Dream of Doll DoT Boy reviews and opinions

Dec 15, 2006

    1. I have had several dolls from Dream of Doll and I adored them all! I currently own a DoT Camine, DoT Limited Black Shall, and DoC Mir. I have absolutely no complaints about quality. Fortunately, I avoided any possible customer services problems by buying them all second-hand (or pre-loved as I say). ;) Be patient and one will pop up in the marketplace here or on ebay eventually.

    2. I've never had a problem with the DoD resin and I personally love the colour (mine haven't been too shiny but maybe I like em that way lol). I've probably ordered 5 - 8 dolls from them and never an issue with the resin or face up. In general most of my wait times have been within a 5-6 week period. DoD customer service is hit or miss. For the most part they do get back to me though their English is sometimes iffy so make sure that if you do email them that you make it very simple, very plain English. They have a slew of email issues so a lot of providers don't get through. In those cases try the other DoD email or try faxing. Their turnaround for emails is slow though (minimum 2-3 business days though I have been surprised on occassion and gotten a response within 24 hours *shock*).

I personally haven't had any issues with clothes and the like, and I'm horribly picky. With the girls it's easier but the boys I find pants a little too short and the sleeves a little to short as well buying normal60 cm boy clothes. The Volks long leg SD13 usually works fine though I make my boys a lot of their clothes now. Shoes are a bit harder as they have wide feet but not impossible :)

Buying second hand certainly helps with the wait times as well as the option to check out the doll with owner pics etc.

I strongly suggest going to a meet though in your area and seeing if someone has one so you can see one up close and handle him. A lot of people end up buying their first doll and not keeping them (size too big, not the right fit in person etc)

    3. Oooh. Snitter! Ducan is beautttttiffffullll.

Hmmm. It seems like DOD is better now then.....

I just don't like their bodies very much. A bit too skinny. :| But, I guess I could maybe switch one or something.

I've offically started my little DOT fund. :D

But does anyone know if any new/limited DOTs are coming out within half a year?

I'd have to kill myself if I buy Sha, and some new limited boy comes out. :O

    4. I have to say I only have one DoT boy and I love him!! I fell in love with DoD when I saw Shall ... ironically enough I still don't have one lol. I do have Elf Ducan who I adore more then words can say. DoT's have amazing faces and I love the long lanky bodies! I bought my Ducan second hand so I don't know about DoD's customer svc but even if it takes forever they are so worth it!!

As for clothes and such, my boy wears alot of hound pants. His tops are usually hand made by me or custom made by people here on DoA..... shoes are another story. It took me a long time to find shoes that would fit his giant feet. It's not the length thats the problem but the width. When buying shoes make sure width wise they will fit. My boy right now wears a pair of Luts Trigonal boots. They actually fit perfectly, but most luts shoes that I've tried have not.

I've actually had my boy blushed so I don't know about the shinyness, even before he was blushed he wasn't really shiny. I'll tell you that blushing the boys really brings out alot of they're features and I think makes them more grown up looking I guess, I really adore it. The resin is a great pale pink color and even all over. I do have one bad thing to say, that when I got Ducan his parting seams were horrible. They were very noticeable, but when he was blushed they were sanded and now you can't even see where they were! And I looked close lol. As for standing and posing he's great, I hot glue sueded him and with the locking knee joints he stands rock solid even on a table with me bumping it around. I've never once had a problem with him posing.

All around DoD dolls are awesome I'm totally in love with them and need more! Good luck with your Sha I know you'll love him when you finally get him. :)

    5. Ahhh. I just in love with Sha. DOD needs to do layaway or something @_@

    6. Limited always seem to come around every so often, so I'd be expecting one before too long. Now that there is a new boy body for the DoCs, I should think DoD will release a new boy body for the DoT, meaning a new doll!

And actually, the DoT boys aren't as skinny as they appear to be. In real life, they are pretty hefty and solid!

