1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

Jul 2, 2006

    1. This thread should have stayed locked until Volks can finish trying to take legal action, or unless somebody had an update from them.

All the negativity towards DollZone has been earned through a lot of work on their part.

    2. I'd really like to have read this topic as it was being posted in, but as it stands it's a very big topic so I've read the first few and the last page to get a gist.

My first doll was a DZ Cloud and I personally think he looks fantastic. My only problem is that he is awkward to stand and one leg is slightly longer than the other, but with a little sanding he'll be fine.

I havn't seen what molds the 70cm boys are meant to be copying or if they even are supposedly copying a mold. Are they? I'd like to have a look out of curiosity.

The thing that drew me to the DZ Cloud at first were his eyes, I loved the shape, and after staring at him for ages I finally decided to see how much he cost in my currency. He certainly was cheaper than most other big brand dolls, but that diddn't bother me. as far as I was concerned I was about to buy my first doll who I was pining over for months.

I can completley understand where some of you are coming from though and I wouldn't try to change your veiw point. I'm not sure wether they have copied anyone or not since I've not really followed this stuff, partly because I myself belive that my doll is unique and partly because I dont really care if some of his parts were taken from another source.

No matter what we talk about wether it's films, animation art, clothes or dolls, you'll find that everything has copied something at some point. I must also agree with some people that alot of other doll sculpts look very similar to others outside of DZ. I myself belive that the reason the DZ case is the most known is because DZ have been able to prove that they havn't copied or legalities state that they havn't e.c.t. So this means they aren't banned dolls and people can still post them on here, so the people who are angry because they belive that DZ did copy constantly see DZ dolls.

But if you do comment on someones doll say in an image thread you could compliment the image, the photographic skill as well as saying you aren't fond of DZ for your own reasons.

I also have a DZ mini mowan, and think hes great, stands better than the 70cm and I love the face sculpt, not a fan of his slim waist, but I still love him. I cant deny that he does look similar in the body to another sculpt but alot of dolls look similar.

In my opinion DZ probablly have copied at some point, but I'm willing to say that the stuff they released after that whole fiasco is legitimatly their own stuff. Thats just my own opinion though and I'm not forcing it on anyone.

    3. The battle between the two sides are the 1/3 Boy body is supposely a copy of the Volks SD16 body...

anyway guys. Volks has a new doll out SD17 a NEW body system. Why don't we watch and see if DZ also 'copies' this one? If they do then there is a maximum chance of copying SD16 if they don't then minimum chance. But if DZ do release new large dolls no flaming about 'see they do copy' not evidence enough.

I don't kno what to think i'm neutral but still i luv my Mo.

    4. sorry for double post but i have to say this....

On page one with the images why are ppl making such a big deal of them? I've seen loads of websites using Volks dolls as models. Loads of other companies use other dolls to model clothes for them.

As well as the term 'dollfie' it's been incorrectly used by many ppl no one should take it out on companies that sell DZ cos they use a volks pic for graphics. Anyway Dollfie isn't only refering to volks alone, Super Dollfie is and Volks Dollfie, Obitsu are a type of dollfie, dollfie just means Doll+figure. Really what is the big issue with some ppl?

    5. Because the person sells DZ and uses Volks images on the banners. It makes buyers think their doll is going to look like a Volks.

Volks coined the term, they get sole use of it. No other company is allowed to say it about their dolls. You cannot use an ad populum argument like that to justify this, it's a logical fallacy.

    6. It's to be expected. "Dollfie" has become a blanket term because they were the first Asian Ball Joint Dolls. If Luts had been the first, I'm sure it would have been the same.

just like when you need to blow your nose, you use a "kleenex" or when you cut yourself you need a "band-aid".

The bigger, more well-recognized brand sometimes becomes the blanket term that all of that item are referrred to as.

I've even heard BJD owners refer to BJD's as "Dollfies".

    7. but it's just images aren't they? Like graphics? I dunno i will assume it is advertising that size of clothes myself.

      >__< argh even tho dollfie is a term that was made up by someone else for a different type of figure? I understand that volks got sole use to it, although all the dolls are the same type really, Ball Joint Dolls... that are a cross between a fashion doll and a figure posable doll. It's alright, I already knew Volks have the say on the dollfie business, i just never really agreed that it can only describe their dolls when it's no much different than the others. Super Dollfie i understood. Ah well. Volks have the say not me

    8. Actually the guy who does that sells Volks dolls every now and then, he does not sell DZ exclusively. In fact I'm not sure if he even sells the 70cm DZ.

    9. They are not a Volks agent. It's a big difference.

    10. Volks coined the term "dollfie" and also registered it as a trademark. Here's the problem with people calling their bjds "dollfies": Now we are getting people that join the forum and are angry that their 1/6 Volks dollfies and Obitsu dolls are not allowed here because they are under the assumption that these dolls are bjds. They are not bjds but 1/6 dolls. They were never bjds. Obitsu and Volks don't classify their 1/6 dolls as bjds at all!

