1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. Most definitely I have. I actually purchased my first doll 10 years ago from a local collector, and thus got some hands-on advice from her in person. It was great. And yes, I've not only met fellow bjd owners but managed to pull my best friend into the hobby and have had overnight visits from another one. I managed to catch a couple of really fantastic meetups in the Denver area when I was first in the hobby, but haven't been to any recently.

    2. Yes! A few actually, one of them happens to be my partner, and I remember going into her room and almost squeeing, I've also seen a couple at the conventions I go to.

    3. A few of years back I sold a camera on Craig's List and the woman that bought it showed up with a Volks in her car. She took pics of it to try out the camera. She apparently rode around with him all the time. That was the first time I'd met someone live. I was just on DOA then and was still investigating which doll I wanted so it was nice finally seeing one in person. She did not want to hang out though. There's no BJD club here.

Someone on here from here recently tried to set up a meeting but they chose a spot I could not go to for health reasons. It was very close actually but the meeting was outside in the sun and heat and I just could not attend. I can't be outside that long even when it's fairly mild for here. Autoimmune thing, being outside for long can really make me ill. As it turned out the meeting was canceled. I was sad to see that even though I could not attend. Just the idea that someone was trying to have a BJD meet up here was cool.

Otherwise you have to drive a couple of hours each way to attend one and I can't do that. There are some in the middle of the state but I just can't do those. Too far for me to drive because of the health thing.

    4. No, but I did convert one friend of mine, and then I went to convert another friend, and discovered that he already liked BJDS! He doesn't own any though. I also had the chance to visit one of the Volks showrooms when I lived in Japan - while I didn't meet anyone there, it was my first time seeing dolls in real life that weren't mine or my friend's.

    5. no :) and i do not make any attempt to meet one :) i love to be special :)

    6. Yes! My sister! Lol she actually bought me my first bjd.. I think that counts right? If we're talking about random people though, then it'd be a no..

    7. At conventions I have met people that made wonderful custom bjds, they were very kind!

    8. I have never met any bjd owners. I live too far away from any doll meets, but have a few friends online

    9. Absolutely! We met due to an event for other dolls, but we both have bjds which we love.

    10. I have met a few at anime conventions
It's always fun to run into others that share the same interest as you ^_^

    11. I was actually introduced to BJD's by my friend, who I had no idea owned ball jointed dolls until she whipped out a BJD head she recently did a face-up for. Other than her, I know no other BJD owners.

    12. Yes! And she encouraged me to buy my first... and the next and so on...

    13. My two best friends are BJD collectors. In fact one of them sold me the two dolls I have now. I would not be here now if not for them :thumbup

    14. Not yet. I'll probably meet my first at the Atlanta BJD Convention in November.

    15. The only one I knew personally that is a BJD owner is ZhyKrys. Not sure if she's here on DoA or what her user name is. We knew each other since highschool. I was a year older than her. I was already into BJD when I found out she was into it too. It pushed me to really start saving up for a doll of my own.

    16. Beyond con meetups, I've met people who are aware of the hobby. I've had people tell me that they'd love to own BJDs but lack the ability to, either financially or space wise.
I look forward to the day someone comes up to me, having noticed Mirai on my shoulder, and says that they're in the hobby as well. It'd be nice to have someone local, or at least reasonably so.

    17. Nope, never! Not that I know of, anyway.

    18. I have not met anyone yet, doll collecting seems almost exclusive to where I live at the moment. I hope in the future I'll meet some folks.

    19. Aside from my friend I just recently got into the hobby? This year for the first time, at a local con (the only one I can go to orz), there was a bjd stand- not much, just a glass displaybox with three minifees and an aod sd girl, but I got so excited I started chatting with the owners - they were thrilled too to not be the only ones in our area XD sadly they weren't on facebook nor tumblr nor here on doa so I couldn't keep in contact with them.

    20. I meet two at a convention and after seeing their dolls I got one of my own, It took three years but I got two of my friends to buy bjds of their own and three other people to really really want them :P
