Ever come to love a mold you once hated?

Oct 24, 2009

    1. This hasn't happened to me just yet (even though I am sure it will someday)

However, my girlfriend used to hate all dolls, until last year when I finally ordered my first boy. A month passed by and she asked me for some advice about which doll would suit her taste. She ended up ordering a DOC H. Kirill. she actually started liking BJDS. But not all...
I ordered a CP Delf IF, a mould she hated with a passion. Now she is absolutely in love with my little boy and is doing anything she can to make him the person I intended for him to be^^
      Summing up:
She went from resenting any doll in the world, being creeed out by them to actually owning 3 and one more is on the way.

She hated My IF and now she's acting almost as if he belongs to her^^
If I can make her like my newest idea...

    2. Yes! Don't hate me Shiwoo lovers, but I never, NEVER liked this boy xD I thought he looked so boring on the website. No stunning faceup or wig or clothes or anything. He was just dull. Then I was scanning the dollheart website and found a gorgeous outfit modeled by an even MORE gorgeous boy doll. So I asked my other doll friend about it and she was like 'Oh, that's a shiwoo' and I was like D: WHAT!? That can't be a shiwoo, he's too pretty!

Now I don't hate them xD I still think the luts picture is NOT doing him justice though

EDIT: Doh! I was just informed by the helpful Razaera that the Dollheart model is actually an EL, not a shiwoo. Although I suppose my original comment still stands that I didn't even know EL existed because his face on the Luts website didn't stand out to me. So it's not anymore so much that I 'hate' El, I just wasn't aware of him xD Although his website pictures aren't very stunning either. He looks so much prettier on Dollheart's site and in owner pictures
Poor Shiwoo, I guess I still haven't found a picture of you I like xD

    3. I'm *sort of* warming up to the DM Kid Pado sculpt. I'm trying to create a Puritan character BJD, and my ideal face isn't on a female doll, not is it the size I want. I want a laid back, reposed look with smaller eyes, so I think the DM Kid Pado is going to be the closest I get to that.

    4. Leekeworld Mikhaila! XD I loved the pictures on the website, hated the first few owner pictures, and fell in love--all within a week! Mostly because I can see the potential of the sculpt now... even though I'll not be able to afford her in four days, unless something extraordinary happens ;_;

    5. Leeke's Mikhaila. Granted, I still don't care for the doll that she is supposedly molded after- at first I thought the body proportions were too strange and out of whack and... well, I just didn't care for her at all (though I've always thought her face was cute). Now I adore her even with her tiny torso and huge hips and scandal. If I had enough money, she'd be on my wishlist, and while I may not like her enough to own her, I do stalk the box openings to see other people who have received theirs!

    6. I wouldn't say I hated it but I used to think Volks Rose & Bianka's head was oddly shaped but she really grew on me and I have both now. I like how cute and round it is now. :) I had bought a body that came in Bianka's box and got kind of attached to the pic on the box.:sweat

    7. Volks Heath. I was never into him when I first came into the hobby about 5 years ago, now he is the mold I secretly pine after, and if only I had the financial wherewithal to really pursue him, he would be home already.

    8. It happens all the time for me. A couple have made their way into my doll family, and the others I simply admire now and love to see what others do with them. I've learned that dolls with strong features and unconventional looks provoke a strong reaction in me that grows increasingly positive over time. It seems the only true kiss of death for a sculpt with me is if it fails to provoke any feelings at all.

    9. I agree with people who have said about the Volks'. I didn't really see why people were so into them, even after seeing some IRL...then I saw some on here with custom faceups and I just thought wow! The one who hit me was Suiseiseki; hit me like a brick and after some hideous money spent through YHJ; I got her. She is my absoluely fave girl from my whole collection. I just think Volks standard face-ups are just not that great. I have a Volks School Head A with a Cristy Stone face-up and she is just gorgeous, and i'm waiting for Volks Genji to arrive. Sacreligious as it may be, his default faceup is coming off!

I have also experienced it with the Realpuki Soso, when she came out I was not impressed with her atall, but the last week I am suddenly obsessed and have one on order!

