Ever changed your doll's name/think it's "OK" to?

Oct 10, 2007

    1. Clover *was*.... she's now Kamari :'( Clover did suit her really well though... I guess "Clover" isn't really an appriciated name for non-artsy people. Besides, a few weeks ago I saw a little tiny in the just arrived thread whose name was Clover... she's beautiful. I wish a name would just "fit" for my poor Felian, because Kamari is okay, but she doesn't have as much LIFE as she did. But my baby and I couldn't put up with the constant:

"Clover is a horse's name! *whinne, whinne*"

"I really thought that with as much time you spent picking out a name, it would be a really beautiful, "Wow" name. I'm.. disappointed."

And the way she'd look at Kamari (Clover) when I
d play with her, and how I'd avoid using her name all the time.... *begins to cry* We just wish she had a name that fit...

    2. This makes me sad! She's your doll, and you should never feel pressured into naming her something different! :( I think Clover's an adorable name!

How would she have felt if, when you were born, everyone made fun of your name like that? Would she have let them change her mind like you felt you had to? No!

    3. I can't rename mine. I don't buy them until they have names, so to rename them would be like creating a whole new doll out of them, and that's not the point. The point is to create that one personality for them.

I think renaming them would be like renaming children - something that just really isn't done. Personally, I could never rename a doll. On the other hand, I haven't had mine very long - maybe I'll change my mind later.

    4. Well if you play like I do by changing wigs, eyes or even face-ups, I think it would be alright to change the name for the time being...
      Enjoy life :)

    5. My Supia Yan was lilly for a couple of months when I first got her. She had white hair and seemings Yan means white Lilly suited her.
After a while I started to play around a bit and found that red hair looked perfect on her and Lilly somehow didn't fit anymore. I love the name Aimee and that did suit her perfectly! so now we have Aimee..

    6. I don't have any BJD's but I do collect other types of dolls. I don't see anything wrong with changing a dolls name no matter how long you have owned it. I'm guilty of changing my dolls names when they just don't fit. Especially after I have done some customizing on it or something. Also one time I changed a dolls name on accident. I named a doll Caroline and then got the name confused and started calling it Denver. Well honestly I like Denver more and it just stuck. Now I'm always shocked when I see a picture I have taken of the doll and it says Caroline on it ;)

    7. Hmm, I know how it feels. Like, I don't think I could ever change Verdandi's name--there are times I think maybe I should have given her another name, or think another might fit better, but lucily Verdandi always seems to sit well with me in the end. It really WOULDN'T feel right to change. I haven't even gotten Edmond, but even at this point, I don't feel I can rename him. It's a bit of a different issue (as renaming him would make him a different character in this case), but if I felt I really needed to, I would definitely change it. As weird and wrong as it feels, it would feel weirder and more wrong, I think, to leave the doll with a name that didn't suit them.

I'd hate to have a doll with a name I couldn't stand, honestly. ^^; But there are plenty of ways to make it feel less weird. Like Ookami Takamori said, kind of the doll telling you their "real" name. (I do this a lot with my characters really... they'll either sit around nameless or with a randomly chosen name, but then suddenly it seems they'll scream out what their name actually is.)

    8. but dont they say they form a soul keep changing name keep changing soul

    9. I agree, if it just doesn't work out as you thought then change it. I've done it with my MNF Lishe boy :D

    10. There isn't anything really wrong with changing a doll's name, I changed Annette's name at least seven times in my first few months of ownership. And I changed the spelling of her name (Annet to Annette) I have no problem with it, and if people ask just say that you had a change of heart and that Arnold just didn't fit him. :3nodding:

    11. maybe i will change my name becuase i didnt really give him a name

    12. Hehe, my poor Bernard has been three different characters and three different names before he finally settled in to a persona and name that fit him. Sometimes, it just has to be d one. I don't think it's wrong to do so.

    13. *hugs you and Clover/Kamari*

That just breaks my heart, that you would feel ridiculed into changing your doll's name! And Clover is a perfect name! I mean, jeez, my doll's name is Heavenlea! How's that for weird? But it suits her and if Clover suits yours, that's what she should be! The h**l with what anyone thinks!

*Heavenlea waves at your sweet girl*

    14. Just did.:XD: Twice in fact.
Lady Grey started as Isane, then she was Tomoko for a bit, and finally she was Lady Grey.

Robin Walker Yuukinosuke was just Yuukinosuke at first, and then I added his first and middle names, and now he seems much more at ease.

I don't see how it could be not OK to change your doll's name... if it helps you love your doll more, sometimes it's the only right thing to do.

    15. I've changed my dolls name before. My little junior zephyrose started out as Marius....but it did'nt work >.<....so it became Ayden.

I think its ok to change your dolls name. If it dosent work out change it. The worst that can happen is that you dont like the name you changed it to and you have to pick a new one.

    16. Ummm I think what I choose the names to my dolls is the best name. ^_^
cause I'll decide to name my dolls before I making them [I have my own sculpted dolls] and so I thing the names that are most appropiate to them.

In my opinion, if you think that the name you'd choose for your doll isn't match, you can try to call him another name or whatever name that you love the most I think it up to you. ^_^

    17. I haven't had to, because both my dolls' names came to me before I ordered them, and when they arrived it was clear those were indeed their names. I noticed other Kiyoshis on this forum after I decided to get him and immediately started second-guessing myself and thinking I should pick something else. Then he came, and when I looked at him I knew he couldn't be anyone else but "Kiyoshi". If it ever happened that the name I'd chosen for a new doll didn't fit that doll's persona, however, I'd have no trouble renaming him or her to something more appropriate. Names have power, and my dolls' personalities are very much entwined with their names--"silence of the autumn mountain" suits Ki very well. On the other hand, Minneloushe is a long ways from "alone, important and wise," being a very small kitten still :kitty2 Although I haven't changed a doll's name, I've changed my own, and I think I feel more myself now that it's legal.

I'm sorry you felt you had to change your girl's name, Xyria. I think Clover is a perfectly sweet name (and a perfectly lovely plant as well, even though suburbanites treat it as a pestilence on the land) and if it's good enough to title a CLAMP manga, why shouldn't it be good enough to name your girl? Honestly, it's your doll, so why is your mom criticizing? Maybe you should tell her she needs to get her own and leave yours alone!

Jodie-kno, maybe, instead of changing souls, in renaming one is coming closer to the true soul the doll already had, who knows? Interesting food for thought, anyway.

    18. I thought about changing Lon's name to something off the new HIM CD (I'm particularly found of the name 'Venus Doom'), but she told me rather adamantly she likes her name as it is. :P Maybe my next doll will be Venus Doom ...

Anyway, if your doll doesn't like their name, I'd suggest changing it... I personally never liked the name 'Arnold', it sounds like a horrible shade of cheese yellow. :P

    19. I think its okay to change your dolls name if it really isn't right... but personally I don't think I could do that. Once I've given a character or a doll the right name I know its right, and it becomes them so completely that I couldn't change it any more than I could change my brothers name lol

But of course, that's just me  I say if it feels right, go for it!

    20. I don't think I'd feel right changing a doll's name - I tend to get deeply attached to inanimate objects and am generally bad at coping with change - but I think it's absolutely fine for others to do so if they want to. If you aren't comfortable with a name then you might not be enjoying the doll as much as you otherwise could, and I think that would be a real shame. If it makes you happier, change it I say. :)
