Elfdoll NEW BODY? Does anyone know about this?

Jun 18, 2009

    1. Still no news, and all Rainies sold out...They´re taking their time :sweat

    2. LisaMarie: The Oasis body is very nice indeed. But the new (old new?) EF girl body has double jointed elbows. And the knees on the Oasis body are MUCH better than on the EF body. See how the end of the thigh part is longer at the sides than at the front? It's the reverse on the current EF girl body, so the knees are horribly unstable with no "tabs" on the sides to stop the two parts of the leg from angling either in or out.

Luckily I only have one EF girl with the new body, but unluckily it's the Tasha with the deeper skin tone and that will be a bugger to match. Otherwise I'd frankendolly in a second for those Oasis legs.

    3. Any news? Elfdoll anounced the new make up for some dolls, but no news about the body. T_T

    4. ohhh i like

    5. Hi hobbywhelmed, I didn't know that about the Elfdoll legs--I just remember them slipping around a lot. I really hope they get it right this time or I'll be frankendollying too. For now, my June head is on Domuya's flexi-perennial body--it's a good match for color but I need to bevel June's neck area for a more natural fit. BTW, she really looks good on a taller body.

I might get the new Domuya flexi 2 with the intersting shoulder joint for her, but I really want to see what Elfdoll comes up with before I decide. It would be great too if they'd do a special offer for replacement bodies.

    6. For those with the new Elfdoll body and the floppy knees, have any of you tried sueding to give the knees some grip?

    7. Of course.

I regularly glue-suede all my doll's joints since they have to do a lot of free-standing poses for me. It's the construction of the knee that's at fault. I'm next going to restring her super-super-tight AND try as thick a wire as I can get in her legs.

But the thing is, I haven't had to do all that for any of the 3 older-version bodies I have. Their ankles are their weakest "link", but the rest of the legs are super for posing. I have no idea why the knee was changed to something less functional. Perhaps because the newer legs are overall more slender than he was used to working on, maybe he wanted to eliminate much thinner areas of resin, such as at the sides of the knees? But other companies manage with very slender legs and greater stability. It's just disappointing here.

    8. ED have announced their re-release for the Rainys; changes on face-ups and wigs, but nothig about new bodies at all.

    9. If you go to a product page for the new dolls there are some photos at the bottom of the body. I'm out of the loop on Elfdoll bodies (my last was an old LB 3-part torso which I swapped out for a Twiglimbs2), but this might help those who pay closer attention!

    10. I noticed on the parts page that the hands being offered are more like the older hand version in that they don't have a built-in wrist joint, which I think means if i get the girl hands in the new positioning I can replace the older version flatter hands and still use the wrist ball I have. IF the only wrist joint shown is one with a hook to the hands and a magnetic base for attaching to the arm. But more likely it attaches to the arm cord with the hook and the hands are magnetically attached. Damn. I should have bought the 2nd version hands while I had the chance.

Elfdoll certainly doesn't believe in backward-compatible!

Edit: Looked at the body pix on the Sooah page. Can't tell about the hands, but there's a smaller bust option. Aside from that, the rest of the body seems the same, including the same terrible knees.

    11. Elfdoll has prices up on most things now, but there are no new sculpts yet. I was hoping for a new Rainy sculpt. They also mention that Elfdoll wholesales have been closed. I hope this doesn't mean that the rumor of no longer selling through dealers is true. The dealers seem to be in the dark about this too.

About the body, I just received Bambu with the new magnetic hands. Love them, especially since Elfdoll ships with clinched hands, and I need a third hand to change them.

    12. So.. smaller bust (still wears invisible push-up) and removed the lower torso joint which gave her that odd, elongated pear-shape. The knees look double jointed, but I dunno if that's new.

Mum used to cut my hair like the wig Sooah is wearing in those pics, and I wasn't to keen on it, so it brings back mixed memories....

    13. Her torso is still pear-shaped. The waist is relatively still high. The dimples above the glutes are a nice touch, and not in the previous body. The knees haven't changed. I checked my Tasha and the knees are exactly the same, with a groove ending in a circular opening in the back. Not double jointed.

It looks like the new faceups are trying to make them all look younger and more natural. But IMO, some of them look a little faded out. There's something about high-gloss beige lips--

Has anyone noticed that boutiquedoll.com, the site for Artmaze USA and the Elfdoll showroom in LA, no longer has Elfdolls on the site? Only a couple of other brands of dolls.

    14. Oops, misread. Since Ms. Cholong is no longer affliated with Elfdoll, I can see why she wouldn't have any of the dolls on her site. The boutiquedoll site is hers. In fact, it looks like Elfdoll will have no physical presence in the US which is sad. I loved going to the meets.

I'm confused about the problems with the New (old) body. My DH bought a Sooah at Idex this past January that is on that body and she is perfect. She stands better than any of my other SDs. In fact it almost felt like the body was vinyl in that it displays the characteristics of holding poses like vinyl dolls do. Maybe they made some improvements on the body? Ms. Cholong told us at a meet last year that Elfdoll was coming out with a new body since people weren't happy with the old one, but I thought it was mainly because of the breasts.

    15. Vivien and Tasha look wonderful and I am really liking the smaller breasts and the dimples on the butt, so far the knees are bugging me a little, but still the new dolls look wonderful even their makeup is lovely too.

    16. Ms Cholong isn't affiliated with Elfdoll? That's sad news.

    17. I like the new sculpts! Although, I wish they'd bring Soah back.

    18. I noticed that the nipples are very realistic o.O

The new body looks the same as the old-new body. I like it apart from the knees and the hip joint. My Lydia's hip liked to hop out, which didn't annoy me too much, it was more of a slight irritation that I deal with. They probably look alot better in outfits that expose their hips better now that the joint is gone.

I wish they'd sell the heads separately though :( I love ED heads but I don't want to buy like 3 of the same body that I find frustrating to pose.

And are the breasts really smaller? o_O *likes her dolls busty*

    19. I'd have to get my hands on one to see if it is an improvement. I'm certainly not thrilled with my Soah's body-she does the hip-pop all the time and her legs are like rubber, though I can get her to stand nicely with a little work and she does like to stand hip-shot and cocky. I think she's the second version body.

Yes, the girls look a little washed out, but I think it's an improvement in Tasha's case, since the Raccoon Eyes of Doom always made her look kind of trashy. She's actually rather pretty-who knew?

    20. twigling: Bambu has the three part torso (the "Hazy" body or v.2 body) with magnetic hands.
Chizzie & gracie: Ms. Cholong is not dealing in Elfdoll anymore, but she is still at the showroom in LA (Glendale, to be more precise). It is now the Dollheart Showroom, which also carries Leekeworld and Peaks' Woods dolls and other clothing brands as well. Still the same phone number. The new hours are Tue-Sat 11a to 7pm. She will still be holding meetups there as usual.
