1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever felt ripped off by a company?

Feb 27, 2013

    1. Only by eBay sellers. Anyone remember MagicTailor? They used to have some quite nice stuff, but turned shady & quickly vanished. On my last order from them (this must've been in like 06 or 07), half the items were missing from my order. So I wrote to them, and they eventually sent two more items, but the order still wasn't complete.... one of the wigs I bought was completely lopsided and nothing like its picture, but I was starting to get a sinking feeling so I didn't bother to send it back.... when I wrote to them to request the rest of the items in my order, there was no reply, and no reply, and no reply, and then they were just gone from eBay and Paypal and the internet. I think they left a lot of other people with even less stuff than I got, so I was happy to get the items I did! Sometimes you just get burnt.

I have dodged at least two other bullets from crooked and/or disappearing dealers, though... I managed to get all the clothes I'd ordered from Mio just before she vanished, and I safely got my Limhwa Mano from Dollfair International before they turned crooked. When I heard about each of those debacles, I felt very lucky about my timing, because there were some people who got seriously screwed.

Still consider myself lucky that I haven't gotten burnt more than that one time from MagicTailor. Any other doll-company who's sent me damaged goods (including but not limited to Dollmore, Volks, & Iplehouse) has always sent me fixes or replacements in good faith.

As for that lopsided wig, I kept it and love it and one of my dolls is still wearing it to this day. XD

    2. For me, the first full set outfit I ever bought with a doll was VERY disappointing to the point in putting me off fullsets from then on. I had assumed from the photos that at least cotton had been used for the outfit so imagine instead my reaction when both pants and printed top arrive in really cheap nasty shiny thin tacky stretch nylon lycra fabric. Blerk! :ablah:

    3. Not exactly ripped off, but I ordered a pair of boots from Volks and the zipper sort of fell apart and would not zip back up. They sent me a replacement pair and the same thing happened. And then again with the second replacement pair. So I just gave up. I wish they had a store credit policy instead of replacing the same faulty item. But they don't :(. C'est la vie! Considering that I've spent (oh man I hate to say it) thousands on Volks merch and never had a problem I think I can let one pair of boots slide. I still have them; maybe someone crafty can replace the zippers for me one day.

    4. I bought two CDS EID dolls from Iplehouse during their Christmas Event- a free wig, calendar, and $25 off coupon, thinking it was a nice deal. A couple months before, they had increased all their prices. Then they decide to stop selling the current EID models and sell the ones in stock for 5% off. Talk about bad timing, but I seriously felt like they ripped me off for a couple hundred dollars. Increase the price before giving a discount in an event or promotion and selling leftover stock that could've been sitting on the shelves yellowing for months. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. Even though I love their dolls, I don't think I'll buy from Iplehouse again.

    5. Soom :( I got a tan Idealian boy and he came to me with really thin resin and sanding marks all over... I contacted them, but they didn't really reply for about three weeks. Now they want me to send the doll back at my expense, to refund me afterwards...

I mean, I know that they're going to refund me and everything, but considering the amount of money that I've already paid for the boy and the fact that they barely communicated when I asked them questions, and the fact that with me, they're usually excellent with their communication, I felt a bit ripped off, quality wise :(

    6. apparently some appliance or furniture sales people do that as well! So month before christmas, they increase the price of their items secretly and then make it look like it's on a massive sale afterwards!

    7. Not any store I've ever worked at, thankfully.

I came so so so close to getting burned with my second doll -- this was back when Laidoll still existed. They had a doll I thought was really cute, and I was going to buy him for a character I had in mind. So I send my money. And I wait. And I wait. Communication was pretty good for three weeks, then -- nothing. Just not a thing. I managed to file a Paypal dispute and get my money back just barely in time, but two other girls who ordered from the same company at about the same time weren't as lucky. Theirs eventually showed up...months and months later. I put my money toward ordering a doll from DOD, and I was much happier with the result. The whole thing is documented in the Problem Transaction forum.

    8. To some extent yes. I purchased my first doll from Withdoll and if I'm not mistaken she was set to arrive within a three month period, and at the end of month four she finally arrived. Aesthetically she was beautiful, exactly how imagined her strung perfectly with all of the promised parts included in addition to a pair of heeled feet that I think were a gift. I was completely over the moon, until I noticed a deep crack at the bottom of her thigh piece two days later. I emailed the company, with pictures and all my order details, and they never got back to me.

The week after that I changed her feet so she could wear a pair of high heeled shoes I purchased her and the resin at the bottom of her ankle chipped almost instantly. When I picked up the piece to examine it I realized it was literally as thin as paper. I think I would've been less bothered by the entire situation if the company had made any attempt to reply to my emails and take responsibilty for the poor quality of the doll I paid for. :(

(I would just like to say that the company has since contacted me and we've come to a happy resolution to this problem.)

