1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever come to love a mold you once hated?

Oct 24, 2009

    1. Hate is a strong word, but there was a period a couple of years back (2007-2008?) when there where a lot of VERY active Lishe posters. I felt every other pic I saw contained a Lishe and I got a bit fed up with her.

Now I see a Lishe once in a while I find myself thinking that she IS a very pretty sculpt.

    2. Same here! The pictures they have of him on the BBB website do NOT do him justice. I saw an owner pic of a light tan Weylin with a custom face-up and now I want one so bad my kidneys hurt! >_< *overdramatic*

    3. i had a volks Shinsiya and thought her face was just too anime for me and that she had removable elf ears!the ear thing really turned me off!but know i found with the right face-up and different ears she is the cutess thing ever!i also thought that volks mimi's nose was way to pointy but after seeing it in person it really not as bad as some doll's noses!

    4. Hmmm not really.

But I have come to feel neutral to sculpts I once loved. My tastes changed and matured, so I do consider that only natural. Maybe as they continue to change I'll come to like some of the ones I dislike now.

I do find myself more open now, however. Instead of simply deciding I dislike something, I'll try to view many owner photos to see the doll in different ways. I usually find that I don't dislike it as much as my first impression.

    5. Nope, not really. Dolls that I didn't like once have never looked better for me later. Some I found boring in the promo pics have however turned out to actually be quite nice looking in someone else's hands.

    6. Hate is the wrong word in my case, but I never liked Dollmores Momo. She looks terrible on the company pics.. But then I saw a girl in our Swedish community who had one, and I just couldn't belive it was the same doll! So cute and sad and awsome. And now I do like her (even if Dollmores pics of here are still but-ugly in my opinion).

    7. The first time I saw a Dollshe Saint, I hated it! For some reason, I really disliked the pointy little mouth and the shape of the eyes---then I stumbled across a few that were customized and looked almost exactly like one of my favorite characters. Now I MUST have one! I adore every feature about the sculpt!

    8. Soom's Chrom. I can't put my finger on exactly what I didn't like about him but something about the way he was presented turned him off for me. But then I saw a particular picture from an owner (I don't remember who) who owned him with a custom face up and I was so so sosososo shocked when I found out it was a Chrom. I was smitten from that point on!

    9. Yes Unoa - but not so much as hate but more really really disliking it, but now I want one really really bad, especially Lusis:(

    10. Leekeworld Mikhaila.

I thought her hips were so ugly and weird and then one night I was literally just lying in bed and I was like "I love her."

      So yeah...

    11. Doll Chateau I literally did not like ANY of their dolls, I thought they were too stylized, looked creepy ect whilst I had no problem with people who owned them a big turn off was it was hard to find pics stictly of the dolls nude so I could look at all their joints all I could see was costumes which if I have to seriously hunt for a nude shot of a doll I MIGHT be interested in I thought "Eff it."

Then I saw a DC Bella with modded open eyes and I was like "Wow...WOW...If I got one I could totally do that and put the head on an RS body or something." I also think their Ada is the cutest little thing ever.

So now I really like DC dolls I dunno if I'll ever own one there's so many dolls I love and would love to own eventually.

    12. That's the story of my life. My friend can attest to that... I have a terrible time disliking dolls consistently. Usually I find that I often mellow towards sculpts I initially dislike in time, on occasion enough to even want to own the doll.

    13. This sounds like something I would post! I too passed by the Four Sisters sculpt several times until I saw one randomly on a discussion thread about the Dollheart Fer dresses. Then I had to look up who it was and by the time I made it through the Flickr group, I was in love! I am now planning on her being my first doll (now that I actually have a job that can save up some money slowly).

    14. I was not at all attracted by Lillycat's Constantine, but the more pics I saw of her, the more interested I became. I now own a Constantine head, and though I still don't think she's conventionally beautiful, I just love her-- she's an interesting, versatile sculpt, and lovely in a different way.

    15. I haven't come to love a mold I really hated. I don't hate any, really, so that might be why. I tend to like too many dolls and am happy whenever I don't really like a sculpt!

Recently, I thought I was totally safe from Granado dolls. Never really saw much I liked with them. And when Charles appeared, I thought he wasn't my kind of doll. But then I suddenly wanted him. I don't know what changed other than that his looks just grew on me. So now I have him on layaway!

Also... I didn't really care for any Dollstown dolls for a LONG time. I thought I was REALLY safe from worrying about wanting one. Then I went to the BJDC in Austin and saw a number of them with custom faceups ooak outfits and I started thinking that they looked kinda cool, but I still didn't really want to get one. Then... I started wanting one! And when I saw a lovely custom faceup on a DollsTown Seola head on ebay, I snapped it up. Then went over to DT and ordered a body for her. Not inexpensive, either of them...! But I had to have her!

      I only hope this doesn't happen often! It's a bit strange! *_*

    16. Not about a mold specifically, but back when I first saw a picture of a Soom Rosette doll pure body (the super lanky 47cm one) it really freaked me out xP It looked so... mutated compared to a "normal" body, I couldn't imagine what others found so beautiful about it.

Now I'm finally waiting for my first doll (after more than 5 years of wishing for one), and it's a pure Rosette Fir. Somewhere along the line I just started thinking they were very elegant dolls, capable of many graceful poses with those long limbs and waist. Now when I see shorter dolls they feel too short xP

    17. I think this is happening to me at the moment, but I'm still not sure that I want the doll. I really didn't like the Doll Chateau, any of them really... But in Alberta's promo pics as a centaur thing she also had one photo as a human. I fell in love with her hips of all things...she is just sculpted beautifully on her belly! then I saw Bella, I think if I did eventually get a DC doll it would probably be her, but I really love SD size, so I consider Daphne also, but her strange bust shape puts me off a bit...but her hips! (Haha maybe I'm a hip pervert??)

    18. This always ends up happening! I learn to love that which I'd never choose for myself and wish to integrate them into my dolly family because they'd make a wonderful addition due to how different they are sculpt-wise and overall aesthetically from my other BJDs.

    19. Ahaha, this is great! Also pretty much how I feel about Notdolls too. I still can't find them beautiful in any way, but they're so different and interesting it more than makes up for it.

    20. A recent turn around for me is Dollfie Dream Alice Kuonji. I didn't liker her at all, the shape of her eyes, her dark void default eyes, her mouth hanging open with no expression... Then I saw a custom painted one on Yahoo Japan, and she just looked amazing! The different face-up changed everything I didn't like about her, and now I wish I could have one. Her actual face sculpt I can see now is very nice and versatile.