    7. Hmmm. Yeah. I just looked at the DOC new bodies, and I'm still on the fence about them. I still prefer the bodies to have more muscle definition, like the new Iplehouse, and the DIM boys.

    8. I'm completely obsessed with the DoT sculpts, frankly, and though I've heard some odd things about DoD as a company since I got on the boards here, I had no problem with ordering my Lahoo. Mostly they just took a long time (about three weeks longer than CP took to get us the Delf my partner ordered, which was torture), but I love my boy's faceup so much I don't care (at least now that he's here).

    9. I admit, my wait for my camine was pretty long (7 weeks) but DoD had recently released the elf ducans and were shipping/making (?) those so I just figured I'd have a longer wait. I never had much of a problem with customer service though, I had quite a few questions and they were all answered within about two days, if I do recall correctly.

I've had my camine for almost a year, and when I got him he wasn't really shiny or anything. I mean, maybe it's just because I don't own any other dolls to compare him to but he doesn't seem really shiny to me... X3 I've never had trouble finding clothes or shoes for him, you just have to make sure the inner sizes of the shoes are a certain size. The other thing you need to be careful about is pants, because DoTs are 4 cm taller than normal SDs, but iplehouse as well as DoD has a lot of nice clothes. (DoD just seems to run out really quickly...)

I can't compare him extensively to other dolls, but I have been to a meet where a yder and a chiwoo were and I can tell you that DoTs are definitely quite a bit taller than a regular SD. I was shocked but 4 cm really makes a difference, I guess! x3 He wasn't that much skinnier either, if you're worried about that and quite a deal heavier... which I personally like. x3 I also really like their jointed torsos, they can do a lot of nice poses with it.

I'd definitely buy from DoD again. :3 -wants a ducan- >w<

    10. I got my Ducan a few months ago, and i was just disappointed in how long the wait was....mine was 8 weeks actually, and when i get him, i thought he had no eyes, but they had rolled back up into his head XD

I love my boy....he fits the Dollheart boots good, the only thing is that the resin is more pink then any of my other dolls, i was a little surprised at that when i opened him, but i was also at work and they have the floresent lighting, which made him even more pink then he was XD ...though i think maybe the DIM body matches a little, i cant remember and i dont have my picture anymore of my rain and ducan together.

Here he is with Marsh's boy Rogan, she also made his pants XD

    11. I really adore my DoT boys. <3 My loves.

      I got Chax (Camine) back in August. Took about 4 weeks to get to me. He was a bit shiny, but he stood up really easily, and I loved everything about him, even though he lacked a face-up for the longest time. xD;

I bought Xander (H. Ducan) about November, soon after. Unfortunately for me, it was about the same time as the release of I-ra limited... that and I got the default clothes the face-up this time. Took 8 weeks. His resin definitely wasn't as shiny as Chax's had been, he felt a little different to me at first, but he's a beauty nonetheless. The face-up they did for him was gorgeous, I was very pleased. Though at first, I didn't like his default outfit... it did grow on me, even though I sold it to someone else more deserving in the end. ^^

I don't know, their resin didn't really have much of a difference (color-wise), other than Chax's being slightly shinier (which probably was why Xander felt so different). I haven't seen that as much with the newer DoD dolls. I did change his hands since then, since one broke on me (that was my fault, he fell... ; o ; )... their resin is smooth and lovely.

Personally, I like their skintone. Very pale, especially next to my Kyle Reese. xD;; I don't really notice the pinkness that everyone else sees... maybe I'm blind or something... -cough-

Despite how they seem, they're solid boys. They live through my daily abuse pretty well... xD Unlike some people... I'm happy with not too insane muscle definition... I'm more for the lanky boys, not TOO lanky, just right. I always compare the torso joint they have in comparison to CP Delf bodies... whom I dislike because of the arches in their backs that didn't seem natural to me 24/7. DoT bodies are probably my favorite bodies. Lawl, which is probably why I'm getting them for the Igon heads I'm hoping to get in the future...

