1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

Jul 2, 2006

    1. I wholehearted agreed with u. I found out this thread after i brought my doll. In truth i would have been affected if i knew beforehand and just went for a CP El instead. But the thing was i've seen DollZone in real life first so i liked them. simple enough.

Despite what has been said, i've taken it personally to an extent. I like DZ, yea i kno about their past kno and is more skeptical about them but it doesn't stop me ever ordering from them again. I just wouldn't buy the faulty products. I don't think this was meant to happen but i have been upset by this, not due to the copy thing but the way ppl had reacted to it. Yea it's always good to have both sides of the argument/debate but some ppl in this thread has been very rude towards the dollowners of DZ. That's why i'm bothered.

I don't understan about the being ripped off thing? If DZ sold them as 'Volks SD16' then ppl would be ripped off. But they aren't charging the same price as a volks, never come in a set and the quality and posing is really good. My Rae met up with Shido's Eden b4, a DOC, the colour is of course different but i had less trouble making my DZ stand and hold a pose as well as much more secure than Eden, it took a little more time for Eden to pose with Rae.

      btw wot's a patent???

    2. Actually to be fair, Volks was only the first asian ball joint doll maker that went big. And BJD's were around long before Volks ever entered the market. They date back Hundereds of years.

Personally, there is nothing original in this world. Everything you can think of was usually inspired by something already here. I think it's great that people take inspiration from others. Blatant copying however is not somthing i tolerate. I've seen DZ dolls compared to other dolls in person. And even the ones that look similar or even identicle in pics are often VERY different when you see them in person. I've seen a Dollzone head next to a volks head, and in pics, everyone was swearing they were ripping them off. After seeing the heads in person, they were NOT alike. They were similar, but there were extremely distinct differences.

I think DZ blatantly copied one doll. I think that since then, they've held a clean slate, and proven themselves.

i hate that there is even a thread about "Dollzone originality", as it makes us who own any dolls from them, feel like we are jerks for owning one.

I've had my Dresden for a few weeks, and i've had people PM me on AIM and MSN saying "OMG, you own a ripped off doll!!!", or "You know, Dollzone just recasts all existing dolls and resells them....".

    3. just because they don't say it's an SD16 and aren't selling it for the same price, doesn't mean it's not a copyright infringement. *_* If they cast it from some other company's doll, or copied some of the joint structures, etc, etc... it's still an infringement no matter what the doll is called or how much it costs.
I feel bad also for people who buy dolls that _are_ copyright violations, like for instance, forever dolls, and weren't aware of it beforehand. It's not like it's that buyers fault really. There are SO MANY companies out there, it's really hard to know about all of them, whether they are legitimate, whether the resin they use is good, etc...

    4. aimee i didn't mean for it to sound that way. I'm just using an example cos she mentioned about being ripped off. I was using the most common comparison, a priate copy of the product. Yea it's illegal to copy. But the thing is how much do we kno to be able to judge?

with forever dolls, that is a striking image. but is DZ the same? I don't know and it's NOT a question! it's a question that doesn't need answering cos we all have varied opinions that NO ONE know the right answer to.

I'm just saying, reading through a lot of these posts, i felt that some ppl that are against DZ are shunning the dollowners cos they brought or like DZ. Like i said, i like DZ but if i knew i beforehand then i would have been more skeptical. seeing as i brought Mo, he is original enough and i don't think i made any guilty decisions. but alot of ppl are making me feel guilty just cos he is a DZ.

    5. Aimee- I wondered if libel and slander would come into it. I've also heard that Dollzone as a company are quick to accuse of it, so it might not be worth the risk to DoA. Ah well.

yukihotaru: Thanks for your input, I was interested to read about what you thought about it, as you found out about the allegations after recieving your doll.

By ripped off I mean if the rumours about Dollzone resin using fillers to bulk it out and save money are true. It's a possibility, maybe not a great possibility as people have compared the DZ resin to their other dolls and found it very similar, but if it was true it would certainly mean that the owners had been ripped off.

      I can't explain a patent well, it's like copyrighting. ^^;

    6. Trust me that is no longer the case :) In the early days DZ used polystone resin, a cheap and nasty resin mix that is brittle. They now use a lovely quality resin. I have taken my Megi to a resin model maker and he was very impressed with the quality.

