Fairyland MiniFee MNF discussion part 67

Oct 15, 2021

    1. I finished the faceup on my Lookback Shiwoo today. I put him on the DF-h 35cm body. I think he is adorable.

    2. I personally like the model legs but I am definitely in the minority. I think the cutie legs are too curvy and sometimes look bent. Most people like the cutie legs better.

    3. I prefer model legs too. I have dolls with both and overall, they both work. I just like the straighter legs modestly better.

    4. I suspect those of us who prefer the model legs just don't speak up about it much. LOL

    5. Based on the pictures I dislike the look of the cutie legs and keep wondering why those weirdly bend legs are more popular than the perfectly good straight ones. :sweat when I first started looking into Minifee pictures I genuinely thought that those had to be recasts since everyone always talked about how especially the misshapen legs are a sure way to recognize them. I thought that there was no way the legs were actually supposed to look like that so imagine my surprise when I realized that they really look like that in the company pictures too. I only have one girl with Moe body and actually aren't too in love with its legs either, they don't look as badly bend as the cutie legs but still more wonky than I'd prefer. I really should just keep looking for a body from some completely different company to put my Honoka head on since I generally speaking don't exactly love Minifee bodies.

I guess that's pretty controversial opinion since it seems that most people consider Minifee body the greatest of all the bodies out there and I see people saying it's one of the best posers and I just don't understand the hype, I've never had as bad time with any other body as I do with my Minifee one and that includes some single jointed bodies I own. Really the only perk of it to me are the magnetic hands & feet since they make swapping them easy but even that, while nice, isn't something I couldn't live without. :sweat

Sorry this turned into a negative rant. I like a lot of the Minifee heads though and I'm amazed by their mermaids and centaurs parts, what gorgeous creatures those are! And I still love looking at pictures of them and seeing how people style their dolls. I guess summed up I like these dolls on pictures but not that much as something to own myself.

    6. I like both leg styles. What I like about the cutie legs is that they have "more meat on their bones". Like a lot of real life people. I like that about their arms too. A lot of other companies have "noodle arms" lol But the model legs still look realistic. Plus they give the illusion of being taller. I have only cutie leg bodies currently but I want model leg version for my Alice Madness Returns homage doll. Her game character is very thin so a cutie bust, model leg would be perfect!

As for overall posing, for me Minifee/Fairyland has been the best. Expect for sitting on their knees, which they can't do. I've tried Soul Doll, Doll Leaves, Doll Chateau, and a few artist dolls. All of them the arms do not hold a pose well. They just fall or snap to her sides. MYou did well but I only had a tiny, so not sure about 1/4th scale. And has someone who changes doll outfits frequently (I like to sew for them) the magnet hands are appreciated. It's such a nightmare putting my DC's jointed fingers through a sleeve lol

    7. I'm not in a position to comment about the girl's legs, since I only own boy minifee so far. But I support the fact that they are a good poser, maybe not the best but still very good. (My charm doll girl is very impressive in holding pose too, and she can sit on her knees, so if I'm counting that, she win)

Judging from the looks of two legs, I think it's purely aesthetic. I've heard once that the model legs pose better, but can't find any evidence or comparison thread. Maybe it just a rumor? :?

    8. From my experience (and I'm really not trying to stir the pot right now don't come at me, just respectfully posting an opinion) an awful lot of the people who think Fairyland has the "best" posing have not a ton of experience with other dolls and they're sort of an entryway doll to the hobby for a lot of people too. Most Fairyland dolls don't pose well - they just don't. They have single jointed knees and strangely engineered joints that don't do much, they can't bend at very many angles and they're kind of a pain. The lack of posing and awkward bodies are what keep me away from the company more than anything else (and I have a lot of experience with their dolls)

That being said, they LOOK of them posing is very smooth and natural compared to other dolls. So I think people get the two conflated very often or we aren't defining the word "best" in the same way. Some people care about the way it looks, some people care about certain poses, angles, stability, etc and some people don't care about certain things. This is the conclusion I've made after 10 years in the hobby and much much experience with different dolls, FL and doll owners.

I wish minifees were easier to hybrid, because I really don't like the bodies. The awkwardly shaped legs are not only strange to look at, but they make it difficult for them to stand in their own heels sometimes xD My Dina constantly buckles at her knees because of the leg shape and shoes after wiring and sueding and all that too. If the legs weren't bent backwards at the shin it'd be fine. And don't get me started on the motion line boy.

Anyway tldr you're not alone in liking the model legs.

    9. I do have a lot of experience with many dolls, and I still find my fairyland bodies to be some of the best at posing. There's no accounting for tastes, as they say.

    10. The thing that bothers me most about my two dolls is that they don't sit up very well. I like how the bodies look (yes, cutie legs included) and I knew about their problems sitting up before getting them, but I don't love that about them.

    11. I've become an mnf owner again (after years of f60 and above only). Thought I'd pop in to say hello and share my besties (both Alan girls):

    12. I have an older body (2010) MNF that can't pose well to save her life. At the same time I have a slightly newer (2012ish) boy body that poses like a champ. I have several other brand and sizes and all of them have their pluses and minuses regarding posing.

    13. My elf Phoeb and tan Lami arrived today! One odd thing I noticed, though - my Lami's headback has "hwayu" engraved in it and not "Lami" (elf Phoeb has the correct engraving). I don't plan on selling her ever, so I'm not concerned exactly, but is that normal?

Either way I'm so happy! Now I just need it to stop raining so I can start their faceups. :D

    14. I would contact Fairyland about that. Are you sure it's the correct sculpt? Maybe they were working on a Lami and a Hwayu at the same time and accidentally switched their head caps. Also, I know you said you don't plan on ever selling her... but to be on the safe side, I would at least get some sort of record from FL about the mix up.

    15. @Marcille I gree with @The Raven that you should check with Fairyland. I don't have Lami but she is now displaying at a doll store 20mins away from my house (Public transport). If it's need I could go to that doll store and ask to see the inside of head cap.

This is only in the case that fairyland couldn't give a clear answer and no one purchase the displayed doll while we are talking (Not likely to be soon... Minifee full set is indeed expensive)

    16. Congrats! I would love to see photos of them!!

    17. Thank you for all the input - I contacted customer service about it as suggested so that there's a paper trail at least. She's definitely Lami, so the most important part is right at least!

And I'll definitely post proper pics when they have their faceups done. I just need the awful English weather to calm down a bit! :XD:
