1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. I was really fortunate to have by chance meet an owner who helped me discover that the area I live in is crawling with BJD owners!

I'd had my own first doll for over a year and was poking around some shops in olde town where I live looking for some things to finish an outfit for my doll. I was having a hard time finding what I was looking for and had to keep asking some real specific questions trying to avoid the subject that I was looking for stuff for a doll...I was kind of embarrassed because I wasn't initially received well by my family with the doll thing so I avoided telling people. When she finally dragged it out of me what my project was she was soooo excited and telling me 'We have dolls too!!!!'.

Through her husband and herself I found that there were quite a few doll owners in my area and we were even able to start our own club and have meets and such occasionally! I count myself VERY lucky that I've been able to meet so many kind people through BJD's.

    2. No........but I will this next Saturday......I'm so excited !

    3. I have actually ended up working at the same building as another dolly person, she'd bring a doll with her sometimes and this was the workplace I was never without a doll(it kept me from ramming my head through a wall, I did not like call center work), so sometimes there was more than one BJD in the same office building XD
I no longer work there, though, and I can't bring a doll to my other jobs(I don't sit at a desk all day and would have to leave them alone sometimes which I wont risk doing)
But there is someone who stops by my part time job in the mornings sometimes and when I have a new doll I'll bring him in so she can give me feedback on his outfit or wig, etc(she doesn't own BJDs but she does like porcelain dolls and she thinks her daughter would love to have a BJD if she could ever get over the price).
Otherwise I sort of dragged my roommate into the hobby, well, introduced it to her anyways, and we split the price of her first doll(it was supposed to be shared but it ended up fully hers as I still don't get along with female dolls). She now has three! Although she doesn't have them out of their boxes very much.

    4. I have a couple of dolly friends now (huzzah!) that I met pretty recently, maybe about a month ago? And I met a bunch more people at a convention and a convention meet, too. ^^ Before that, though, I hadn't met a single one. I guess it's a pretty niche hobby...

I'm super stoked now, though! Now I have somebody who knows a whole load more about the hobby than I do, and I can ask her questions. ^^ It's super different seeing her doll in real life, too~ She's so pretty +_+ And now I get to fawn over her offline! Lol XD

    5. I actually think this would be an awesome idea. For those who would really love to meet other doll owners. Have a special button or patch that you could put on your clothes or bag, one that's pretty, but subtle.

    6. Yes, I've had the luck to meet other BJD owners ; first of all, it's a friend who made me discover BJD, and she and her girlfriend were BJD owners. I also went to the Paris Fashion Doll Festival in march where I met several BJD owners and artist that I admire a lot. I've been to a doll meeting too. I really like meeting and talking with other people from the hobby, sharing different visions and conceptions of the hobby, talking about the doll we like and want the most... It's really nice and thrilling !
And I also brought another friend into the hobby, she's currently waiting for her first doll !

About a "sign for BJD owners" it could actually be pretty funny and nice !

    7. Nope! Not yet at least. : P

    8. Yes. I got into the hobby thanks to her :D.

    9. My roommate and I both jumped into the hobby at the same time, if that counts! I've also met bjd owners at cons~

    10. Yes!
It has been great, too. Since this is an international forum, I didn't think I would even find anyone in my state to talk to online. Then I noticed Cloaked Schemer was in the same state as me and I also came across Galaxy Shi. From them, I found there were over a dozen active owners in my area. They invited me to a meet and it was wonderful. I've been waiting for awhile for my boy to be made and shipped. In the meantime, I've had so much fun meeting new friends. It has really helped me have patience while I wait.
If you are looking to make some friends in your area, put your location on your profile, or start a meet thread to look for others in your area who have interest. There's a guy who posts videos on youtube, I think he lives in Georgia too. He collects all sorts of dolls including abjds. His youtube user name is stevendyal91. He has mentioned a local doll club.
      Good Luck

    11. No, I don't know any BJD collectors or any general doll/toy collectors for that matter. There are no BJD groups or meet-ups where I live or within a sensible travelling distance. I live in a small coastal town miles from the nearest big city and I don't drive so the chances of my meeting anyone in person who also collects dolls is rather slim. I'm not that bothered though as I can always connect online with other doll enthusiasts if I wish.

    12. I have one in real life and she is my primary schoolmate. She has her first bjd few years ago and my first girl will be arrived before this weekend. So we could share this hobby in the future:whee:

    13. Unfortunately I have not, or if I had I don't know it. Which is such a shame really I would love to meet one in real life.

    14. Yep. That's how I got interested in bjds. :)

    15. Yes! In fact we "met" each other through a doll forum/board for non-BJD dolls and she eventually bought her first BJD a few years ago. She has left the original doll hobby (except for one doll) and now collects BJDS. We became fast friends and have met in person several times, so I got to see her dolls in person. Her collection made me interested in BJDs. We are meeting for lunch this week to talk dolls.

    16. We have a fairly large community here, and I've been to Dollism, so yeah, I've met a lot (I was one of those rowdy Canadians on the balcony during the desert and auction :P) I also conversed the best I could with some owners I ran into at Tenshi no Sato and Doll Show in Japan. The men are always willing to talk to you about their 'daughters' if they have any English language skills at all.

I did get into this hobby originally because of a BJD owning friend, who left the hobby pretty soon after I got into it. But she's recently come back.

    17. I've never met another ball-jointed doll owner in person. The first time I ever saw a BJD in real life was when my first one came back in March. As far as I know, I'm the only one in the immediate area that owns a doll.

    18. When I picked up my first ^^

    19. My childhood friend is my bjd buddy! I took my mnf to a convention once and sadly the only other doll owner I found there was not the nicest human being...

    20. Yep. A friend I met on a non-doll related forum site happens to live in the same state, about 3 hours away, as me. And it turned out that she likes bjds too, so once I got Calli she came down with her boys (dolls) and we hung out for a day.