So, using the term "dollfie" for bjds is really incorrect. I know this argument has been made before many times but with the community becoming so big, I'm seeing a lot of misinformation being spread to newbies coming in.

Ok, now we can get back to the topic of Dollzone Originality!

    11. So are you suggesting that, despite the fact that many dealers use Volks dolls as models for their clothes, that because that one dealer also sells Dollzone dolls, they're automatically in the wrong? Their being a Volks agent or not is completely irrelevant, they're not claiming to be one.

    12. I don't really see the problem here. He's using pictures of a Volks doll to sell his Volks dolls. It's not like he's steeling the image from Volks because he took the photo himself. He's not trying to sell DZ dolls as Volks dolls.

    13. ok thank you ^^ I kno i was very confused when i first started @@

    14. Yes that is what I think, and I think Volks sees it the same way. They don't let their employees own any non Volks dolls, and their licensed retailers don't sell any other ABJDs.

I'm not saying using Volks' image in a banner is breaking any law, it was just more evidence in my case about DZ not respecting Volks.

    15. I don't think it's fair to talk about comments made off the board and say they were made here. Making these kind of statements will only harm Dollzone owners, because if you tell them they are being insulted, they will feel it. I would hope that as a Dollzone owner yourself you wouldn't want to make other owners feel bad.

    16. So far the people making the assertions that the current Dollzone 60 cm body is copied from the Volks SD16 body are not, in my opinion, experts. They have not done a hands-on comparison, they are not, in my opinion, experts on doll engineering, structural questions, nor resin tensil strength. We have had pictures displayed that, in my opinion, show nothing in the way of copying and much that is simple parallel engineering.

We have had a number of assertions that the marketing practices of one or more particular dealers is indicative of the attitude of Dollzone the company. This is rather like saying that because the clerk at your local Gap was rude to you, Gap stores mistreat all their customers.

So far, there has been a great deal of opinion, and the only indisputable fact is that Dollzone did copy one doll several years ago, and continued to sell the copied body (though not the head) until their stocks ran out.

First, that was several years ago.

Second, unless someone knows for a fact that they were legally enjoined from doing so, this may have been quite legal. Allowing a firm to continue to dispose of inventory is often part of a legal settlement with that firm, and continuing to sell the body could have been part of the settlement.

    17. i've heard about that. A lot of designer companies only allow their employees to wear their brand.

Usagi i kno what u're saying BUT the point is, these graphics aren't made BY DOLLZONE the company. It's made by other ppl that sells stuff? Do u kno what i mean?

If DollZone uses Volks for their opening image of their site then it's all fine what u've been saying. But when it comes down to websites that aren't the company's own site they have no control on what they use as graphics. anyway I've seen on Edendoll a DZ rep, they use DZ and DIM dolls as their opening page.

I just reckon it's harsh to point the finger at DZ when the indivuals use volks images for decoration and graphic purposes and not to misguide or disrepect volks by doing so.

I'm using Volks' images for my Art project, but would that consider me to be disrepecting them? It's just like that really.

    18. Yukihotaru is right. The site using Volks images, if they are not Dollzone themselves [and I've not seen DZ the company use Volks images on their site or advertising banners etc] have absolutely no control over what representatives of the company in foreign countries use to represent themselves as a company. A lot of DZ representatives also sell other dolls from other BJD companies, which they use in their banners also. So it's unfair to place blame on Dollzone as a company for what represenatives do. It's the reps own discretion and if they choose to use a different BJD to advertise their company, then it's down to them, not Dollzone.

I think it would be kinda nice now to just drop this thread. So many feelings have been hurt and for what? What has actually been achieved apart from hurting Dollzone owners feelings and finger pointing? Nothing. Not one solitary thing. Fine, if you want to warn someone thats considering the purchase of a Dollzone about an incident that happened years ago, fine. But actually use your heads. Be considerate. Other boys and girls made by the Dollzone company are unique in their own special ways just like other dolls from other companies. Taring ALL of their dolls with the same brush is unfair to prospective buyers, the DZ company and people that currently own them.

Also the disrespect of owners is entirely uncalled for. If you don't like a company, fine. Keep that opinion to yourself. Don't make your disdain known to an owner through PM's, messages on their Livejournal, at a meet or on a photostory/gallery post. It's unnecessary. Dollzone owners have feelings, they feel as passionately as you do about your dolls. They customise and take special care to their little ones just like you do. We are no different to other doll owners. So some consideration, mutual respect and manners doesn't harm a soul.

    19. I would ask at this point that before any more personal opinions without expert verification be voiced, you all remember Sir Arthur C. Clarke's very wise comment in re the validity of "eyewitness testimony."

It is very easy to be mistaken.

    20. I'm not saying it's correct. I'm saying it's expected. When you grab a tissue and call it a Kleenex, this is no more correct than calling all BJD's "Dollfies" I'm simply saying it is not out of the norm.

WHen on Ebay, you have to put "Dollfie" into your title, to really hit the mass market. It may not be correct, but it is going to continue to happen unfortunately. It bugs me at times, other times i just blow it off as part of the hobby.
