1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Face-up on your First doll; Brave Enough?

Aug 7, 2007

?
  1. Yeah, I would do it.

  2. Nah, i'm too nervous.

  3. I would but I think the default or someone else could do better than anything I could think up.

  4. The Default always looks the best anyway.

    1. I didn't do my first doll's faceup because I was really nervous. even though I'm really realyl artsy and already had most of the things needed, except the MSC...lol

But I sent her off, tried on my second doll, never got it right, I ended up selling her, a little whiloe ago, but my third doll, my boy I sent off because I didn't trust myself. My 4th doll I did and I've done most of my own now and have my own shop open. I dunno it took ALOT of practice with ALOT of different dolls before I felt ready and professional. I had to do some really horrid faceups before getting better and go through alot of Acrylic Brush cleaner, haha...

But yo uget better and then you're pleased. it really not that hard, it just takes a good long time to get into the groove and get comfortable with what you're doing, like what order you do things in and how much blushing and stuff...

    2. I'm saving for my first doll... I'm nowhere near being close to buying it... but it gives me time to decide on whether or not I want to do the face up.. I think I'd be too nervous.. but it's very tempting to just take a whack at it and see how it goes. :>

    4. Heh, not sure I'd have been brave enough to do a faceup on my very first doll. I suppose it depends on what kind of research is done beforehand. I'd think learning what not to do would be a good first step (ie: sharpie faceups, hot glue mishaps, glitter paint, oil paints, ect). Looking through tutorials (made by people who actually know what they're doing) and making sure to use the right materials would be the best way to start I think.

    5. i did the face-up on my first doll, bobobie isabella, and it turned out not too bad for a first attempt.

this was before i got brave and had a small enough paintbrush to do bottom lashes tho. i used prismacolor pencils for the brows. i have finally stopped using pencils and switched over to paint and brushes for the lashes and brows. if you have a steady hand it turns out a lot better!

    6. Not on my first doll but the second doll I plan on doing the faceup myself, plus the faceup doesn't look too much of a challenge 6u6 plus it looks like fun!

    7. If you feel you will be able to do it, why not give it a try? Even if first try will be a failure, next should give better effects. Practice makes your skills better :)

    8. I actually did do my face up on my first doll (took 3 tries to finally get it perfect).

All of my dolls, I order blank. These dolls are all about representing characters I've worked years developing, so I'm not going to settle for the default face-up. Plus, I'm an artist. I know how to handle the materials; and if I don't, I learn from trial and error.

    9. I actually bought a cheap spare head a while back just so I could try it out.

Meh. It was alright for a first try. :P

    10. On my first doll i did get his face-up redone, not by myself though. His a Bobobie so the default face-up was kinda bland. I do not regret ever getting a new one for him. Now he looks better then ever. :D But I don't know if i could ever do a face-up on him myself though. I'm too nervous. lol

    11. No, I have no guts at all!!! But who knows may be after sometimes I will..........

    12. That's what I did. <3
It was fun and for me, it helped me to bond with him and made the attachment even stronger. :D

    13. Yea, I painted my first doll, my best friend insisted that I will be very good at faceups. My first attempt was less than stellar, but after going through a couple of faceups, I feel my work is competent enough now. :)

    14. Nope! I'm a coward. XD But maybe one day, I've been thinking about it for awhile now so I might just try it.

    15. I think I'm going to do the face up on my second or third doll for practice but I saw my Doll and she was perfect the way she is I couldn't bare to change it :o

    16. For my very first doll i admit that i got a default face up :) I think if i had been a member of DoA longer and had done more research I would have attempted to face up my first doll, but at the time everything was so new, and i really didnt know much about the resources here.

I do however have confidence that if i had the resources i probably would have faced up my first doll myself. :) My lovely aria became my first face up doll. ^__^ that being said I will still send out for a face up too if i feel i want a certain style i just cant get :3

    17. I did the faceups for my first two dolls and my friends doll at the same time. This was only after half a year of research into painting and customising dolls though. I only had difficulties with the eyebrows and then my second doll becuase his face stained faster than the other two.

    18. I probably would do a face up since I've been learning art for about 9 years. But you're really brave *-* Since I'm pretty new to BJD's this might be incorrect but, I think that if you mess up on the face up, you can always wipe it off and start over. ^^

      Good luck~~~

    19. Did the faceups on my first two (they came together) and all but three of the 24-and-two-heads that have followed. It's my favourite part of the hobby. I wasn't worried about making mistakes; I expected to make mistakes! Good thing it's not too hard to wipe them and try again..and again... and again!

    20. I voted: Yes, I'd do it.

The reason is because I'm going for a particular look. Not just this, but I'm used to 2D art & want to get the feel of 3D art!

On my 2D works, my main motif is always people, especially the face & hair. I don't know why, but I just find so much beauty in humans! :D
