1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. Yes! To date, I have managed to convert four friends and family members to BJDs. (Victorious fist pump~!) It's wonderful to share something like this with a friend, although of the lot I am by far the most 'into it' and sometimes I imagine eye rolls behind my back when I am too eager to offer my wealth of knowledge. :XD:
(Ahh, whatever, y'all. I'm just happy to photograph your dolls when you bring them around, and I'm always here to make you clothes and take yo babies apart.)

I've met owners at BJD conventions, though sadly I'm not very good at staying in contact with people when they live in another state. It's one thing to spend a con weekend roaming the streets of LA together, but it's another to find things to talk about via impersonal internet window from that point on... I'm also a regular attendee of the local BJD meetups and I adore some of the people I've met through them--I'm friends with some on Facebook and it's great to be able to chatter about dolly things there.

    2. Yes! Most of my really good friends are BJD people. I've been to several doll meets over the years in various places, and it's always fun to meet more people who share interest in the hobby. If I hadn't met people in person and seen their dolls, I probably would have never gotten as involved in the hobby as I am now. It really is a totally different experience when you see these dolls in person, and how many different ways there are to customize and style them.

    3. I have, aside from cons and meetings there was the one time I was shopping for my dolls on a big second hand market, and had a MSD hand with me. I was so surprised when the person who stood beside me started asking me what company and how many dolls I had and told me that she had dolls too. We never met again, but that was a nice encounter.
On my last con, I met people who were afraid of dolls, that was a first for me.

    4. When I got my first I knew no one in the hobby but lucky for me there are a fair few collectors in Melbourne and fairly regular meet-ups. I now know quite a few. It's great to meet others in person and see their dolls. It's also wonderful to talk with others who are just as enthusiastic as you. For anyone not sure do go to a meet-up you will have a good time and meet some new friends to share your hobby:)

    5. No, I've never met another BJD collector. I've never even seen a BJD in person.
Maybe I can convert some people once mine arrive. ;)

    6. Sure. Even back in 2004, after I bought my first bjd, I found out that I knew 4 or 5 people who also had bjds.

I meet other people who know about and are into bjds now and then (not at meetups). I know a lot of artistic types and bjds sometimes over-laps.

And of course I've been going to meetups for nearly 10 years, so I've meet a ton of folks through those. And through doll cons.

    7. Odds are that I've met some BJD-owners before, but if so I'm unaware of it. It would be easier if I knew people already into BJDs--I'm just getting into them and it's a little hard for me to visualize the different sizes judging by photos and measurements alone. (It's one thing to conceptualize something and another to see it.)

    8. Lots of them at meetups! There are many meetups within a 2-3 hour drive of me, so I see them at least a few times a year. I have quite a few doll friends! There's also my cousin, who got into BJDs after seeing mine.

And my friend Molliebean, who I randomly ran into at the post office at lunch one Thursday a few years ago. I was picking up a package of doll clothes, she was at the register beside me and I heard her tell the lady at the counter she was shipping a doll. I was like "A doll? What kind? I have BJDs!" and she said "OMG I have them too!" I was a total spaz, but gave her my DoA username scribbled messily on my business card. We don't get together as often as we'd like, but every time we do we spend hours talking like we've known each other forever. Doll friends are awesome!

    9. Hey Amy! That was funny about the PO. We must have looked like two nuts.
Amy has come over and saved me several times when I was having a BJD catastrophe.... I am sooo glad she lives so close!!!
You must come over and play soon!!! :sweat

    10. My first meeting with a bjd owner was terrible. I randomly saw them at a convention, which was also my first anime convention, who were rude as could be. Not only that there was a woman running a small bjd booth in thedealers room; who was also just add rude as those two girls. You couldn't ask them any questions. That discouraged me for years. That was way back in 2007.

My next encounter was my cousin who had brought a yosd to our house. He was a thing of beauty and she let me touch him. That is when the spark really went off. Then my sister got one too. She was so pretty.
Thanks to them now we three get together and sew clothes or craft things for them.
I run into people at conventions now who are interested in bjds I try to let them hold mine so that they know what they are getting into weight wise and to encourage them to join us.

    11. Unfortunately I have never met a BJD owner in real life ((

    12. Yes I have. And it turns out most of the time, the doll meeting becomes chat meeting with dolls sit beside us only LOL

    13. I have, my aunt is one too :) Besides that, I have a few friends that have bjd too whom I only see at fairs

    14. Never:( BUT that's all going to change come September:aheartbea Very excited for Dollism Plus!

    15. I go to meets a lot, plus I've met dollie owners at DragonCon. And have a friend who owns one (she used to live here but moved). So absolutely, yes.

    16. I got my BJD first. Then went and attended a convention and met everyone else in the country (kidding). The only person I kind of know is the owner of the BJD shop I frequent. I would like to meet more owners but I just don't know anyone else in this country.

    17. My RL friend Elysium actually introduced me to BJD, as she is a collector herself :-)

A few of my RL friends are also into dollies, so we usually see each other at conventions and chat about the hobby for a bit.

    18. I think this is mostly the case too! Some of us might pass by people who are also in the hobby and don't know it. I think we should all totally wear something discreet so we can know and meet other people in the doll hobby. :D

    19. I met up with two bjd dollowners so far.

One because I was buying one of her carrying bags, so we met up at a trainstation, since we both had to go elsewhere and it was the easiest. (Also the cheapest option, cause no shipping costs)

The second one I met up with, was some sort of minimeet. She was really nice and she had so many dolls! She also showed me that my doll could actually sit on her knees and move her upper body. I learned a lot that day. It was fun.

I'm still looking for a bjd owner that lives closer to home though. I would love to meet up more often and actually be friends with one.

    20. I've only met one bjd owner in real life. It was at an anime convention and happened before I got into the hobby. I kind of wish I befriended her when I had the chance.
