1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Originality - Discuss it here.

Jul 2, 2006

    1. If you look in the annoucement thread they did make a fox, the bunny is just the more popular of the two.

    2. i c ^^ personally, i think that dollzone's innovation lies in using concepts such as animals or elves that's preexisting but pushing it to the next level, making them more unique, cuter, prettier, putting more elements in like the tattoo on the elves shoulders, or the different and plumper bodies for the chibis. personally, I consider that a sort of advancement and innovation, it can take existing concepts, modify them in such a way that it, despite of existing concepts, can still have its own unique appeal.

as regarding the rabbit, i think there's a common definition to what animals are generally thought of as cute and appeal to the doll-loving population, and rabbits happened to be one of those. many companies now make elves, which is also a common theme to appeal to people, so the trend isn't necessarily started with the first company that made those animal dolls, they were just the first ones to turn the popular concepts of stuffed bunnies and china bunnies into resin dolls.

    3. One of MY points exactly. Right there, you have made my point for me, that it looks as if some people posting here seem motivated only by the wish to make other people feel bad about their dolls. That is not just rude, it is mean-spirited and it does not make people want to stay in the community.

    4. True, I collect rabbity things myself. Just thinking there wouldn't be any room for anyone to say anything about DZ making pet/anthro dolls if they'd chosen to do something other than a rabbit. It's just how things worked out.

I do know they made a fox, that's why included it. I threw in the ox because I love my zodiac animal. :aheartbea

    5. I love my Boy very much. I couldn’t care less if he was a DZ, VOLKS or Luts.

Someone on here said earlier that these dolls are often people’s first BJD's due to there prices. I got my Faye because
      1. I could afford him.
      2. he was a good starter doll. easy to work with. And
      3. because I fell for him. I think he’s beautiful. I didn’t like his face-up but I could see past that.

I think the DZ's photos on the website don’t do them much justice, I think the dolls often have bad face-ups and bad wigs, my Faye has just had a more neutral face-up done and he looks even more beautiful!!

DZ sculpts in my opinion are original.

when people in this thread have said "well what happens if you buy from DZ and you find out later that they copied ONCE. That would make you feel bad about owning the doll"
well... no. if the company was STILL copying then YES I would want to know. but DZ aren’t doing that anymore.
so a simple thread going "yeah DZ copied once. just so you know." end of, but to just keep going on and on about it puts people off. It just sounds like your persecuting someone for liking that type of BJD.

every time DZ do something original like with the pets or release any thing new people jump straight in and scrutinise... trying to see if anything has been copied. Like “oh no! they used the same brand of pastels! Eek!“ “OMG the pinkie finger looks like its bent the same way!”

There should be a topic that just says "yeah DZ copied in the past. just so you know." and let people make there own minds up. and even if people DO want to buy copied dolls, and they know they are copied then that’s there choice, we don’t have a right to tell them not to. people buy cars that look the same but have vastly different prices tags? what’s the problem?

I also have noticed that when I posted my boy up here very few people commented, TBH there was only one forum I posted him on that I got a welcome response.

Many people in the fandom have messaged me telling me "you do know you have just brought a DZ right?" or "you get what you pay for, there cheap and nasty" well my Faye hasn’t exactly fallen to bits in the 3 weeks I’ve had him.

he was my first doll to get used to how BJD’s work (having come into BJD's from Blythe and Pullips.) he's small and easy to pose, I thought get him rather than jump in the deep end with a 60cm.

Luckily for me I have close friends in the fandom, and they have been wonderful about Faye. but whenever I mention to people online that I own a DZ they just... I don’t know I get a vibe that if you own A DZ that people think you don’t own a "proper" BJD, or your made to feel like your some poor kid who got one brought for them at X-mas (although my father would never buy me anything as expensive!)

Sorry if this makes little sense ^_^;; and sorry for spelling mistakes! *blush* I just put out there everything I feel. And it may not be right and people may not agree, but that’s how I feel at this moment in time. I wasn’t attacking anyone or trying to offend.

I think this thread should be locked for good, not just until the next time a DZ is released so people can ponder weather its original or not.

    6. I honestly think that maybe it should be changed to a thread that deals specfic with originality of ANY doll.

Because there are and always will be issues with copying and such.

Its sad that people still criticize others over their DZ dolls. I think its also very wrong that people have messaged others saying those things. Thats just mean and shouldn't be happening.

    7. Id like to point out that it didnt happen on this forum though. incase people ask ^^

    8. Oooh I should have clarified my statement... I knew and assumed that b/c of you saying other forums... :doh sorry!

    9. Well, this is the only point I disagree with. I think when someone pours so much work into their original design and someone else comes and steals it. And people knowingly go for the thief because they are cheaper... Then yeah, those that knowingly bought from the cheaper thief do deserve to be looked down upon. In my mind at least.

    10. tis kk ^_^

    11. I dont disagree with you, but hmm its hard for me to explain... I think people should have the right to chose themselves... but I do agree with what you said about someone putting love into something and people going for the cheap rip off... but where do you draw the line? maybe the problem is people doing it to there faces... maybe the Scorn should be something that everyone thinks but doesnt say? hmm im rambling now lol its realllly early here @__@ *goes to sleep*

    12. Having been to China several times, I think I can safely say that for some people there, just having a job is a great thing. And for some people, their working conditions are not as horrible to them compared to an outsider's point of view. I'm not saying forget about all working conditions in companies. But I am saying that it's very, very difficult to apply your circumstance in a vastly different country to theirs.

