Don't Have a Grail Doll?

Aug 29, 2014

    1. I definitely don't really have 'a' grail doll. I have lots of dolls I'd love to own (and new ones pop up regularly), but there's no 'goal' of my collection.

    2. I definitely don't have a grail doll~ at least not in the "specific sculpt" sense

I do have a grail concept that I'm still unable to properly produce, though~ and I'm always on the lookout:

      Jewel toned water nymph

Essentially a willowy wispy doll in jewel tone~ I have yet to encounter one, but that's what I'm aiming for!

    3. I really don't. I tend to keep an eye out for new dolls that can fit characters I'd like to shell, but it's not so much the actual doll. I think if I had enough money to get the characters I wanted dolls of purchased, I'd actually think about something I just want based on just the dolls, but since I started six years ago to now, that's not really been a thing.

    4. I'm not sure if I can consider it as a grail doll since I stopped wanting him some time ago, but, I could say I've been obsessed with Migidoll's Ryu for a long time. He was one of the first sculpts I ever saw, and I find him really handsome, but, I wouldn't be able to have sim or fit him in any character. If I ever buy a Migidoll doll, it probably won't be a Ryu, but everytime I see one of his sculpt I sighs as if I were in love XD.. So, I don't really know if I have a grail, a real one, at least I don't think I have it yet.

    5. I never had a grail doll and I'm not sure if I will have one some day. There are a few dolls I like to have but they are neither rare nor that I'm deadly in love with the sculpts.

    6. I guess I considered Soom Obsidius with the fantasy parts my grail doll for a while until I realized I wasn't sure if the SD size would be a good idea for me

    7. I used to think Ringdoll Carlos was my grail doll but now I love others as much or more. I now think it is difficult to define what is a grail doll. Is there a set time you have to have wanted it? Does it have to be rare or very expensive? I don't think so. Some of mine represent more important OCs than others but I don't think that makes them grail dolls either. I definitely have favorites though, the ones I feel I could never part with and I think they are what's most important to me.

    8. I do have a couple of grails -I had a grail triad before, which I got, then another two, very limited and rare heads both that I also managed to find. Right now I have a list of "impossible" grails, either because of price, or because of availability that I would snatch up faster than one could blink if the opportunity arose, and another, relatively expensive and hard to come by doll that I'm saving up for to afford in time.

At the same time, I also don't treat them the way most people treat their grail purchases, in that, I most often resign to not having the doll instead of pining over it but will still grab, throwing 90% of all other plans aside when they show up and I can afford them... so I don't know, does that count as not having grails, or...

    9. I don't have one, but I am new to the hobby.

    10. I do not have a grail doll that I am realistically pursuing. I sort of think of them as something rare and almost mythical, almost unobtainable.

I tend to acquire wishlist dolls, not grails. For the longest time I wanted a Ninodoll Bada. I finally got one, probably five years after I first saw him. I love him to pieces, but I still haven't introduced him as a character in my stories really. THEN I wanted a tan Dollzone Linlan. I hunted up secondhand ones on the marketplace here for two years, since Dollzone had discontinued their tan resin... then they brought it back! I ordered her immediately, and then Dollzone discontinued the Linlan sculpt a few days later!! I feel so lucky to have her. But even though it was a challenge getting her, I still consider her a wishlist doll.

A grail for me might be... Volks Super Dollfie Cute Renee. I don't see my finding one ever happening, and unfortunately I am not dedicating my efforts to find her. As much as I love her, I know her price would be prohibitively expensive for me, so she's low on my priority list.

I think a lot of people are happy with their resin families and don't have grails that they are actively seeking. Besides, sometimes I instantly fall in love with the FS pictures of a second hand doll I've never even seen before! I LOVE that! I always end up keeping them, and probably love them way more than I might love a theoretical grail doll I've been pining after for years.

Fear of disliking a grail doll after finally acquiring it is kind of scary!

    11. I once had a grail doll, but honestly owning her now, if she wouldn't have been an addition to my family one day then I don't think that would have been big drama for me (and believe me, I was totally head over heels about that one!). And now that I have her into my family, I don't really have a grail doll anymore. I just buy what I like and my taste changes sometimes too. Like one day I can like a doll a lot, only to find out days or weeks later some parts of the doll don't speak to me at all. To be honest, I think you can make (almost) any doll out there into a lovable little piece of resinperson you can love. I guess thinking this way has also caused me to not really have a grail doll anymore.

    12. I don't really have a grail either, mostly a wish list of dolls that are readily available or will come up sometime second hand, and the companies that do limiteds are not really to my style or taste.

    13. I'm not a grail doll type, either.

I just buy dolls that appeal to me, so when I can, I'll buy the ones I want. I keep track of the latest releases and try to make sure I have some money on-hand, just in case something comes up. Layaways have helped me get these dolls most of the time! I can put part of the money down and save up for the rest. If I can't get it at the time, I'll save up and go hunt a doll down--and I usually can do that fairly quickly, so the dolls don't really count as grail dolls--just dolls I'm hunting down for the next few months or years, even.

There hasn't been one that I've lusted after with single-minded intent for a long while. There are some I've liked and have just found years later and bought.

I think most any doll one really wants is possible, if you can save up the money and are constantly looking around and posting WTB threads, etc. And if you are patient and willing to wait.

    14. I don't have a grail doll, probably because I seem to lose interest in a doll if its unattainable/no longer available, I just don't like trying to pursue it or setting my heart on something like that. I also have great difficulty actually deciding on which doll I want to buy next as I tend to change my mind regularly.

    15. The thought of having a grail doll sounds exciting, but I don't have one yet. There are tons of molds that I like, but none that I feel an overwhelming need to own, just some to look at when/if I want a new doll.

    16. I dont have a grail doll either. I think its just a matter of whenever I've decided there's a doll I really want, I just save up and buy it. I've never had any reason to not be able to buy one specific doll. (It helps that I stay away from tempting myself to buy limiteds). I havent run across the problem of finding a limited doll I really want but can't find, yet. And normally if there's a limited doll I am interested in, if it winds up being too difficult to obtain I just resolve not to have it. I love the dolls I already have enough that I dont need to obsess over the ones I don't. :3

    17. I dont' know if I would consider her ''my grail doll', but I've always really liked Soom Amber with all her faun parts, and I'd like to have one, one day, but I don't spend a lot of time thinking of how I would get her and so on. I've seen one or two in the MP, but at the time didn't have the funds. And there are a lot of other dolls that I really like too. I guess I get the ones I'd like when i have the funds and it's available, though ones I really fall for are few and far in between. Which is probably a good thing considering all the other things I need to spend monies on.
When I got into the hobby I thought it was a huge problem that I didn't immediately have a grail doll, because so many people were talking about theirs

    18. Yes! I have one of my grails: Volks Kurumi 2006 version and I still have one more: Volks Lieselotte. I would say Lieselotte is the ultimate definition of grail for me. First of all I can't afford her when she is available and second, she is rarely available.

I will keep trying though :)

    19. I don't think I really have one either. I had one, or at least a sculpt, DZ Hirry, but I have him now. The other was RingDoll Frankenstein. I'd love to have one, but it's not a big deal to me, either... he'd fit nowhere in my collection, he'd just sit there and be "Oooh, pretty!" so I don't feel the need to get him. I can enjoy other people's pix of him instead. :)

    20. I'm in that strange place where I just got my grail. So yeah....hhaa
