1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Fake dolls on DoA? What should you do if you know? >.>

Jan 25, 2011

    1. This thread is funny because I just realized I'm a total spoilt brat, olololol. :chocoberry

Anyway, personally? I couldn't care less. I mean, I know recasts are horrible and undermine the hobby and disrespect the original artists and so on and so forth but like... you'll never stop it. .______.

You can report it, they can be banned, or warned, or whatever; you can drag their usernames through the mud of the internet from here to livejournal; you can make protest blogs or whatever, hand out flyers promoting DoA at cons, but at the end of the day, recasts will happen, and people will buy them.

Maybe they don't have cash enough for the real deal because they help pay for their mother's meds out of their McJob. Maybe they can scratch it up, but just want a doll nownownow instead of saving and waiting for Murphy's Law to kick in and their saved money be needed else where. Maybe they just don't know about the hobby. Maybe they do, but don't care at all~ Beyond all you've done... there isn't much else you can do. You can try to deter others away from buying them, but people will do with their money as they see fit, and it's up to them whether it's worth it or not.

For some reason this whole thread makes me think about the fake foil pokemon cards I bought when I was twelve. Ah, memories~

    2. Talking bad for someone who follows the rule is unacceptable... I dunno about this... I can't understand what in their minds... agree with Fransyung, maybe those who owns and who support it have to change their own perspective... I know someone who treat doll as a "thing" and only to show off not for collecting as a valuable thing... and if they talking bad about you, it means they jealous of you because of the incapacitate... I dunno why but I just got this feelings... >.<;;
My perspective from someone who buy a recast, the will have a chance to buy recast without considering the consequences... and they will keep buying it. I pity them really... *big sigh*

    3. The "I don't care, I got ripped off before so let others be," is a poor excuse for anyone to accept illegal acts. And yes, importing a bootleg into the USA is an illegal act. If that doll owner is assisting others in supplying bootleg products they could be prosecuted by the federal government.

Beyond the legal ramifications is the moral arguement is that any fake or recast or ripped-off or fan-sub or copied item decreases the ability of artists to make art. Whether it's dolls, films, music or anime if the creator cannot make a living doing it, we are all the poorer for not having it in the future. Artists are already one of the least valued members of our society, let's try to remember that that doll is the creation of an artist, and to basically steal that persons way to make a living is wrong.

    4. This, completely.

If someone doesn't care about ripping people off, I don't want to accidentally end up doing business with them because I don't know. We have big warning flags on companies and provide relevant feedback about them, so I see no reason why we shouldn't have similar warnings about users who are trafficking in bootleg doll items.

    5. dude, no offense, i know which member u mention.
i dont wanna involve with this but the person that u accused that she/he buying a fake doll right ( i ONLY mention the head doll that u said that she/he bought out side DOA and fake, i dont know about other items that the person got) u got it wrong for that item.

i dare to swear to GOD that it's 100% real, no fake. I'm the one who helping her buying the doll. since my location is in singapore and she is in indonesia, i'm the one who paid for her, i'm the one who come to meet the seller and saw with my own eye that the owner took of the doll head from authentic soom Box like the one that i have and i saw the authentic certificate of DIA. and i'm the one who wrap the package and send it to her/him, i can even give the real seller contact id if it's necesary n DOA need evidences.

u can report and accuse some member, but dont bring such a personal issue to kick somebody ass and accused her/him to have a fake doll owner. I believe you are an adult that have brain to think. So if u accuse that person, i will stand by her/his side, coz i'm the one who helping her/him buying the doll and as a Good DOA member who always respect and buying original goods, i say, u had an issue. U act like 5 years old kids who shouted to the teacher, coz u dont like your playmate is different from u.

    6. Yes, we can't stop the production of recast.
but hey...we re now in DoA. The forum that ONLY allow the genuine doll.
If they're just can't sacrifice to saving and buy the genuine doll, and ended buy the bootleg one, DON'T ever dare to Join this forum !!

I don't care if one person buy a bootleg and show it off at outside, their twitter, fb, or somewhere else. Who care ??
BUT she show her Damn Fake dolls AT HERE !!
and she even make some business with her fake doll as model.
as a genuine dolls owner and a member of Doa, I think we can't just say...."oh...bootleg, recast ..it's a normal things nowaday. don't mention it to much"
      The HELL !!!:x

    7. Reporting the culprit is the right thing to do -- did you save screen shots of their conversation? That would help prove what was happening. On this forum, if there is enough evidence, the mods can step in. Outside the forum, there's not much you can do. People will buy what they want to buy, and there isn't really any stopping them.

This is a situation where education is very important so that potential doll owners realize how problematic recasts are and how easy it is to buy legit dolls. At this point there are many companies selling at different price points, lots of dealers outside of Asia, and a large secondary market. There is nothing difficult about obtaining a legit bjd, and there are many that can be had for no more than the cost of a recast.

    8. Silly you, but I wasn't talking about "that" head. ^^ I was talking about HER OTHER DOLL, the fake one. You know she has fake doll and that she uses the doll to sell in the MP but you stayed quiet and that is WRONG. You know the rules in this forum and you said you want to stay out of it? You're already in it! And now you're opening yourself to the public, and opening THAT PERSON to the public. I didn't say anything about her or the doll, but you did. ^^ Good luck on hiding her now.