    9. Have I... I could go on ranting for a while but I'll try to keep this short and sweet; well... it's been a bumpy ride with me and Fairyland and most people that know me know that. I love CP sculpts (as a matter of fact I have plans for a Karsh and Seorin) and enjoy my Minifee as well as my friend's boy who is currently staying at my house. However, my girl's body arrived covered in snowflakes and little scratches on the resin that were invisible under most conditions unless she was held under a specific angle under the light yet they were still there. I can't understand how my dolls from cheaper companies can arrive completely smooth, often without seam lines even (although i'm not bothered by seams unless they're sharp and dangerous) and Fairyland's own dolls can't. And I almost can't justify spending so much money (that i could have otherwise used to buy two "cheaper" MSDs) on a doll that may come in faulty, from a company with dreadful customer service and quality control that won't even acknowledge the faults or try to fix them by even SELLING replacement parts, and that ultimately doesn't even pose as well... >>

    10. Usually when it comes to clothes.
I once ordered a dress from The Cat's Gift which was really expensive. It arrived here with glue spots on the top, damaged and already falling out feathers and the bottom part was actually nothing but a huge amount of very cheap and super stiff and scratchy tulle. I was quite angry about this but didn't say anything, I had already waited so long for this dress and just stopped caring.
I once bought a SID top from Iplehouse which was not worth the money I spend it on.
It consisted of a loose top and arm warmers; the warmers were badly cut off tubes of fabric, not even finished at the ends, and the top was equally bad made. I was pretty shocked about the quality :/
And oh, Volks and their attitude towards their Dollfie Dream products and the stuff they make for them, i.e. outfits and full-set.
Sorry, you expect people to pay hundreds of dollars for a doll which, if you put on the full-set you sell it with, will be damaged with a 100% chance? Yeah, sure. Just so people are forced to buy replacement parts so you get more money out of the whole deal or what?! :I

And while not being exactly ripped off I always feel a bit bummed about the Iplehouse events which are, compared to a majority of other events by doll companes, a lame joke.
I also dislike it when resellers edit the original companies photos so you are forced to buy from them, usually for a higher price.

And oh, I also feel always rather miffed when I pay a lot for a doll just to receive a badly posing, in huge seamlines covered doll that changes its color as soon as I keep it out for an hour -__-
Especially when I shortly before or afterwards buy a lot cheaper doll that poses like a dream, is smooth and has a lovely color that tends to take forever to change to something different.

    11. I wasnt too thrilled with my For My Doll purchase. I ordered a wig in a GO and there is no way it is the size it says it is. If it is I wanna see what measuring tool they're using. I meant to order a 8-9 size but accidently sent the link to the 7-8. Turns out the doll I ordered it for which is on layaway apparently works better with a 7-8. So I try the wig on my DZ annie who was a 7-8 head...nope. My AoD Meng Li who has a 7-8 head...nope. So I decide to try it on one of my RS MSDs who have 6-7 heads and it fits like a glove. And its not like I just dont like the fit of it on my girls heads, it literally does not fit at all. The other wig I got from them for my DZ annie which was supposed to be a 7-8 doesnt fit either. So I guess the moral of the story is...buy one size bigger when ordering from FMD. Idk if I ever will though now kinda left a sour taste in my mouth.

    12. I admit to being less than impressed with my full set Isar. For starters, the wig she came with is way too big. I've got a rubber headcap on her, and I still can't keep the wig on her head when I move her. It's just foregone that I'll be readjusting the wig every time. On the other hand, her pants are a smidge too small. They're nearly impossible to get on, and she cannot sit down in them. I still love the outfit, and she looks freaking awesome when she stands in it, but with the cost of the full set (and being all made by Iplehouse themselves) I expected the parts to fit better.

    13. I recently ordered a doll during Iplehouse's summer event, the one where you get 10 bucks off over 800 (which is ridiculous) and free hand brushing with any large doll (EID, SID, nYID) and my doll is SID size, so I ordered everything but noticed that I still paid for the brushing. As it turns out WHICH THEY DO NOT SPECIFY THIS ON THE EVENT PAGE you only get the free brushing if you don't order it. I ordered it and had no idea. What if I didn't want the hand brushing? They would have done it anyway. They didn't take it off my order and told me I could have it if I ordered another pair of hands. Yeah, I'm going to pay another 30 bucks plus shipping because it wouldn't have been added to my current order just to not pay 18 dollars for brushing.

    14. I can add something to my experience:
We just got a pair of Soom shoes, directly ordered from Soom, and it's clearly visible that they have been used. The leather is heavily crinkled and the shoes show several signs only used shoes have (like ones that had a pair of feet several times put in and out), next to that a friend of mine got the shoes way before me and hers looked brand new.
I guess they were the last ones and maybe the ones they have used for the pictures, still they could have said somewhere that the shoes are not in mint condition. There wasn't a discount either :/

    15. Yes. An eye company on etsy. The eyes they sent out apparently got lost, so they said they'd send me a new pair. When I got the new pair, they were the wrong color, and they said if I want the right pair, I'd have to pay again! I don't even think they got lost in the first place. I think it was just a way to get extra money.
