Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Ever come to love a mold you once hated?

Oct 24, 2009

    1. PFFFFF, how long is it I'd been looking for a thread like this.

      First,
      Volks Lucai.
One of the first dolls I ever saw in real life was an F-16, or Lucas, I think.
Took one look and said to myself "I'm never gonna own one. Look at those flaring nostrils."
After a year and a half, suddenly - I'm attracted to them and the School Head A.
I JUST came back from the MP.

      Secondly,
      I never thought I'd own a Dollshe.
I thought they were too tall, lanky, - and their faces were just too unconventional.
And then I saw someone's SA Husky...
And suddenly quick as a bolt of lightning, I was irreversibly in love and obsessed!
I started researching more of them and fell more and more in love.

I never got my SA Husky, but I did find an OE Husky.
Now, I wouldn't trade him for anything.

    2. Too many times, actually. Every time I decide I don't like a mold, it seems like I manage to see owner pictures of it that are absolutely amazing and then you see the potential that the mold has. Doesn't mean that it makes me want to own the sculpt, per se, but usually when I say I don't like a doll I end up being proven wrong.

As for dolls that have grown on me, a recent sculpt, Soom's MD Keny would be a perfect example of that x'D At first I was sort of "meh" about it, like, it just bugged me, something about the lips and the nose. Hah, of course, those two parts of the doll were what I feel in love with the more I looked at those pictures. For most other dolls its pretty much the same story xD

    3. Soom's Lupin. Not much else to say except used to hate, now love.

    4. Yup. Well, I've got three at home who I started out with at least "meh" feelings, if not "ugh" . . . Volks Eden and Soom Chalco were both meh for me, and I ended up with both of them. Iple Vito was definitely not for me, until I saw the last RS SE version they did, and something about him just absolutely grabbed me. While my Chalco's going off to a new home, my Vito's turned into a definite keeper, and my Eden's one of my most beloved lads. I now try not to say anything about never owning a sculpt, because that seems to have the opposite effect!

    5. Unoa Sist/Lusis
When I first saw these girls, I couldn't get why a lot of people adore them. The semi-squashed nose just threw me off somehow. But then after seeing a lot of owner pictures with different kinds of faceups and modifications, I gradually fell in love with the mold.

      Zaoll Luv
I found the mold bleh at first sight because it looks like a poker face. You gotta thank the creative people out there for bringing out the different moods this scuplt is capable of. I luv luv luv the androgynous look of Luv!

      Dollstown Girls
They were quite scary at first because they resemble antique dolls but my tastes in dolls have changed in the past few years and I find myself looking for molds that are not so "perfect".

    6. OMG yes!!! I used to absolutely despise LittleFee Elf El (I know... how could one hate a littlefee?? D: ) But a couple months back I saw the pictures of him one day again and I fell in love. It was totally weird. I was just browsing FairyLand and I clicked on his picture for no particular reason, thinking, "Ohh I used to hate this doll!.... hmm..he's actually quite cute... I love his eyes...oh..mmmm..." And all of a sudden it was like love at..second-sight? ^.^ lol, I don't know what happened but now I am saving up for one! I simply HAVE to have him! He's just so gorgeous! :D

    7. "Hate" would be too strong to describe it, but I didn´t really like any of the CP/Luts-dolls when I first discovered them (around the end of 2006, I think ?). I really loved DOD at that point and I thought that CP were really boring compared to them.

Now, four years later, most of my dolls are by CP and I have never owned one by DOD. *headdesk*- After discovering DoA and checking Luts a few times after that, I started to like them more and more over time.

    8. Not a specific mold I ever hated, but a lot of tinies and especially pukis used to make the hair at the back of my neck stand up. Now I really want one. In fact that'll be the next thing I'll get .. hmm.

    9. Not yet. Just sometimes I saw a doll and think it is so so. I have no feeling about he. but later when I saw more pic. maybe I will love him. now two boys in my family their are like this.

    10. Volks dolls. I took one look at them and I thought I'd never own one in my life.
Now i'm looking at them and I see their faces are a lot softer then I remembered.

    11. DZ Melin made her way in onto my half savings list (the money for that list is also the money in case anything happens to my cats, though, and my Stookie does like the iron, and tries to put near everything in her mouth). And I've always secretly kind of disliked sleeping dolls, and when I saw her I first thought she was ugly. And then I saw an owner image, and went back to look at her again...and she's pretty. She's really pretty ,and derailing my saving plans for introducing resintestosterone into my crew (the only thing male in my house has been neutered and hits like a girl when Stookie feels like proving who wears the pants around here). (why am I always talking about cats when I talk about dolls?)

    12. The first photos I saw of the Iplehouse EID men made me gag. Big hulky muscles? Blecch.

Then, one day I sat down at the computer and saw JennyNemesis' Luo and within two weeks I had my own. He's perfect and I adore him.

My brain works in ways I will never understand.

    13. When I first saw the sculpt of Soom Dia I thought: ''that face is so weird, I don't like it''. But now I love Dia and I'm looking to have one TwT. Also happened to Dollmore dolls and I think they really have very pretty sculpts.

      Those who never convinced me much and I think I never will like are Iplehouse and Volks dolls ^^;;

    14. No seems once I am done I am done, have disliked some I once liked, but never the other way around.
I do sometimes see more positive things in a sculpt, but when I stand back that first impression floods over and I cant talk myself into liking them.
Sometimes the studio pics have fooled me into a purchase I would not have made had the doll been depicted honestly.

    15. Ahh, absolutely. I've never liked MNF ShuShu much, but lately the sculpt is growing on me... same goes for most Dollmore minis.

    16. Oh yes this happens to me often, I think because I'll constantly look at pictures of the doll I think is "ugly" or whatever, and ask myself.."what do people see in this doll!?" then in a month or two I end up wanting one XD!! It first happened with Latidoll Yellow Benny 16cm. I thought the sculpt was strange with the open mouth and couldn't stand it, now she's the only Lati I own!!!!

    17. I wouldn't say I absolutely hated the Volks Four Sisters mold, but I definitely never liked them. I never actually liked any Volks Sculpts except for Irvin and School A. But I think that was due to 2 things: one is that the Volks site really doesn't show the best face-ups for their standard sculpts, and second is that I wasn't partial to the anime look in dolls. But now I've found beautiful owner pictures of them, and I find myself more drawn to the stylized sculpt. I did want one for a while, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to acquire one just yet.

    18. For a long time I hated Dollshe Saints. I just could not understand them and why people were so obsessed with them. But after a few very interesting makeups I've changed my mind. О_о Soon I will have a chance to get acquainted with one of them )

    19. When I was first researching BJDs, one of the first companies I investigated was AE. At the time, I couldn't stand the company photos of Jiao Jr. and thought she had the craziest, buggy eyes. It wasn't until I saw dozens of owner photos of her on Ebay and Happy Camille's website that I decided, with the right faceup, she was the most striking mold I had seen.:D

I also wasn't too partial to my Shushu's mold, but she's since grown on me.:aheartbea

    20. You'd be surprised! I used to not like little fee ANTE! ahaha
I ended up buying one ~ And I love her to bits.