Also, I have to say that the argument about cheaper companies = bad working conditions does sound rather off-topic. While it was in response to someone bringing up the wage stats, it's also based on speculation and little known fact of the actual working conditions in doll companies as well as exactly how happy the workers are. If we were to speculate on working conditions, wouldn't that be better off in a new debate thread? I have to admit that I kinda believe that workers in doll companies in China have a higher chance of faring better off than many others as they aren't working in a large mass production factory or on the streets. But that is also an off-topic argument and is based on opinion rather than fact.

Other than that, I mentioned this elsewhere before and I will mention this here as well. I believe that a lot of people view the other companies, especially companies not in China, with rose-tinted glasses. I would love doll companies to produce something original and fresh to the hobby, but I actually don't see it happening all that often. The only doll companies that I believe actually produced really amazingly original new concepts are Pipos and Domadoll. Other than that...well. I love a lot of the other companies, but I wouldn't say that they came up with extremely original ideas and I personally don't expect them to every time they release a new doll.

    13. Give me names! lol

Seriously, I had a DZ Xi for a couple of months, and he was AMAZING! They are certainly not cheaply made dolls! I don't think anyone can say that unless they have owned one and experienced it for themselves!
I CAN honestly say that in my experience with different doll companies (I have had the honor to hold and "play with" Volks, LUTS, DM and DZ), that Dollzone (in my opinion) has the best posability and VERY good resin and structure quality.

    14. lol, cheers.

I don't know much about the posability because technically my Yuu hadn't arrived yet, but I've browsed almost every official doll company there is, and none of their dolls had "shocked" me as much as when I saw Yuu's official photos XD DZ makes some just absolutley amazingly beautiful dolls, including their recent elves TVT

    15. I remember when this thread first began and the anger against DZ was much more heated. Now, with so many DZ owners and with the company improving in presentation - their photographs, face-ups are on par with any other "higher-priced" BJD company - a lot of the venom I've seen has actually cooled. It surprises and saddens me that you still get that kind of open reaction, Tashayarna.

This is mentioned in the "cheaper doll" thread in the debate, but what really consists as "cheap"? $100 for a "doll" seems like a low price, but that is still $100. In any other situation, that's still a rather large sum.

As for China, the reason the wage is so much lower is simply due to the value of their dollar. Their dollar works much the same as our dollar works in the US. It's about 8 Chinese yuan to one dollar, and 8 yuan wouldn't be considered cheap. This is from experience; their equivalent of dollar stores are 2 yuan stores. That's about 25 cents. That makes even the "cheaper" prices still quite high by Chinese standards. When looked at in that perspective, the "lower end" prices make a little more sense.

    16. oh my...i've spent a great part of my years in china and never saw one of those! I gotta start looking!XD

so true, lower end, but to be honest, people who can afford the DZ dolls are probably living towards the middle-priced range, that's what's so good about china, it offers luxury goods for the high-price-range-white collars and low price range items for the lower end earners. DZ dolls are actually relatively middle priced, normal for a good, affordable luxury good.

    17. Thannk you soooooo much for this >_<

I really wanted to copy paste what I said in the "Different Doll Prices based on country" thread, but I havent got any concrete facts about how much is the chinese "dollar equivalent".

Hopefully now people would stop harping about the unbelievable cheap price of the chinese made dolls and blame it on filler-resins and monstrous qualities.

    18. I was really disappointed to see this thread come up again.

Seriously now. Can we move along? There ARE some pretty blatant copiers out there right this minute. Focus the discontent on them, as they truly deserve it.

I've got dolls from quite a wide representation of the field in my house. The DZs are right up there among the best (and I happen to like their snarky little quirky faces better than "pretty" dolls, although I realize that's just a personal preference.)

      ***
Just wanted to respond to this:

I would agree with you on this. The problem with it coming up in this thread, though, is that Dollzone isn't selling any copied dolls, and hasn't for some long while now. So... pretty much anyone who's bought from them in the last year shouldn't be looked down upon, yes?

The ship... has sailed, everyone. Let's move along. There are bigger fish to fry :)

    19. I read something about Dz being cheaply made I dont have one YET. but I have played with my friends DZ and her new volks boy and a hound and DZ is not cheaply made I still love DZ and there resin

    20. I personally have 5 Dollzone dolls in my home as well as Elfdoll, Luts, Angel of Dream, Nobility, OrientDoll and DIM. We have chosen our dolls because of the way they look - there is something about that "particular" doll that we fall for that we haven't seen in any others. Some molds of "ALL" doll companies can look similar to others with just minor differences because - well We're dealing with human proportions

There is really only so much "originality" you can do with a doll and not make it look deformed. Who is going to buy the doll with a concave chest, the really overweight doll or the one with a gimpy leg. Let's get real. you have a skeletal system, you have a muscle structure and these are the basis of everyone, so there will be similarities - unless they are "EXACTLY" the same size and shape measured out in every dimension, they are not a copy.

And companies that stray from the basic range for more originality also have issues when it comes to clothing. My daughter can't necessarily go and get whatever clothes she sees in the store for a 60cm doll because her Elfdoll Sooah has very large hips and thighs. There is a price to pay for that originality. And since Dollzone wants their clothing to also work for other dolls as well - they are going to make their dolls within the same basic range that most dolls are made in so that their clothing is compatible. So far MOST doll companies I have seen have sizes all within a very close range - There are exceptions but not too many. It's only common sense if you want to be able to sale your product to those that own more than just your product that you are going to try to make them compatible with that other product.

Also, Dollzone isn't the only one of the cheaper companies - Angel of Dream is cheaper and so is OrientDoll.

And so far my dollzone Xi is the only doll I've had who can actually stand on one leg for awhile, and also hold my tiny up in the air without falling over - he has absolutely incredible balance.

So basically buy what YOU want to buy and don't let ANYONE make YOU feel bad for what YOU want or what YOU own. YOU have it or want it for YOU not for them.