    7. no way! ppl actually pm on AIM and MSN to say that?!?! Sorry but those are awful ppl! As i've said it's all discrimination when it gets to that level. I also think they have a clean slate after the copied doll. Sorry but ppl saying the rip of thing are jerks.

Tho i have noticed, no matter where i post Rae or even how good the photos of him are, i rarely get much feedback. There are very nice ppl feeding back but i always get a feeling cos he is a DZ no one likes him.

that is nice to kno! at least i'm happy with the quality

    8. Resin fillers? I don't really care what my doll is made of as long as it's durable and looks good, honestly. It's not like I'm buying a 24 karat gold ring or something. And I'm pretty sure Dollzone doesn't advertise something like "100% pure resin." "Resin" is a pretty general term, anyway. There are lots of resins made of different chemicals.

I'm pleased with what I've seen of Dollzone's resin quality, personally. My Megi has a pretty substantial feel to him and he's never been chipped or broken.

    9. Patent: a grant of right to to exclude others from the making, using, or selling of an invention during a specified time.

So basically, if you invent something and file for patent protection, no one else can use your invention in a profit-making endeavor.

The problem is that patent law varies by country, and it is difficult to enforce on an international scale. From what I can tell, the allegation is that DZ patented (in China) a jointing system that they didn't invent. Now, under Chinese law, it is *their* jointing system, so the company that was copied would not have recourse under Chinese law. (I'm not saying that the copying happened or didn't happen; it's just what some people are saying :) )

      hope that helps!

    10. I had the same problem too. I had emails and anonymous posts on my live journal ect... Someone threatened to smash my doll if they ever met me :(

It's sad when it comes to this.

    11. Thank you that is very useful. Yea i agree that DZ went too far when it came to this. But then again, this thread is about originality, which part... well at least it's different countries and different laws but i can tell u China's laws are all corrupted and stupid. Pirate copies are no big deals and sold on the streets legally in china. capital punishment is STILL around >__<

    12. oh god this is true? I'm glad i haven't posted up about Rae on live journal yet. It's so sad if they think like this. I was thinking of taking Rae to amecon this year but i might not be able to go, even if i could i might reconsider and not take my DZ. Really wot is wrong with those ppl? What type of doll do they call original and worthy to buy?

It is sad and those ppl need a life. I just hope i can protect Rae if anything, i might not take him out much until DZ sorts out their reputation

    13. Well thats put me off from ever going to a meet-up!

    14. Thanks for the info! Good to hear they changed to proper stuff.

That is really wrong and shouldn't happen. That's a really offensive thing to say, I hope the person that said that to you doesn't call themselves a BJD fan, because they clearly are not one.

    15. I really wouldn't worry, I have met most of the UK crowd and no one has ever given me reason to worry ;) I hope you don't hide your dolls. I wouldn't be very happy if my awful experiences put off other people.

    16. I hope so ;_; I feel so upset and gutted that people can be so cruel, for what? A companies past mistakes. It's not the owners fault and it certainly isn't the dolls. So neither should be punished.

It now seriously worries me but thank you for your reassurance ;3 I might be brave and take him to a meet at some point :kitty2 He's getting some modding first with his make-up and won't feel right if he ventures out half done.

    17. That's disgusting. But of course, I've met disgusting people in this hobby, who probably wouldn't think twice of showing such disgusting disrespect. (not all...cuz 99 percent are awesome, little bundles of fun!) :D But trust me. After a length of time reading posts in a trashing forum, I saw alot of the disgusting side of people.

Don't worry, I feel ya. :) I would never buy the copied doll. But I have yet to see another doll that i feel is definately a recast. I don't really care what everyone says about "OMG, this one looks just like that one!" because i've seen Plenty of companies that release dolls that are so similar to others that it's frightening. but these casually get looked over.

    18. That's disgusting...

They obviously can't be a dollfie fan. Any dollfie owner would respect that these dolls are important to the people who own them. You can't just force your opinion on others.

This topic makes me worried about ever taking Xander to a convention... I don't want him to get damaged by elitists... :(

    19. I don't think they are necessarily "elitists" as much as they are just troubled people who have no respect.

    20. I guess you're right.

But they can't go forcing their opinions on others... :(
