1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Eye Putty to stay or take out?

Jun 8, 2023

    1. You're welcome! I do say I have never SEEN it damage a doll, but knowing what I know about polymer clay (over 20 years of using the stuff) I just don't see it as a resin safe long term option.

    2. I never changed out the eyes before so I can't say how he looked when I first got him, but it does look a little messy in there compared to my new doll's head.

    3. That might just be down to differences in casting (and possibly the glue holding the eyelashes in?) making the sockets of the older head look less smooth and tidy - the internal finish can vary hugely from company to company, I find.

So long as you've got all of the polymer clay out you shoudl be fine

    4. I’ve never put much thought into it lol, once I put a pair of eyes in with my poster tak, I forget that I did it lol. Object permanence is crazy

    5. Does anyone know what the eye putty is that DDE sells? Is that the white tack stuff or? I need to eventually get some new eye putty and I was looking at that as an option.

    6. You can get a large thing of white tack on Amazon for under $10, I’ve had mine for 2 years and used on over 25 dolls.

    7. Thanks! Although, I'm still curious if anyone knows what it is exactly that DDE is selling as well.

    8. That polymer clay stuff can also cause acrylic eyes to crack if they are left in there for a long time!

Took out one of my dolls that I hadn't changed the eyes of out from storage after a few years and one of the acrylic eyes were cracked. Didn't suspect the eye putty at first, then someone else here on DoA posted about their doll's acrylic eyes cracking after a few years. They also hadn't removed the original eyes or the factory eye putty and another member explained that polymer clay can react to acrylic over time.

    9. From my experience, it is exactly the same.

    10. Thanks!

    11. I second the Bostik BluTack, specifically the very light blue color variant. I've had it sitting in my doll's head to secure the urethane eyes and no issues after 10+ years. It can be removed easily for eye changes and does not leave a stain on the resin. :thumbup

    12. The only time I take the putty out is if I am changing the eyes, and I never put my dolls away.
they are always out on display.

    13. I tend to change out or reposition eyes pretty frequently, tbh! I'm also team sticky tack for that, since I use urethane eyes in all of my dolls. I've also used kneadable erasers and they're great for it, too, if less sticky - but as an art student, they worked in a pinch!