    10. Not hate in fact in any of the two cases something similar happened to me:

The first of them was an sculpt I never thought I would have, mostly the opposite, until I saw it with a limited edition faceup which made me see a character I wanted in it. I got that BJD and I absolutely love him since then.

The second case was the one of my last BJD. Not only that I never thought of owning that sculpt, but none from that company as their facial features were not what I was chasing. That changed when a new character and a new BJD from that company appeared. His sculpt made me think of that character I really wanted since the moment I saw it. Even so, I kept it at my wishlist on the store for a long while before deciding purchasing. Finally I did and I absolutely love him as well.

    11. They ARE not that great... and somehow I think they do it on purpose.

As for me, I'm notorious for loving a mold I once hated. Elfdoll K-ss, Gomidoll Iru-hs, Volks Madoka, Volks Williams, they were all dolls I was 'meh' about at best. And then, with each of them, there came a moment when I changed my mind and I just had to have them. (usually AFTER they went out of stock... -_-)

When I make a doll decision now I have three questions for myself:
      1. Do I dislike the doll?
      2. Do I dislike it without a good reason WHY I'm hating it?
      3. GIVE IN BEFORE TIME'S UP.

    12. I never hated the mold, but when I first got involved in the hobby I didn't understand the Shiwoo appeal.

Now, however, I get it.

Also, the first time I saw Topaz I thought her face was boring looking. Please note who the doll is on the end of my signature.

    13. I hated Fairyland's needle nosed Realpuki Tyni when it first came out. He looked like a dweeb, or a mosquito, I thought. Then I saw owner pics with other looks, and then I realized I could shorten the nose a little bitty bit, and here I am with my very own dear Tyni Girl, complete with giggle/sleeping faceplate.

    14. Yes! I've been looking around for a guy for my big girl. I was poking around on denverdoll until I saw Resinsoul Gang, I hated his sculpt, but lately I've been watching Asenva on You Tube and she has a Gang that looks amazing. I've started to go looking for more owners pictures and I'm liking him more and more, maybe one day I'll get him. I'm still thinking about it.

    15. I just did this (litterally, like, ten minutes ago). I've been ignoring Bobobie's An sculpt because his stock picture looks like he has a caveman forhead. On a whim I decided to look up owner pictures.
O.O I must have him as my next doll.

    16. I've never been interested in Volks molds--far too expensive for a bunch of scrunchy faced dolls that look like twelve year olds. However, that was before I met Olivia Morgan the 2nd. Now I have a Volks on my wishlist, albeit very VERY far down on that list.

    17. I'm on the boat with Leeke's Mikhala. At first I didn`t like her proportions, but now I think she`s so adorable ^.^

    18. I don't think I've ever actually reversed my opinion on any mold that I really DISLIKED. I usually dislike them for aesthetic combinations, and though my tastes change, my preferences for aesthetically harmonious faces generally stay the same.

I have, however, come to love a few dolls I didn't really care for at first. One was Volks SD Megu/F01. I still don't necessarily WANT one, but I think she has a lot of her own unique charm and grace. The other one is Soom Sard. I mean, I used to think he was okay, but recently I've been staring at him more and more and boy, that is one beautiful face. I got to see a blank Dia in person, and even without a face-up that sculpt has some serious beauty that sort of ethereal.

Oh yeah, there was also Luts Abadon, I thought he was quite unimpressive on the Luts website, but painted differently he's quite the gorgeous man.

In general though, I tend to come to dislike molds I used to like a lot more frequently than I start liking the ones I didn't. :sweat

    19. I really wasn't a fan of Harwick when I first saw him. (impldoll) I then felt bad (because I easily personify like that), so I stared at the screen trying to find something to like, but no luck.

      A few weeks later I saw some owner pictures, and my mom made a comment about the cheekbones, and suddenly I saw him as very endearing and cute. ^^;;

    20. Notdoll Bleu Citron. I really loved Notdoll Belladonna when I first saw her, so it's not like I hated Notdoll sculpts, but Bleu Citron just rubbed me the wrong way when I first saw her! I think it was her eyes being so closed, it just didn't look appealing to me. Then one of my friends said they reminded her of one of my characters, and I started thinking - turn her into a boy and open her eyes a bit, and she's JUST the kind of unusual doll I normally love!

And now she's on the wishlist. C'est la vie!
