1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

Jul 2, 2006

    1. personally i think for some doll bodies, there's just not enough evidence. if they look alike, it's a copy, if they don't look alike welll it's a copy anyway they just tweaked it after they copied...? besides, putting aside if their faces look alike, the joints to bjd are actually quite similar, so i wouldn't be surprised if part of them do look alike. besides, their recent dolls are very original. I do trust DZ, and have just picked home a Yuu.
and for what it's worth...I chould have chosen piopo's (excuse my spellling >.< ) animal doll but why choose DZ? It's because the body's so decidedly different. for DZ it' much more of a well rounded baby's body, being plump and pink with nice round little buts, for the other it's more lean, and their hands are very different. i believe the DZ one has human hands and the other has animal paws. though both are very cute TVT

    2. As far as the bunnies go, I don't think they look alike in the slightest. O_o Except they both look like show bunnies. Pipo's(is that the name?) Curo reminds me more of a cartoon character because of the skinny looking head, and DZ's bunny reminds me of a cuddly stuffed bunny because it looks like it has a fatter head and a slightly more realistic face ^^ The nose I mean.

Ya'know, DZ's bunny kinda looks like a Velveteen Rabbit, at least to me...and Curo looks like a cute pet from an anime.

    3. I agree that yes, the bad karma does follow a company that has been seen and proved that one doll is copying. But the point I see Yako, acexkeikai and Victoria are trying to make (at least how I see it) is that it does seem like beating a dead horse. Dollzone comes out with something new, it is immediately attacked without any proof.

In posts by those not liking the Dollzone petdolls, I've seen badly modded and simply that "following a trend" is considering copying. But have yet to see someone post the exact similarites of these dolls including taking the pictures of both dolls and putting them side by side. If following a trend is copying, then ALL companies can have the finger pointed at them including Volks, Luts, Dollzone, etc.

The thing is, Volks and others are not simply attacked for "following a trend" b/c they haven't had that one blemish on their history. But still yet they are "following a trend" which some have said they consider copying. So should Volks be shunned and have a thread started about their origniality too?

My point and I think Victoria and others is that this is beating a dead horse. This should be a debate thread to address ALL originality cases, whether it be Volks, Dollzone, CP, etc.

Its like people are seeking to only look at the bad that Dollzone has done. And refuse that they have created something that may be following a trend but is totally original. If it wasn't totally original why would people on the forum be jumping to buy them. Even those that don't necessarily like Dollzone are jumping for these petdolls. That has to speak for something

    4. I agree with Bluejedi81.
This shouldn't just be a DZ thing...as Bluejedi81 stated. And with pretty much everything else in that post.
DZ has made many wonderful things, and has done a very fine job of making NEW and OLD doll owners alike happy, isn't that enough? Yes, they have copyed in the past, but, they've come out with many new dolls, and show no sign of copying again *in my opion*

    5. If everything was required to be consistently and completely original, there wouldn't be BJDs, as the current doll form we all enjoy is based on an older Japanese form.

If originality was the key issue, as in "jumping the bandwagon with a trend," and if it was immoral, why is anyone in this hobby? Why do any of these companies exist, as they're simply "following a trend" of BJDs?

If this is the case, then Volks is "copying" an original art form. All subsequent doll companies are thus copies of Volks, and so on.

If this was the real issue, then this forum wouldn't even exist.

I agree that because of DZ's copying in the past, they will always be under close scrutiny. Thankfully, they seem to absolve themselves.

Yes, it's beating a dead horse, but people can voice their concerns. This is why this in debate. Opinions can be exchanged and an overall conclusion can be reached. And while I do think DZ does not deserve to be completely forgiven, I do think these reactions are just the slightest bit unnecessary.

Yes, the DZ bunnies are slightly reminiscent of Pipos bunnies. But that's it. Slightly reminiscent. I didn't realize that meant direct pirated copying.

    6. Why didn't you realise? Because Pipos is the only one who has a bunny rabbit so far. And a tiny at that. I'd have thought its a pipos too because it's a bunny and it's tiny and it's generally white.