    12. I think the pinkness issue was because they released Homme Ducan in a pinker resin ;) the other dolls I've bought were pale and the one Homme Ducan that stayed in my house for a few weeks was a fair bit pinkier. However that's only in comparison. By himself he seemed normal skin toned to me ;)

They may appear more slender but they're actually about as wide as a Delf boy though their thighs are slimmer.

As for layaways, DoD doesn't do them but I sometimes help a few people out as I can ;)

As for limiteds they release them now and then, but like most companies very little notice. I always have a bit of a stash saved up just in case.

    13. I LOVE my DoT boys and gals. As you can see most of my dolls are from DoD.

When I first got my Yuuku(Camine) 2 years ago, his resin was shiny but I lightly sand him and he is fine now. As for Yuuku(E.Ducan), he is White Skin so he didn't look shiny to me at all. Which was great! or my Ashi(Shall), her skin was pinker but not shiny at all... so I think it was just their eariler batches that were shiny. Then I got my Yumi(I-ra), white skin, beautiful resin, couldn't be more happier. =D

Im currently waiting for a T.Shall. I love DoD! ^o^

    14. I've got a DOT Camine, and while he's an absolutely lovely doll (he poses wonderfully, and is the best stander of all of my guys) I personally find he has a few issues related to his sculpt, namely the fact that it's often very, very difficult to get his eyes both focusing on the same spot without looking like this -> :? I've never had this problem with my other guys, and I'm pretty sure it's the way DOD sculpts the eyewells that are the cause of the fish-eyes. In my boy's case a pair of Mystic Eyes fixed the issue: because they're paperweighted the pupils correct the problem by themselves, but that's the reason you sometimes see a lot of DOTs with eyes like <____> especially if their default eyes haven't been swapped out or changed from the way DOD positioned them in the first place.

Not a major problem, but a little niggle nonetheless. It shouldn't stop you from thinking of getting one if he's what you want, however - look at lots of owner pictures before you buy, and I'm sure you'll be delighted with him. DOTs are pure love :D

    15. Someone in another thread said something about DOT eyewells being weird like that. They said to get a eyebevel, and make the wells larger.

    16. I'm so glad you mentioned that, because I keep looking at comparison shots where someone's talking about the DoTs being pinker and looking at my Lahoo like "wha...?" He's pale as porcelain, and it was confusing the crap out of me. :sweat

    17. Though it might take forever to receive your doll, DOTs are definitely worth the wait (at least in my opinion anyway). :aheartbea Sha and Ducan are so darn cute. :3 (Heck, they all are!)

As for DOD lacking a layaway plan, it would be really nice for them to have one, though on the other hand, I'm probably better off if they didn't. I'd have so many dolls on layaway, I would drown in the debt! *_*

    18. I have a few questions about the boy bodies.
Do you ever have any problems with the bodies? I've read some things about problems with other bodies but I haven't seen any on DoD bodies... are there any?
Would female hands fit on the male body? What about feet? Would they look wierd?
What is the length from Chest to Waist..? (i asked this in another post of mine too but no one answered, and this has to do with the body as well so I thought I would ask here too )I can't find any threads that say so and it isn't in the list of messurements on the DoD page.
Do eye sizes larger than 16mm look wierd on them? What about smaller ones?

If you can answer any of these, even one, I would LOVE you to death!!! :)

    19. Well I can't answer the feet or hands question since I only have a boy, but from what I've seen on the site I think the girl feet and hands are smaller and might look weird but I could totally be wrong. As for eyes this thread has some pics of 16mm and 18mm eyes nothing smaller though

As for problems I really don't have any with my E Ducan. He's actually an amazing poser! I really cant say enough good things about DoT boys! I love my Ducan and highly recommend DoD

    20. Thanks =D
Do you think if you can could you messure the length from his chest to waist?
And I'm so glad there are no problems! I was worried for a bit, all the dolly horror stories.
