1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. I was really surprised to meet a bjd owner at my job she came in with her doll so we couldn't talk much but that was cool my coworker's boyfriend is also a collector that was awesome to find out still haven't been able to meet him but maybe someday and I was actually converted by one of my friends unfortunately I haven't been able to see her dolls in person as she lives far but yes doll people are out there

    2. I know two people who bought bjds after I had known them for a few years each. One stayed in the hobby but one never really got into it. I have only met one person who happened to be into dolls when we met and he is now my boyfriend :D

    3. Lots of them! I love attending to meetups! But I have never seen another doll colector apart from that times and BJD conventions.
It would be really surprising to find someone near me who is a doll collector without me knowing about it.

    4. I don't personally know any doll collectors here in Norway, so I have never had the opportunity to talk with anyone, other than you people on the forum. My wife don't care at all for my dolls, and show no interest at all, so I'm kind of alone with this hobby, for now :( I hope though, that the future could bring new friends and connections here in South Norway.

Another problem is my age and gender. I am a 42 year old male, so it's natural that I prefer another male, at my same age, to connect with.. But it seems that most of you people are young, and often females - my wife would kill me if I had a female friend..
And especially a young one :o:wiggle:x hehehe

    5. I have had the priviledge of meeting doll collectors, but I'm not friends with them, unfortunately. :(

    6. I've been to 2 doll panels at SD ComicCon and met people, I made several friends when I went to the SD BJD Convention, and I went to a doll meet a couple weeks ago with friends. My sister and roommate are also interested in the hobby, my sister's first bjd (a Minifee Risse) is on the way from Denver Doll!

    7. Yes, bless! I have two friends I recently met up with in my county, and one of them brought her friend who isn't on here but just recently got into BJDs. I also go to every con I can! They're so much fun. And recently I got my mom into the hobby, which is AWESOMEEEE~!

    8. Haven't met one yet, but hopefully I can attend a meetup in my city one day!

    9. I met a BJD owner before I met a BJD! My friend Amie introduced me to her doll, and I was like, "MUST HAVE, GASP!" I am part of a doll group centered around Indianapolis, (Though I live out in the boonies in Brown County, Indiana). Doll meets are so much fun! People who talk to who GET IT! If there are any BJD owners in my area, please contact me, I would really like local more doll people to hang out with.

    10. I don't often attend meetups, but I've been lucky enough to have other BJD owners as friends throughout the years. It's nice to be able to spend time with those who share your hobbies~ ♥

    11. When I got my first doll, I didn't know anyone else in the hobby and had never been to a meet. Later, I discovered that the head of our school's science fiction club liked BJDs but didn't have any of her own. It wasn't until about a year and a half in that I went to a meet up. One of my friends, who I hadn't seen in three years, suddenly told me she wanted a doll and didn't even know I had them. We spent a good amount of time handling mine and she now has her own, along with another friend of mine who I introduced to the hobby.

    12. This! Can we make this happen? I would totally wear something to let people know I was in this hobby. Cause I know there are people walking around who are shy and don't talk about this hobby with others.

    13. My two good friends are bjd owners: Arszenikk and Eff17. Both of them are very into this hobby. ;)
Also, I've attended some meet ups here in Poland, so I got to know some more people. :3nodding: It's great to have someone who is interested in same things. Especially, when your boyfriend wants to kill you every time you mention dolls.. xD I was able to talk about them for almost whole day, so it's understandable ;P

    14. My best friend is in the hobby, and she took me to a doll meet in the area.

    15. So im from Greece and i've met isoenatte, nekomuchuu and three more ^^. We hanged before three weeks but im close with isoenatte the most, she is areally great person and i love her dolls! They are all amaizing artists and great people! Im really glad i met them :3nodding::sumomo:

    16. I can't say I have, but I would love to meet one someday! I might even try to go to meetup in the future, seems like it could be fun :)

    17. I have never knowingly met a bjd owner, but suspect that I do know people who enjoy them. I am under the impression that this is not a hobby that is spoken of much publicly. I suppose that as time goes by, this will change.
The idea of something worn so we can identify each other, is a good one. Permanent tattoos are out for a lot of us, but options might be a henna design on the hand, a piece of jewelry is is also an alternative.

I did not realize that so many males were into this hobby, but if you think about it, it makes sense. The original dolls were first created by a designer in a company that made and sold models of cars, planes, action figures to primarily males of all ages. Slipping in a superior product in the hopes of garnering the female market was the next logical step. I thought I also heard somewhere that the original French fashion dolls were collected by men.

Maybe with an identifier men will be able to more easily meet others who enjoy this hobby. Think of it as art collecting.

    18. I have never met a BJD owner in real life, and I don't know if I'd purposely go out of my way to do so. But it would be really cool if I found out someone I knew liked or owned BJDs!

Closest thing I've experienced, was telling someone (back in grade school) that I liked BJDs. Their response was "Oh, those creepy looking dolls? Their eyes freak me out!" lol. Not in a negative way. They were fairly neutral and just didn't personally like them.

    19. I never met one in real-life its just me and my sister I'm trying to get my friend to join

    20. No... but I will soon at a doll show I'm going too in the coming week! :D
