1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Face-up on your First doll; Brave Enough?

Aug 7, 2007

?
  1. Yeah, I would do it.

  2. Nah, i'm too nervous.

  3. I would but I think the default or someone else could do better than anything I could think up.

  4. The Default always looks the best anyway.

    1. Thank you :) I was going to get mine from the Volks online store but I'm not sure what to do now lol, can you use ordinary acrylics then? haha sorry for the questions!

    2. I painted my first BJD.....*cough* it turned out horrible. I recked the head so after a few months I got a new one which is still unpainted.....I have to give the head to my friend so she can do the face up. Doing face ups are scary I salute those who do them!

    3. You are scaring me now lol, perhaps I shall play safe and get the default as my first lol  either that or may get in lots of practice beforehand :)

    4. I love how my doll looks with the default face up, but I know eventually it's gonna come off... I dread having to remove the bloody head and send it off somewhere, so I'll probably do it myself >.<

    5. aww id love to have a go, but im always really scared il screw it up, lol, i know u can jus restart but knowing me id screw it up completly and ruin the doll, lol,

    6. I had no choice but to change my first's face. when he came to me, he was painted up every girlishly. not that the face was bad it was quite lovely but my boy was a boy......I wasn't nervous, I've read up on how to do face-ups and looked at a whole bunch of pics of my favorite faces.

    7. Where can you read up on how to do them? I have seen a video on youtube but not an actual guide. Also if you don't mind me asking, what items do you need to do a simple face up?
      Thanks :)

    8. Haha no way. Before I got my first doll, I'd barely even touched BJD's. He only recently arrived, so I'm still not entirely used to them. I'm not even brave enough to restring him.

I'm figuring that by the time I get my second doll, I'll be used to my first enough to not worry as much. Then I'd definitely try my hand at doing a faceup :) I'm even planning to for my second doll, which I may get in the somewhat distant future xD

    9. There are some AWESOME guides over in the painting and aestetics(sp XD) forum. A few really really good step by step guides, and threads all over the place that'll tell you everything you need to know =D

....i may be lurking there soon with a notebook in tote as i think i'm ordering a floating head today XD so i'll have something to play with and practice on XD

    10. Yepyep ^^ The first thing I did to my first doll was to give him a face up. It didn't turn out good, but that didn't stop me. It's fun and it feels great when you manage to do something correctly after some practising :)

    11. I did it on a head I got for free and did a few on that. My second one I did faceups on him and I got better at them, and now I have 3 dolls with faceups by me ^^.

    12. I painted my baby, it came out..okay, not so great -_-; but atleast I'm learning now!

    13. No way. I'd be scared to death.

Actually, I AM scared to death. My MSD is coming without a faceup (not my idea, it's to save monay X.X;;;), and I have no idea what to do. D':

    14. I would probably MELT the poor thing.:sweat

    15. I did, and like pretty much every one else...it was AWFUL! I had really crappy materials and I was very afraid. I also didn't have anything to seal her with so it was really light because I was too afraid of staining her. Since then, I have done all of her face-ups myself and I'm really happy with how much better they have gotten. It's a great experience for the person who really wants to be hands-on with their dolls =D

    16. I'm going to do the face-up on my first big doll ( only have 1 10 cm tiny now XD)

I already have everything I need except sealer... cous I draw a lot I have tons of crayons and paint and pencils XD so it's more like a natural choice. also becous I think I would bond better with her, and I dont like the factory face up for the full 100% and just becous it looks like fun :D

    17. I already did. I got him default, liked it, but felt it didn't totally suit his character. First few faceups were horrendous, but I eventually got better. His current faceup was done by a friend and its fabulous so I've been protecting it carefully. That said, I really like some of the default faceups on my dolls. Of the six, two have completely new faceups, two have completely default faceups, one has only had the lips changed, and the other, my FCS, has been slightly touched up because sadly his faceup got damaged.

My FCS is the only one I'm concerned about doing much with partly because I love the faceup, but also because he's a tan doll.

    18. Hey, me too! I'm getting my first doll here shortly and I already know I don't like his default faceup so I'm going to try myself. The worst I think can happen is that I'll need to send him off to get someone else to do it but honestly I can't do worse if I already don't like what he comes with. ^^ I'd say go for it!

    19. Heh nooo I'm too scared to do a full on face up. I think I can manage with doing touch ups to the already there face up but not doing my own ^_^;

    20. Maybe one day... But right now, no. N.O. >.> If I don't like a face up, I find willing artists and pay them. I've got two with custom face ups, and both of them are gorgeous ^^ I will probably just send my El head back to Luts to have them redo the default face up, 'cause I like it :)
