1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever met a BJD owner in real life?

Jun 17, 2014

    1. So lucky

    2. I went to ACEN earlier this year and there was an entire booth for BJDs! I met a couple of owners (and a TON of dolls) there.

    3. What is ACEN?

    4. I've met up with a couple collectors I originally met here. And I have an old high school friend who is active in the hobby.

    5. The first bjd doll owner I met was my daughter! She got me into the hobby. She met someone who had bjds and that led to several doll meets which were a lot of fun. Together we have also met bjd owners at doll shows - both vendors and attendees. It was so interesting to see all the different dolls they brought with them.

    6. I have never met one in real life and I'm not sure if I would. I just live too far away from the closest BJD group. Perks of living in a small town :doh

    7. I got into the hobby only after meeting several BJD owners irl at a multi-fandom convention.

    8. I've been to a meetup, and I've met people who wanted to get into the hobby and were interested. I got one of my friends into the hobby too. So I've met my fair share of fellow collectors. :3

    9. i have met a lot of bjd owner irl

    10. I haven't. I always think about it though. Like if I met someone I think about bringing up BJDs and how amazing it would be if they told me they have one too, but I'm sure it would be extremely rare. I want to meet someone who has one that I don't know online, I would squeal like a little girl haha

    11. Yes, I have two friends in the real life who are playing dolls as well..

    12. I was the first in my first close circle of friends to buy a doll. I managed to get my friend in the hobby buy entering her into a raffle and buying a few tickets. She luckily won! Now our dolls meet up and are the best of friends!

    13. The reason I joined this hobby is because I liked a girl that owned one, so yes. xD I also went to a doll meet twice with her. They where very informal and we were all teens hanging out at the hosts house. Me and one other girl spent time with the dolls and the others played DDR and such. Most of them didn't seem as interested in the hobby, so it wasn't as fun... I was also very shy back then, so the loud games and jokes sort of made me withdraw even more. I did enjoy meeting their dolls, but I don't really feel like I got to know them.

Other then that no. However I think I finally got my mother hooked! She is thinking of getting one now! : D

    14. One of my mom's coworkers is a BJD owner. She (the coworker) almost brought one of her dolls to work in order to show my mom but for some reason never followed through on it. Missed opportunity, because I'd really like to get to know her and her dolls one day.

    15. I first found out about BJD either online on Deviantart, or from seeing people with them at a local anime convention- I don't remember which came first. But now I know people in my local doll community and we have meets every so often. Other than that, I met a girl who was a little older than me at the library and we got to talking about anime and she was like, "do you like... Dollfies?" So OF COURSE I was like omg yes and started talking a mile a minute, and she may have been a bit overwhelmed. I remember her saying they were really expensive and she probably couldn't afford/justifiably spend the money on them and I was like "just save up and get one!", which I realize now may have not been so considerate. I'm not sure if they were actually more than a curiosity for her, like expensive hobbies/collectors items can be to some people. I forgot to ask for her email, so I'll probably never see her again, but it was still pretty cool to have BJD come up in casual conversation. The people in my meetup group are for the most part awesome, but lately I haven't had much luck with being able to get to meetups due to location and timing issues... mostly weather lately. Ah well.

I brought my first doll to fabric stores a couple times, but not so much anymore. So who knows if I'll be that "random BJD encounter" for someone else, but it would be pretty cool to meet more crazy doll people! :D

    16. Yes! I've been to a doll meetup near me and also to several conventions where I saw people with BJDs. :D It's so wonderful getting to see other people's dolls in person!

    17. Yes, my best friend is a bjd owner and she got me into the hobby.

    18. I have gotten to meet a few people from Arizona'd FB BJD group which is really nice. I do have a friend who I've known since high school who's been in the hobby for a very long time and helped me learn it when I started getting into it :)

    19. I haven't had an opportunity to meet a BJD owner yet in real life but I am hoping maybe now through this community that it might actually happen!

    20. I have never met a BJD owner in real life too.... but I have many friends own BJD and we connect via FB or other chat tools.
