Until they prove that their 70cm body is not a copy of Yukinojo's then nothing is settled. They also still have Lynn on display on their sites, which is proof they feel no remorse for copying Woori.

Big difference between my doodles on a notebook and a company selling dolls that cost several hundred dollars that they copied from someone else and put barely any work of their own into.

Volks did not copy Donn's Bishounen House dolls, which are taller than Yukinojo and came first. Volks also released their SD17 boy which again looks very different from Yukinojo and is likely even taller.

I want them to stop bragging about copying, apologize to the artists they've stolen from, and start over with a new crew of artists who can prove are doing 100% their own work.

There is no evidence whatsoever that any of this has been sorted out. If Volks posts that there has been a resolution then of course I will stop talking about this.

    5. true. i have to say. it's down to personal taste in the end. i like the SD16 doll but i prefer the new SD17, there is still a voks doll to speak out to me (i might be ignoring the F18 >__< i just want El too badly) i am not particularly pleased with a the 1/3 heads myself but i like yuu when he is moded and sometimes he can look very nice in angles. I do like some 1/4 ones tho, maybe this is weird but although i support DZ i don't exactly like all their products. I like Mo and i brought him but at the same time i like a lot of other companies as well. Personal taste.

yea i kno, i was gonna go back to change my post but i'll just write here istead. I wouldn't get their copied versions cos that's just me. I kno it's a black stain unremovable but their original sculpts are nice too and i think it's unfair for them to be shunned for the 'copied' ones previously. I agree wholeheartedly with u. I don't agree with their copying and wouldn't purchase but it shouldn't stop ppl liking their originals especially when the time and effort is put into making them.

that's what i wanted to say! u phrased it much better! too me the bodies aren't identical just the joining systems but i doubt there is a huge range of different ways to join them. Besides a lot more companies are using the same systems now or starting to. If there is another dollcompany that makes a doll with a rotating genitial like full operation ryoma would ppl call it copying? Tho i don't see that happening very much...

    6. Given that all of the current dolls being released by Dollzone are OBVIOUSLY done by the same sculptor, I'm curious as to what sort of point you're attempting to make here. Stand a Megi, a Wing, a Cherry and an Ami together, and you can unmistakably tell they're Dollzones.

You can hump the dead horse all you want if it makes you feel better, Usagi, but sadly most of the rest of us have moved on.

    7. I'm in agreement with your point. I couldn't have put it better myself.

For every new innovation, item, whatever that arrives instore at supermarkets, that end up becoming very popular once released, many other companies will copy it (maybe make a few tweaks or changes) and release it themselves.

Why should doll manufacturers be any different?

I love my Ying. Regardless of opinion. I also say thanks to DZ for making such wonderful dolls that are slightly more affordable.

There is nothing on this thread, no pictures or anything that would change my mind about the company or potentially buying from Dollzone again in the future.

    8. argh this is useless >__< i'm not attacking YOU personally! Please don't take offence i'm just saying cheaper ones. I myself would be upset if someone brought something the same as mine for a cheaper price cos it's a rip off ok? Anyway i'm just stating it's not about price.

Ok fine, i'm not gonna argue with u about the court case ok? cos 1. they settle it themselves 2. it's not in our position 3. only the companies kno themselves.

Lynn??? Never been interested in her and haven't seen her sold on the site i brought my doll from.

Donn's Bishounen House dolls, i never said volks copied from them. I'm just saying the systematics are the same as the same as inside ur laptop, computers, kitchenware and essentials in life.

Next copies... i wouldn't say they put NOTHING to make these dolls. i reckon it takes more to copy than to create a brand new thing.

copying or no copying of the bodies i don't kno and i don't wanna argue with u. cos 1. when i first started i learnt loads from ur site and i'm not gonna stand a chance at arguing cos i don't kno enough. 2. i don't want to argue cos we don't kno the answer. 3. i repect u for what u've taught me through ur site so i don't want to cause hurtful feelings.

At the end of the day, i still reckon DZ have original ideas, one of them is sitting in front of my right now. they've copied and have a black stain, i wouldn't buy any copied versions. I like u would rather have them to strip away the old stuff and just keep the original designs but at the same time, it's wrong to punish owners of dolls that have been brought already. What should we do? burn all the copied versions? legally wise i'm not old enough to answer, experience wise i can't comment. I will continue to support DZ's original designs as long as they are original. this does not mean i support copies.

Usagi665 i just don't wanna cause tension between our split ideas. ;)

    9. i posted too much on this thread but just to say, i agree we should move on. Until they tell us the answer we don't kno for definate about the end result. Why can't we just be happy with our dolls?

    10. The point Usagi was making that DZ bodies are not consistent. This is because the bodies are made by different people so the argument is pointless. The heads are by the same person (as far as I know).

