1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. Other than my partner, I've never met another BJD owner in real life... until today. I was cashiering at the craft store I work at, and a customer walked up to my counter while carrying a doll that I've had on my wishlist for a while. She seemed a bit startled when I not only recognized that it was a BJD, but knew what company and sculpt it was off the top of my head, but I probably would have had the same reaction if a random cashier decided to ask me about my dolls. Once the initial shock wore off, we talked about her doll for a moment, and she let me look at the doll, which was awesome. I wish I could have spent more time talking to her, but there was a pretty long line of people behind her, and I had to just finish ringing up her purchases after that. It was kind of a surreal experience.

    2. I have never met a bjd owner outside of my family. I say this because my sister also owns a bjd. Also i would like to one day meet some bjd people!:abow:

    3. I don't know BJD's owners in real life. I met some owners at conventions and talked to them a bit but that's it. I'm kind of sad about it but I hope there will be a meetup around my town soon to make new friends :)

    4. I've never directly met another BJD owner. I know a friend who is getting into this hobby, but unfortunately the 'doll scene' in Perth, Australia seems to be almost non-existent. I've considered trying to make a thread so I could actually meet people here, but I feel like it wouldn't do much D:

    5. Once met a Smartdoll owner at a con, they were having a booth in the artist ally. Apart from that, sadly no contact :/ But I' m hoping to maybe inspire people in my country to take a look into this great hobby, since I' m planing to host a lecture at a con here next year.

    6. I was introduced to bjd via college friends, but have met more since by going to meetups and by chance. Meetups are the best!

    7. I ordered my first doll because of one of my friends who bought hers around the same time ^_^ I also had the chance recently to attend a local meetup and it was so fun, everyone was so nice! I've also met some BJD owners at anime conventions when I was younger.

    8. I remember being at a convention and interacting with a BJD owner a little bit when I was younger, but I was so nervous, I mostly just watched them play and pose the dolls.
I also saw a booth at A-Fest a couple of years ago, but I, again, just watched from a distance.
I think, now, I would approach them and (nervously) start up a conversation.

I did get my boyfriend into the hobby, so I guess I live with another hobbiest!

    9. Sadly, I have never met anyone who owns BJDs. I have mentioned the hobby to someone and that person seems interested in getting their own doll now. It would be great to have real-life friends who like dolls!

    10. Nope! No BJD people live in my area! At least I don't think so!

    11. I've never met a BJD owner... And actually the only doll I own is the only BJD I have ever seen! But soon I'm going to a convention so I will see a lot of dolls and their owners there :)

    12. I’ve seen a few at anime conventions but I never went up and talked to them. But this was when I didn’t have my first bjd.

    13. I've never met a bjd owner in person before, but I'd really like to! I got one of my friends interested in bjds and he is now thinking of buying one! When he get his doll we could take pictures of our bjds together!

    14. I've never met a bjd collector in person other than than on video chats.

    15. The first year I began collecting was 2014.

At that point, I was reborning lifelike babies and I had signed up to exhibit at the 2014 International Doll Show.

It was located in Asheville, North Carolina and I lived 2.5 hours away so we made a weekend trip out of it.

That was the first time I had actually seen bjds in person.

Before that, I had only seen photos and had already ordered some but they hadn't arrived yet.

I met Faceup artists and doll company owners and it was an amazing experience.

Shortly after that, I became much more involved in the BJD world and started to expand my online friend base to include those who were just as obsessed as I was.

After my recent move from North to South Carolina, I met up with another real life BJD owner who just happens to live 15 minutes away.

I only had three dolls at the time of our first meetup and so we had lunch, got to know each other and we hung out in her doll room all afternoon.

I got to see her entire doll collection, not just BJD's...and it was epic.

We just had our second meetup two weekends ago and I can't say it enough:

Having a true BJD lover as a close friend is incredible.

People keep saying how lucky we are and how they wish they had a doll friend nearby and I am very grateful.

I hope everyone will eventually find a close dolly friend.

      It's the bee's knees! :love

    16. I actually found out a friend of mine is into the hobby as well but she just doesn't have a doll yet. She ordered a doll now after I ordered my second one and I'm so excited to have someone in the hobby, it's so great to be able to talk about it with someone! :)

    17. I never have. But I live in a small town, well kind of small, Charleston WV. I doubt there are many. But I'll be at St. Louis convention in a couple of weeks!

    18. I did :) I live near Paris, si it's easy and frequent to organize doll meetings, plus the conventions we have in France. I guess I'm lucky not to live in a small village, away from any big cities !

    19. No, I don't know of another person aside from on the internet who even knows what a BJD is except for the ones I have told about them. I have only seen the one doll that I own 'in person', and will soon see my 2nd when I pick her up at the post office. I am out of town or that would have already happened, in case you wonder why I am typing on a forum and not racing to the post office. :) Thankfully, there is the internet, otherwise I would not even know about them, and I certainly wouldn't be able to learn anything or see so many different ones. I am sure that at some point I will be able to connect with someone within driving distance or attend a convention.

Editing to add that my daughter does know about BJDs and is interested. I was thinking more of peers, I guess. But she knew exactly what they were when I first mentioned them. She is becoming more interested in the hobby, although she doesn't yet own one, so that is helpful and gives me someone to talk to about them.

    20. Yes, I've met Marine and Bunny(nickname), it was super nice, I am planing on going to DPs. Which I can meet more Owners and dolls. Meeting other owners are such a FUN IDEA!!!o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ
