1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. I discovered two evenings ago that a friend I've known for a couple of years collects them! She even invited me to go with her to the next local meetup! I was so happy to find out I know another BJD owner in real life.

    2. Long before I was interested in BJDs, I had a friend from college I would go to conventions with. She had mentioned owning a couple of ball jointed dolls, and I even had to see one of them in real life while we were visiting her parents' place on our way back home from a convention.
My friend now lives a little too far from me to hang out with as often as we used to, but now that I've gotten into the hobby, it has been something fun to talk about every now and then.

    3. no never just on facebook

    4. I have gone to 2 Doll meets and met some really cool people, people I talk to a lot and consider friends :3

    5. I have met quite a few. I like to attend meet ups and conventions, which is how I met many of them. Some have even become close friends!
It's always nice to occasionally talk dollies in person with people.

    6. I have never met a BJD collector IRL, only figma owners and even them I know two or three. I guess it's because most of my friends or the people I interact with are pretty young and mostly still in college, so they usually want to spend their money elsewhere.
As for the convetion, I haven't been able to go to any of them, because of financial issues. Even the Ldoll, in my own country, because I can't pay for accomodation. People from DOA are the first BJD owners I've talked to.

    7. Not yet! Maybe someday I will.

    8. Sadly i do not

    9. I had a classmate in my first year of college who collected BJDs. She is partially to blame for me taking the plunge and getting my first one, as she showed me the company he was from and was all "SALE, 50% off :O so cheap, I am getting [sculpt]" and then I impulsively splurged all my savings on my first. I say blame, but I'm actually quite grateful, despite ending up disliking the sculpt I bought. It kinda opened my eyes for other companies, and whatnot.

Thinking about it, I believe she had about 3 or 4 of them around the time I recieved my first, but I don't remember what sculpts... only she preferred MSDs and I am fairly certain she had one Angel Studios fullset. While we still had contact with eachother she'd occasionally suggest we did cloth trades or hung out, but after I dropped out of college our contact tapered off, and now I haven't seen her/talked to her for 7-ish years.

    10. I met some at that one Austin con. I just happened to be in the city for an internship, so I stopped by on the free day to look around and get a look at some real life dolls. And there are meets in my city, but they are infrequent/at bad times/far away, so I have never gone. Now I am finally getting a full doll together, I really want to go before I move.

    11. I met my friend via a FB group on miniatures/dollhouses, and come to find out we live in the same city. She uses Lati Whites as they're 1/12 scale and got a lot of the women in the miniatures FB groups we belong to to get Lati Whites. I kinda just enjoyed those guys until I saw my Mystic Jia, and then joined in.

In May she and I are going to a meet-up here which we are both looking forward to.

    12. I haven't yet. I remember a looong time ago a friend from high school collected some kind of doll and posted a lot of photos of them on her Facebook... I feel like they might have been Pullips, but I can't be sure. I wasn't interested in dolls at the time.

However, in August I'm moving to a city with an active BJD group, so I'm looking forward to meeting people then. :)

    13. I've been to two meets so far and I've met some wonderful people. I'd love to talk to them more, but I'm really shy and bad with conversations. >.< Still, the meets were a lot of fun and even though I have to travel and hour or more for them, I hope to attend more!

    14. ^^ I met a few right when I started getting interested in BJDs at a local convention. I was really shy when I was younger so I never really interacted with them, I went to one meet back then... but I felt super awkward since most of the other owners were a lot older than I was. :sweat It wasn't until recently that I've been going to local meets again. Everyone is super nice though & I've gotten some of my friends more interested into BJDs by dragging them with me to meets :XD:

    15. Sadly, I have only met BJD owners for selling/trading purposes. But I can't wait to attend a real meeting!

    16. Only my mom. I want some local BJD friends!

    17. I will be meeting one soon !! but maybe we can't bring our dolls because it's only the two of us and in the mall lol XD

    19. Yes, I'm afraid people I know in real life are 100% at fault for getting me into this money-and-timesuck of a hobby! (and I'm loving every minute ;D )
