1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Face-up on your First doll; Brave Enough?

Aug 7, 2007

?
  1. Yeah, I would do it.

  2. Nah, i'm too nervous.

  3. I would but I think the default or someone else could do better than anything I could think up.

  4. The Default always looks the best anyway.

    1. I did the faceup on my first doll, I wanted to. And it was HIDEOUS. Of course it was, I had never practiced before. and since then, a year and a half later, that doll has had countless more faceups with each one better than the last by far! It can be scary at first but its the practice that turns you into a wonderful faceup artist!

    2. I just posted my first face up on the Mirodoll forum. Yes it's frightening and not the best, but I think the more I do, I agree, the better they will get. Well here's hoping anyway! Lol

    3. I have done my own face ups from day one. It is part of the hobby for me.
My first ones were bad, my later ones were better, one day I will probably even become good. But having someone else do them for me wouldn't be the same, even if a professional face up artist would do a much better job.

    4. I agree Lillith. It is part of the hobby for me too. I invested in the materials before my dolls arrived and You-tubed as much as I could find. My dolls won't look as good as if I had professionals do them but I know what you mean, by how much more personal they are.

    5. I'll definitely doing that my own, beside with practice you could only get better lol! Tho I'm planning to get extra head besides start collecting the basic materials now.

    6. I invested in a practice head a good few months before I purchased my first BJD, so that when he arrived I would have the experience I needed to face him up. Because of the practice I put in, his current faceup looks pretty good! Maybe with more practice I could learn to do even better >.< Only time will tell, I suppose~

    7. I would've never dared to do the face-up on my first doll. I know myself pretty well and I know that it would've looked ridicolous. So I rather pay a little extra amount of money to the company than end up with a doll I am not happy with. To me, photographie is the part of the hobby that is the most fun so I rather stick to that than to face ups.

    8. Finally got around to giving it a try. I had 3 blank dolls and a practice head, so I just did them all at once along with the hoof/leg parts of two of my dolls. I don't have photos of all the finished dolls, still waiting for the gloss on the hoof parts to dry.

Here is one pic, there are more in the face up album on my flickr.

    9. No, I'm too nervous to try it on my first doll. I would like to do it eventually, but I'll also try to keep the default faceup for as long as possible (that's the plan for the moment anyway). I do love to look at other people's faceups, there are so many talented people on here and I'm always amazed how much a different faceup can change a doll's look.

    10. Actually I would try but... without knowing if it will work out (and it won't at first... I am pretty perfectionist and harsh on flaws) I don't think I should buy all the stuff to do it and then find out it's not made for me. I think it is cheaper to commission. Unless someone really will enjoy it as a process, or doesn't need the first dolls as "perfect" as I would like mine, of course.

    11. My first doll would come with an event head so I will practice on it before I move onto my doll's face....I am hoping to make a presentable first faceup ;_; I am nervous but it really looks fun! And I love doing makeup on me and other people~ also doing own faceups was one of the main things that interests me in this hobby! ^_^

    12. I order "Face up" with my first doll, because I am too nervous to make he break. ( My first son!!! ><")
but I order other head no face up with my first doll.
....and I break it in real. T T

    13. Yeah, I would - that is, I did. I've done all my dolls' faceups except for the one I got off the MP who came with a gorgeous company faceup.

    14. Heck yeah I did it! Took a few tries though. Fortunately, it was simple enough to clean off. Now that I think of it. I don't think I've had a single faceup that I didn't at least redo partially.

    15. Ehehehehe when I've ordered first doll, I was such a scaremonger xd I've ordered doll with makeup service (even if I didn't like it) simply because at that time few years ago I had no idea that was even possible to paint the doll

    16. My first doll came with one head with face-up and one blank. I did the face-up on the blank head without even thinking about it. No videos or tutorials or anything--I just thought "this doll has no face! Better put one on there!" It's not the best face-up ever, but I absolutely adore her! Doing a doll's face-up for the first time is definitely a bonding experience~

    17. As a matter of fact, my first bjd, a Resin Soul Feng, came with a factory face-up, but I decided to wipe it away and give him a face-up. Even now I have kept the face-up I gave him because it was my very first.

    18. I actually did do my first dolls face up, I had to find out what to use so I didn't ruin her. Then after I got better I redid it.

    19. I'm buying a practice head before I attempt a faceup on a more expensive doll hahah~ But after that, when I do buy a full doll I think I will do the faceup for it since the creativity you can put into a doll's faceup is one of the main things drawing me into this hobby

    20. when I decided to buy my first doll that was because I loved the way her face up look like with the cute freckles, I didn't also had enough experience about the tools and supplies I need to use to paint her face up so I ordered her with face up