Most of the community has moved on now. Only a small group of people are still interested in this argument. No solution has come to light, and until one does I don't think this matter can be pushed much further. We are only repeating ourselves.

    11. I agree that the subject should be dropped (yet i post - argh!), until such time as complete proof is obtained (like DZs Top-Secret doll-stealing plans), or the issue is resolved in a court of law. DZ is popular and affordable, both things that play against a company manufacturing luxury items - while Volks has the advantage of being seen as the forefather of modern ABJDs.
This sort of argument won' be won by vague pictures, or even pre-supposals about sculpt, engineering or money-making ambition.

    12. I don't think the subject should be dropped because- what if people are being ripped off? What if they are copies made of inferior materials? If that was the case, would you want more people to be ripped off?

It's not about pride or anything like that, it's about protecting the buyer. If we drop it then people would cease to be able to make the choice about whether or not Dollzone's previous copying bothers them. If you know all about the copying and choose to buy Dollzone then it's your choice completely. If you hadn't known and bought one of the dolls then you never had the choice. You could find out later and be bothered by it.

So this thread serves a purpose to help people make an informed choice. It doesn't make everyone think the same way, it just gives people both sides to the story.

Since Dollzone cleverly filed the patent in China we will probably never get a legal outcome; therefore I believe it is more important for people to have the facts (though of course, sometimes our personal feelings get in the way I do realise) before spending alot of money.

The title of the thread indicates that his is a discussion not an argument. I think most people are keeping it that way. We all know there will be no 'winning the argument'. That's not the point of this thread at all.

    13. I just think that repeating ourselves is a waste of time regardless of whether people are being ripped off or not. Frankly all this is achieving is hurting people who are owners of DZ dolls. I don't think we should drop it, just wait until we have more concrete evidence than a few eyewitness accounts from biased owners and a couple of blurry photos of questionable sources.

    14. It would be better if we had some way of people knowing about Dollzone's past before they buy instead of hurting doll owners feelings. It's really not good that people are being upset, I don't think anyone's intentions is to make owners feel guilty or anything. Doll owners are not responsible for the company's choices.

I wonder if the mods would put up an unbiased, gently worded sticky in buying and shipping Q&As just saying that Dollzone have copied in the past but that it is not known if they still do. That way people researching which doll to buy will be able to make a choice based on facts, without having to read strong opinions of others. Is this a decent idea?

    15. I would actually prefer a sticky like you mentioned (preferable locked so no biased opinions creep in). Anything would be better that all this arguing and conflicting evidence. It would be nice if people could make up there own minds by reading pure fact than all this speculation.

    16. I don't think a Sticky is necessary, especially as new people, researching ABJDs, may read it and become stigmatized against those of us who do own these dolls.

    17. That was very well said. I'm unbiased really about the whole argument, but was following the thread to see what all was going on with it. I agree with some things and disagree with others, but I believe anyone that's part of DOA already knows about Dollzones and if they don't, most people research before they get a doll in the first place. A sticky might work, definitely a good idea so that we don't have to cloud the discussion board with this debate once every couple of months.

I think that some people are on some personal crusade against the company and they need to chill out and take their 'witch burning' elsewhere. The companys will handle it themselves, they don't need whistle blowers running around and rubbing peoples faces in the fact that they bought a doll that MIGHT be a copy. It's good to have the comparisons out there for people that care, awareness is always good in my opinion.

    18. I think you are missing the point a little... This is a way to avoid stigmatisation of Dollzone owners, by taking opinions out and putting down pure facts. You sound like you want to cover up Dollzone's history, whereas most of the Dollzone owners I know acknowledge the history gracefully. Don't let them down ^^

Edit: SadisticSaint: It's really nice to hear an unbiased view, I think it helps the rest of us who might be getting into this a bit personally to step back and look at how it really is.

Edit2: Lyra: I kinda see where you are coming from. The little icon in my sig is 'One Love', it basically means, we all love dolls so lets not fight to put it very simply. Everyone is free to use it. I guess I should make a page somewhere about it!

    19. Sorry, I didn't exactly put across what I wanted to :doh I am totally for an informative message that is pure fact to help people make up their own minds about DZ. No company should have their history whitewashed, but not distorted either.

Sorry for the confusion - I'm not very articulate sometimes :nowords:

    20. please note this isn't an "official" moderation response, but just my current thoughts...
:sweat but I wouldn't be adverse to this type of sticky, not specifically about dollzone, but any companies dealing with this sort of copyright issue...
but one of the problems we, as a moderation team, get into is the issue of slander and libel. Unless something has been legally proved as being a copy, we, as moderators, can't really say "this company has or might be making copyright violations" ... even if photographic evidence says that it's true. (I'm talking in general here, not about a particular company...)
so it kindof puts us in a bind. :(