Honestly, does it look like a badly modded Pipos doll because it's a rabbit doll that's NOT by Pipos, or because it's a rabbit tiny that's not by Pipos AND Dollzone made them?

the inclusion of "badly" seemed unnecessary to me, but to provoke.

Otherwise, I honestly dont' see what's so bad about Dollzone making those dolls. Like others pointed out before, they're just following what seems to be a trend for animal dolls. What's with the Yo-sized dolls, the elves, the barbie proportioned dolls, and now the animal tinies.

      Uninnovative?

Well, it's not like the existing Pipos mold satisfies EVERYONE. To see dollzone come up with a bunny that looks a little different from the Pipos mode is wonderful. Now we have two types of bunnies to choose from. Just as how we now have 150+ 30cm dolls to choose from, what with new ones probably coming every month.

True, there's only so many ways rabbits can look like. So as long as someone is still dissatisfied with the current available mold, as long as there's still variations available, why not milk it if it can bring in the money?

Every company makes human dolls, and soon every company will have their own elf dolls. Animal dolls are running close as the thought of your dolls having pets are the most adorable thought ever and companies now see that it's really very possible, with a real market waiting.

    7. Smaller by 10cm? I doubt that very much. It seems to me that your bias may be showing. If you had taken a good look at both molds I think you would be honest enough to say that they aren't very alike at all apart from both being bunnies.

    8. What I would like to know is why some people are getting so mad over what is supposed to be a free gift doll. It isn't like DZ is selling these dolls, so why get upset? Seems really pointless and a waste of energy to me. And there's a choice, after all. If people have issues with the rabbit, then pick the fox instead.

Personally, the rabbits really don't look that much alike at all to me aside from the fact they're both white. Oh yes, and also the rather obvious size difference that should prove it can't possibly be a pirated copy, unless they found some way to shrink the mold or something.

Like others have said. The dead horse has been thoroughly beaten. It's probably about time to bury it by this point, and leave Dollzone alone.

    9. I've looked at them both. No way is the bunny a *copy*, not even close.

    10. wow i'm quite sad to read alot of these posts =\. i mean by next year i should have 6 dz resins in my house, including the gift pets. i do not see any resemblance in the bunny except that it's a bunny. it's omeg i drew a bunny..i'm copying someone elses bunneh D: D: D: lol. i think it's sad how people will always beat down DZ for a past mistake. would you want to keep getting hounded for a past mistake? the resin is great. the molds are great. what's so wrong? i think threads like this should be closed now. it's over. they aren't copying anymore. stop with the nonsense. =\

    11. I don't really care about the pet dolls one way or the other, cute or not I don't collect tinies. I'm not impressed per say when anybody jumps on a bandwagon to get more money out of me. I'd prefer to see more artistic motivations in a doll sculpting group, ones that make a trend and try not to follow the trend. Anything that seems like to much of a board meeting on what to make just to entice people into sales seems blah.

That being said, calling $1.30 an hour a non-poverty wage in China tells me nothing about healthy working conditions or what kind of poverty a low paid laborer lives in. Even though China has a rapidly developing middle class and more people are making more money there than ever before many people are poor. Their standards of poverty are also on a scale most of us can't comprehend, especially in some of the industrial cities of the west.

Everyday poverty in some of those places looks like the people of Dustbowl era US, except they aren't allowed to move out of their territory to look for a better life. I'd love to know that people working in Chinese doll factories are able to afford their own apartment, have some health care, can afford to pay off a car: at least have the same standard of living as me. I just don't know. Their dolls are getting so cheap, that I question their labor practices.

Loving or bonding with a cheaper doll sculpt doesn't erase the human/humane questions I have. That's pretty much all I have to say.

    12. Dollzone dolls are not necessarily cheap compared to some of the dolls that are now on the market. There are dolls that are nearly 100 to 200 dollars less compared to some of Dollzone's big dolls. So I think the cost factor of Dollzone factors are null and void in this discussion. The larger Dollzone dolls run right at 400 dollars without faceup (380 I think to be exact), a CP Doll only runs 100 to 200 dollars more expensive than that. And you have even cheaper dolls out there Abio Angel (240), Angel of Dream (275), Fantasy Doll (180), Bobobie (180). You can't honestly say that they are so cheap you question their labor practices, b/c being only 100 dollars less than a CP. Plus this debate is on orginiality not the cost of the dolls.

