Ever come to love a mold you once hated?

Not so much a sculpt, but I used to dislike the Doll Chateau body with extra joints. Now I ADORE it! It's still super creepy, but now in an awesome way. I really, really want one.

 

I really didn't like Iplehouse PID Blooming the first (or second, or third) time I saw her, which was actually before I was into BJDs. Then a few weeks ago, I saw her photo again, and my heart melted! Funnily enough, I just ordered her last weekend, and she will be my very first BJD.

 

Same thing happened to me! Weylin's pics on the Bobobie website are SO bad, I took one look and thought, "Who would ever buy THAT?!" But then I saw a tan one at a meetup, and I was intrigued. He was so willowy and almost noble looking. Next thing I knew, I bought one! Mine's a normal resin with default faceup, and he is absolutely one of my favorites now (his name is Puck). And I've "paid it forward" by inspiring other people to buy Weylins, too.



I also used to really dislike DollZone Wing. His pointy features looked pinched and unattractive to me. I bought one cheap at DoA to use as a body donor... but an interesting idea for a character came to me, and I got a faceup for him on a whim. I still don't love the sculpt, but I do love my character for him. Now he's one of my Elf residents... and he got to keep his body. :-)

This keeps happening to me... out of all the Withdoll sculpts Taren was the only one that I didn't like as much as the rest and then suddenly he fell right into place with a character idea I had and clicked and is now on my wishlist. Dollzone Hal I was completely indiferent towards -although really against even earlier on- and suddenly he became my dream doll. Crobidoll's Yeon-ho... let's say I want to own both the big and yo-sd size versions now... And so on, so forth... I just do a really terrible job disliking dolls.

 

For me it was all of doll chateau dolls. Even then I still looked at them every so often even though I did not like the dolls at all. Then after awhile I fell for Doll Chateau Thera and now I no longer hate doll chateau.

 

No, never.
Although something similar happened with some other dolls, not BJD.

 

Now that I'm seeing this thread, there's actually more molds then I realized I've had this happen with! The 1st one I can remember REALLY disliking was Immortality of Soul Hiro. My GOD. Those big, wide, horrid fish lips! Those squinty little eyes! Blegh! And then... Something magical happened and I thought, ok, he's not so bad- MYGODYESMUSTHAZ. Lol I guess I looked at him enough times that I got over his very dominating mouth and grew to really love him. >w< I have one now that I adore, especially his big horrible, beautiful lips -3-! I severely disliked Dollshe Saint when I 1st saw him, something about his facial proportions and his nose, he looked kind of weasely and mean and ugly to me. Now he's one of the Dollshe's I'm hunting for and really kicking myself for not being able to order during their final rounds - I found beauty in his "ugliness" and custom faceups here showed me he could be a stunner (Dollshe faceups are BAD). I've also recently become interested in vinyl dolls, especially Dollfie Dreams. I never hated them per-say, but their faces seemed so empty and boring and I was "over" the anime obsession. I didn't know that custom faceups could make such a difference to them, and the compatible SQ-Lab heads are actually really cute! Most Delfs didn't really register on my radar at all, but back when it was announced they were going to be discontinued, it made me kinda sad that a popular and "old favorite" line of dolls was going to be discontinued. Next thing I know I have an El and a ss Moon head and I feel like Delfs are Pokemon and I gotta catch 'em all

 

When DZ first released four yosds on the new 27cm body, I wanted a Mika and a Hiro for sure -the other two (Nyu and Tengyuan) NOT at all. Then I saw some tan Nyu here on DOA and decided I had to have one too... since I had three out of the four, I took a serious look at Tengyuan. Humm, I thought I'd better 'finish the series' and now have him on order (still not sure of the eye shape, maybe when I see him in person he will look different, as no one else seems to have him). Another sculpt I didn't like but ended up owning is a DC Ada. The horns and four legged body are not my thing, but sans horns and on the human body= love!

 

I really didn't like Elfdoll Sian and couldn't see what was so attractive with that sculpt, until I saw THIS photo and fell completely. I know it's a member of DoA who owns him, and I must say he's one of the more beautiful dolls I've seen. So much persona and character. I wouldn't mind having one of my own, but I probably won't be able to get it to look as wonderful xD

 

Ante. Not a fan of the puki, pukifee, or littlefee versions but I love my minifee Ante.

 

I never thought this would happen to me, but it totally has!

'Hate' is a strong word, but I certainly never liked Soom's Coquina. The style seemed so distant from their other doll's that I loved. Her eyes are so much larger, and her mouth is thin and smiley rather than full and pouty. I immediately chalked her up as a doll I Did Not Need To Own.

... And then Soom opened their most recent Free Choice Event. I immediately knew I wanted a bronze Breccia and a white Amphibel on either a Nephelin or a Coquina body. Of course, the thought of buying a Coquina head never crossed my mind - Do Not Need To Own, remember. So I busied myself looking for owner photos of Coquina hooves so I could decide whether I really wanted them (I've seen Nephelin parts in person and loved them, but I didn't want her dragon wings and didn't want to run a split).

After looking at as many photos of Coquina as I could find, I suddenly realised... I actually love her face. I still don't like her much in bronze skin, but in normal skin she's just darling. Eventually I realised she really reminds me of the dolls from Soom's other line (Rosette School of Dolls), and I knew I'd fallen for her.

And so I joined a split and now I have an NS Coquina coming to join my collection, after years of being certain I Did Not Need To Own her.

 

Yes! but I don't think it was the mould I hated it was the face up. I ended up getting that doll&#8230;.with that face up a couple of years later.

 

I had an immediate dislike for Migidoll Cho. I just didn't like his sculpt. Especially his mouth and the company face-up didn't do anything for him. I just knew he was a doll I would never own. That is, until I stumbled across a Cho on flickr. He just floored me. He had a custom faceup and I had fallen hard and fast. In that moment I knew that I would be buying a Cho. If possible, he would be my very next doll, but to be sure I looked up more owner pictures. I'm completely smitten with him and I don't know how I ever disliked him so much. My own Cho should be here Friday. I can't wait to see him in person.

 

I was never a huge fan of Doll Chateau. But I've really grown to like their sculpts, they're unique in a good interesting way. I've come to like quite a few of their sculpts; their new bodies however, still not a huge fan.

Heh, Dollshe Saint! I didn't like him at all at first ("hate" is way too strong a word), but he's really grown on me ... to the point where one might actually join my crew one day.

 

Not a mold per se but I used to hate sleeping/dreaming faces. I just couldn't imagine what they'd be good for. Now, a couple of years later, I find them fascinating and want a DIM sleeping Persia and/or MSDoll Drayton².

 

I have an update for my August post: DZ Tengyuan IS better looking in RL!! His eye shapes are more refined than what I thought. Phew, I'm happy with his sculpt now!

 

Souldoll Ryucine - used to think that sculpt too, I don't know, something. But he gradually grew on me - then I realized w/the right face-up he'd actually look a lot like JYJ's Jaejoong - so of course NOW I must HAVE him LOL

 

I have never liked doll chateau, anything about them... But i recently saw one of there bodies, and completely fell in love! same thing happened with my AOD shang nai, i didn't like her at first few glances, but now she's my kone girl and she's so amazing in person i can't stand it x3
