It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Face-up on your First doll; Brave Enough?

Aug 7, 2007

?
  1. Yeah, I would do it.

  2. Nah, i'm too nervous.

  3. I would but I think the default or someone else could do better than anything I could think up.

  4. The Default always looks the best anyway.

    1. Yup I did, and I'm proud of her:3nodding:
My first and only is a Volks Elena (<- avator), she's a basic model so she's meant for me to redo her faceup. I was very nervous at first, but as long you are able to control the thickness of the paint, it's not that hard. Just go thin on the paint, and light blushing. I only did her faceup once and I am happy with it (thank god!). The only problem I had was removing the faceup, it took me 2 hrs!!! :|...

    2. Way way too nervous. I'd like to make her look a little less aggressive, but it'll be a while before I muster up the courage I'm sure :)

    3. nk-chan - Thanks for the information! I'll have to see if I can find the threads with pencils.

    4. I have, with Anju (my avatar). Actually by the nature of Anju, I didn't really have a choice as Volks only sells blank Dollfie Dream heads regularly and I didn't know nor trust anyone to send her head to get done for me. But She was a good starting platform, and I eventually worked up the bravery to do the face of my second doll who was a limited edition that I couldn't afford to get the faceup on at the time.

    5. I'm planning to do my first face up on my doll but the only problem I have is how much msc are you suppose to put on so it doesn't have any problems with flaking off???;;; I know its between layers but exactly how much would you spray.. I personally think the only way to get better at them is to practice them yourself. :I

    6. I'm going to buy the default face up for the doll I like (Island Doll, Ellie), but it's a little plain. Therefore, I think I will try to edit it a little by adding bottom eyelashes. This way, the doll still looks good and I still get to practice.

    7. Go for it, it really isn't difficult to do a decent face-up, the really incredible air brushed ones you see the pros doing obviously take a lot of practice and talent, but I always do my own and have been really happy with all bar one of the results (we'll just pretend that one never happened!). I have heard some people say the resin gets stained by wiping face-ups but I've never experienced that, so if something goes wrong, just carefully wipe it off and start again.

Chalk pastels and watercolour pencils are very easy to use and also wipe off really easily with remover, no matter how much MSC you use, weras acrylic paint is harder to wipe. Does come off though! Maybe try with pastels first until you get used to painting on something 3D? Good luck, I'm sure you will be really glad you chose this route :)

    8. The thought of me doing my own faceup on my first doll terrifies me!! I don't think I'd ever be able to do it, I'm just too nervous. 0.0

    9. My original plan was to do my own face up on my first, but when I was doing some research on it I couldn't find much information on doing face ups on a tan doll specifically.
I was way too nervous and ended up ordering a custom face up.
I got exactly what I wanted and still am very glad I got it done :3
Every other doll I've gotten (and plan on getting) I do myself, but he was the one exception.
I don't generally like default face ups since they rarely suit the character I'm going for, plus doing them myself is more fun and rewarding.
Needless to say, I'm no longer nervous, haha
I've even been playing with body blushing and tattoos lately

Doing your own face up isn't as terrifying as many people think it to be :) Just need some research, the right materials, and to just go at it. I know the first time is a bit nerve wracking, but I actually did my first face up before I even got a doll. My friend let me give it a go on her first doll and everything went well.
Just have fun with it :3

    10. For my first doll I also decided to just do the face-up myself. I had everything I needed for it at hand and just went to work :P Can't really say I was nervous for it. I disliked the factory face-up, while nice enough it just wasn't what I was looking for and a custom face-up would have been pricey for something I could potentially do myself. Though I was quite pleased with the outcome at the time, I recently redid her face-up, in the same colours and such as the first one (I wanted her to remain the same, but better :P ). So yeah, I was brave enough :)

    11. i had planned to do koda's ( my first doll/ kdf ani) faceup my self but i dicided against it last minute. when i got him though, i ended up taking off the face up and doing it over myslef less then three days afetr is arival. a total waste of $60. so if you think you can handle it, i say go for it. ^^

    12. i'm torn personally. I want to do the faceup but I would mess it up. guess i need to practice.

    13. i would be sooo nervious...but i would be able to say that i faced up her face with my own two hands... = D

    14. I did my first face up, and I'm pretty happy with the painting job I did, except it starting chipping off almost right away. Don't know if it had something to do with how I sealed it or what.
I wish I had known more about applying makeup before I did it though, because I think I could do a much better job now, than I did before.

    15. i'm pretty sure i'll do faceup on my first doll. i'm good with makeup, drawing etc., so i'm confident.

    16. My first doll came with a free faceup promotion lol. But actually if he didn't, I am likely to get the default faceup for the first doll. So that it can act as some sort of RL reference for doing faceup on my future dolls.

    17. It really depends on how his default face-up turns out I guess. I've herd a few horror stories coming from the AoD dolls and if my Wang Zi's is a bit on the scary side, I suppose I'll give it a go.

Already got a few ideas in mind but I'm lacking the equipment, if not the ability, at the moment.

I'm terribly nervous already, and checking the order page every five minutes to see whether they've sent him yet even though it's only been a week.... >_>

    18. Yeah i did her face up, it wasn't too much difficult, I was nervous really nervous but I couldn't pay her default face up, and my mom neither (she didn't wanted to spend too much money on her) because it was a present for my birthday, so I did her face up, the first time i wasn't happy with it, not a lot so 5 months lather I changed it, the 2nd that i really like it, you gain experience practicing and now she has a 3rd face up and personal this is the best one i've ever made now.

    19. Not only would I do it I did do it, in fact it is only in the past year that I have purchased any doll sthat had faceups and they will eventually change as well. Not only that but I modded my first doll on the day I got him out of the box!

    20. Just did the faceup on my first last night, actually. ^_^ Her previous owner had given her one, but that faceup was for a polite upper crust lady, not a reality-warping mad scientist, so I wiped it and gave her a new one. I had to wipe the eyelashes a couple times, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

One thing I recommend though is to do some research before plunging in--not just how to, but go idea hunting. It's fun to see how much of a difference little variations can make, and it'll give you a better idea of what to do to get the look you want.