And again with the whole following the trend thing, honestly if you look at it, all doll companies AFTER Volks were following a trend. So should we tell them they are copying and not buy their dolls. No we shouldn't. There are going to be slight variations and different types of animal dolls. This goes for tinies, 70 cm dolls, minis. All the dolls that come out from any company are all variations of an idea that came from Volks and even then further back in history on ways to make dolls.

Its like people are going out of their way to find something wrong with Dollzone, either by challenging their costs or the fact that they simply made petdolls and are apparently "following a trend to closely".

If others hadn't followed a trend to closely we probably wouldn't have some of the beautiful dolls we have now. We probably wouldn't have the Senior Delfs if they hadn't noticed the trend of Dollshe. We probably wouldn't have Honey Delfs if it wasn't for the Volks YoSD. Every where you look in this hobby, there is always a variation of something that has already been done.

    13. thanks blue. i agree competely with you. you put it in words that i couldn't.

i seriously feel people are taking this farther than they should.

    14. what...I thought the topic was the copyright issues, how did this become a humanitarian/political debate?

but just to clarify...sure, the pay is cheaper, but food and everything is also cheaper,so even low labor can sustain families.A low wage can get more people hired whereas high minimum wage gets companies to lay off workers and not hire as much and get more people to be jobless and starve on the streets. and because they pay lower wage, the dolls are cheaper, and more people can afford those dolls. So...cheap labor = more people w jobs and thus less starvation, also, more people can get dolls.

it's better to keep in mind china's huge population and how its economy is labor intensive instead of machinery/tech intensive like US and the rest of the first world countries...- -

    15. Because people are trying to win a pointless argument. Using everything they can pull up.

All i can say is people should stop complaining about something that has been around the block for ages. I Have seen so many dolls together, and Dollzone is one of the FEW brands i can look at and say "OH! thats a Dollzone, isnt it??"

:) And for the record, I :aheartbea dollzone and their sculpts XD

    16. This debate has been so many kinds of things. Why not? Other people brought up wage stats, I just responded with my POV. I actually wasn't referring to DZ when talking about cheap dolls, that had more to do with my living wage in China talk.

When a doll company manages to create something fresh and new, I expect others to jump on the bandwagon. It just doesn't impress me when they do. I love it when any company manages their own innovations even if it's occasionally, Dollzone hasn't really made any advancements in the doll world yet. All I can say is that they don't impress me as a company.

I don't think the new bunny is a copy. It would have been slightly more fresh if they'd made something other than a rabbit. How about a fox and an ox?

    17. That seems uncalled for, as I wasn't even talking about DZ.

    18. reading some of these posts actually makes me feel BAD for owning a DZ boy... like im somehow ment to feel ashamed of owning one?

I would have loved one of the pets but alas I dont have the money right now.
my boy just cost me £200, I dont consider him to be cheap, in the nasty tacky sense, true my EL will set me back £400, but he's bigger than my DZ boy. I think all this talk puts people off the comunity.

    19. I think it just seems as an attack on DZ to many of us because this is a thread on Dollzone so we automatically assume you are talking about DZ.

It did seem a direct attack on DZ's price b/c they are a bit cheaper since you are in the DZ thread. As I have stated earlier in this thread there are other dolls MUCH cheaper than DZ so I don't think anyone needs to directly bring up price as a factor with DZ.

    20. I think thats how alot of us feel Tashayarna. I actually avoided buying my Wing for a bit because I was honestly worried about what someone would think.

But hold your head up. Your boy is your baby! You fell for him b/c you liked the sculpt. DZ dolls are beautiful to those of us who do own them. And DZ has obviously shown themselves to be a good company if they continue to have support and have righted their wrongs!

It has obviously been brought up here that these petdolls are definately not copies. Far from it.