    9. In all honesty, I could care less what other people do with their time or money. If they want to buy a recast fine, would I ever buy one? No, because the quality is garbage. I can't feel sorry for someone who buys a recast either. A lot of people enter this hobby without doing the proper research and buy the cheapest thing they can find, later on being disappointed when they can't post pictures of their dolls.

At the end of they day you can't force someone to have the same views of morality as you do. It's a serious waste on energy to track down people who can easily change their IP address and username and start selling again. As long as you're doing the "right" thing and buying legitimate dolls don't worry about what other people are doing.

We waste so much of our lives worrying about what other people are doing and in the end we end up with nothing to show for it. And then people end up acting like children when people don't agree with what we have to say :|

    10. can you read english honey, i SAID: I ONLY MENTION THE HEAD, i dont give a damn bout her other items coz i dont know about them and i dont speak to some items that i dont know. is it because of the head issue u bring this problem to the surface isn't it? Don't u run and hide behind DOA rules, coz all my dolls are 100% authentic and i helping a person buying an authenthic doll, DOA can't banned me from that and i'm not afraid.

i never cross the line. i just wanna say that not all you said was right, DOA need some revision on the system.
i'm not hiding anyone, i just saying the things that u hide and turn and manipulated.

    11. Lmao. Stating it's normal doesn't mean a lack of belief in people paying for it, either because they're prosecuted by the law, or banned from a website for breaking its' rules, or simply because their recast doesn't go the extra mile a good quality one would. :daisy

      This, so much.

    12. Yes, agreed with Frans. We don't mention "that head" but, the other. you just don't know the problem here. But I believe you know she has the bootleg and you want to stay by her/his side ??!
huh, Good luck then, Dude !!

you're NOT a good member on DoA. Do not look at yourself too high. You Helping the fake owner here.

    13. I'm sorry but you lied if you said you "don't know" about that fake doll... She just went in this thread 5 mins ago, and now she has taken her fake doll off DoA MP... Bwahahaha...

    14. Anyone who supports and buys these fake dolls because they're more affordable could potentially sell one on at a later date without informing the next buyer as to the true identity of the doll.

    15. dont act like a child, if u have a solid prove that I Brilcrist a person myself knows about any fake dolls then show to me now~
MP is not a prove that i knew her fake dolls. Other fake dolls that she own, it's not my business.

but the item head that start over this problem, i mention it over n over to you: it's not fake. i have a prove on authenticity of that item and i also coz i have a screen shoot prove the conversation that u speak about that item head and accuse it as a fake over and over. accusing an authentic item as a fake can be a serious business as well, dear

shall i send it to DOA admin?

    16. Accusing a doll as a fake is not a serious problem, especially since I said I "suspected" it as a recast. Everyone can suspect, especially if she is known as a fake doll owner. If you want to bring me to DoA court, then you're welcome. ^^ You, on the other hand, lied when you said you didn't know. You did know. And I have proof that you and some other people know about this and stayed quiet. I didn't start this thread because of her Soom Dia head, but because of her OTHER FAKE DOLL. O.O Just read the first post. And about disclosing names, I didn't say her name, but you stated the Soom Dia head... and only one person in this whole forum who's from Indonesia and owns a Dia head. It doesn't take a CSI to find out since the Dia is disclosed in her profile.

Oh, and by the way, do you still want to protect a fake doll owner? >.> Even tho' you know she has one? Shame on you!

And if you still want to disclose the BlackBerry Chat, I can also disclose your friends~ ^^ Do you really want to go that far?

    17. ok, should be fun then~ if u wanna bring it to court then go ahead~ yes, i didn't know~ what can u say about it? u keep saying i lied but u can't prove it that i lied, right? the owner that came from indonesia and have a soom Dia is not the only person in this world too, u just assuming everytime~ if u wanna keep hiding under the law then go ahead~u keep ignoring my point and try to turn over and over, it's pointless speaking to you, see u in court~ it must be fun later honey~

    18. Good luck, honey. If it doesn't happen in DoA then it can't be reported. ^^

    19. DoA's does not tolerate recasts because we feel that they hurt the creators of the original models, which in turn hurts our hobby. As so many of us are artists and writers, please remember both the emotional and financial impact of stolen work. :( We do not allow bootlegs in our galleries, discussion threads, or outside links. They may not be sold here or used as models.

Originality is something that we take very seriously. Obviously, it is difficult to recognize recasts in photos because they are sculpturally identical to the original product; however, we do investigate all reports of recast items, particularly when it comes to the Marketplaces.

If you are aware that someone has a recast doll and is posting it on DoA, please report it to the moderators using the Report feature (represented as a little triangle with an ! at the bottom of each post). This goes double for the Marketplaces. If you are aware that someone is selling a recast item, please be sure to bring it to the attention of the moderators to try to save a fellow community member from buying a lower quality knockoff at the price of a legitimate item. :(
