1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Falling in love with a doll and it's unavailability

Jul 9, 2014

    1. One time I fell in love with an SQ labs doll on Flickr, and, after scouring the internet, figured out the sculpt name... and that SQ labs doesn't sell this sculpt anywhere :( I don't know when or under what conditions this doll was released, but I had to give her up. I've never seen her anywhere else since.

    2. I'm in love with Zion from Supiadoll but he's unnavailable, I wish having him.

    3. MaggieStorme, I hope you are able to get your dream doll!

I fell in love with Volks Super Dollfie Cute Renee, and I kick myself for not even trying for her in the lottery. I almost never see her come up for sale any more, and even then she's prohibitively expensive for me.

    4. Welcome to the hobby!

I had an almost identical experience joining the world of BJDs. I saw a photo of a bunch of dolls on a picnic blanket and one of them just jumped out at me. It took some time to understand the system of limited dolls and this one was a Volks Liz so it seemed even more confusing. I never bought my Liz in the end because I spent a ton of time reading up on different companies so I would understand the differences before I purchased. However, she been available so many times over the years and really, I'm convinced if you wait long enough you will get your dream doll. You can also use the Marketplace to start a WTB thread. I managed to score my beautiful Masha that way and like many others, the owner didn't ask for a mark up on the doll because she wasn't full set.

    5. Sometimes a sculpt will be impossile to find, though every so often it will show up on sale out of no where. Always be on the look out!

    6. Everyone's responses are giving me hope on achieving my dream doll. I appreciate the well wishes and the advice so much it soothes the ache and shows the nature of the good people in the hobby.:D

    7. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. The first was Soom Amber. I saw her and immediately fell in love with her, and I was heartbroken when I found out that she was limited. But not even a year into the hobby I found her and was able to bring her home. Some are more difficult to find and/or piece together. It took me 2 years to piece together my Heliot mainly due to finances and other things (including other dolls) becoming more of a priority. Now most of the dolls I own are limited. I keep track of my favorite companies and purchase directly from them as often as possible when it comes to limiteds because I don't want to pay the secondhand price. However, there is an element of excitement when it comes to hunting for a rare/LE/sold out doll. Definitely set aside funds for the doll, post a WTB thread, and don't give up! :)

    8. yeah, always find a mold too late.. i fell in love with claudia 2nd from angell studio. she's my new grail.. but yeah. almost can't find anybody that is selling her..

    9. I fell in love with the limited doll SOOM Ignim and Agate....but the ones that were on the market place are all sold /:
Hopefully one day I'll find them and have them.

    10. I fell for Volks Kurt and thought he would be impossible to find since he had been released years before I discovered him. Lucky for me, he wasn't a popular doll, and I could still buy him from the company!

It always worth checking the main site for availability, and you can always ask to be put on a waiting list for dolls out of their ordering period but still in their manufacturing period, letting the company know that if someone defaults on their layaway for the doll you would love to continue the order. It's no guarantee, but companies don't want to lose orders or waste dolls that have been half-completed, so it could be something to try, especially with smaller companies who definitely need guaranteed sales.

I have never heard of that and will be looking into it in the future. Thanks!

    12. It was that way with my Soom Smokey. I saw a picture of him and it was insta-squee! I looked him up and found out he was sold out....and that every second hand seller had him marked up way out of my range. So I sniffled and gave up. Then one day out of the blue my sister got him for me! So now I have him and squee internally everyday. I feel very lucky.

    13. I'm totally in Love with the Bactros. I really want one in white but they are sooooooooo hard to get. Maybe one day luck will leave me with one.

    14. theres many limited ones i feel in love with.. sadly they are no longer around. and im still unsure if i want to buy second hand or not.. call me picky but if im spending a ton on a doll i want it to be perfect

    15. I think almost everyone in the hobby has experienced this at some point! For me, I've had it happen three times..first, with Volks Cecile the Scarface, who was released only in Japan, only on a cruise, only for Volks VIP members...now, it's not so hard to find him on the secondhand market here on DoA, but back then, I stalked Yahoo Japan and counted my pennies until I finally got him! He was my second doll, and still one of my favorite sculpts <3 The second was a Dive Seimei, and that was a lot harder as there were only around 15 heads made by an artist who didn't make dolls after him, and he was sold out already by the time I joined the hobby. Again, lots of stalking and patience led to me being able to buy him from a lovely lady here on DoA! :D

It does seem that dream dolls just get worse though, as I fell in love with the Dust of Dolls Doom Lil on Ldoll a couple of years back, but only two were made and I don't think the company is planning to produce any more of that particular sculpt...but never say never! Be patient, search and you never know :)

    16. I ache for Bactro.. It simply kills me that I missed her by a month. And again in here :...(

    17. My first glimpse at a BJD was a Soom Amber and Topaz in a doll magazine. I remember my jaw dropping and the instant love that occurred afterwards. I was really sad when I realized that they were a limited offer from over a year prior. So I tried to forget them and started collecting others. Then I entered a Soom lottery and by some huge luck won them both! So don't give up. I would try the marketplace and you will be surprised what happens. WTB threads are very helpful. Good luck.

    18. Been there, done that. Soom MD Amber was my unobtainable dream doll from 2009 all the way up to 2014 when I was finally able snag one from the marketplace for a (relatively) reasonable price. Still have moments where I can barely believe that I have her here with me; so rare, so desirable, yet... there she is, sitting safely on my bed right now. :3

Definitely don't give up. With a little patience, most anything is possible. Promise.

    19. I'm in love with LeekeWorld Lionel. Have been for years. He was the first doll I ever really wanted, actually. I even had a name picked out for him, Robert Cameron. :XD:

I saw one on the MP quite a while ago, of course when I had no extra hobby money :doh It was kind of sad how I visited the sales thread practically every day till he was sold. I keep checking the secondary market, though. Who knows? "Robert" may be out there somewhere.

    20. Wolf the Knight, a limited edition doll from Soom that I found out about right after the event finished. I was heartbroken. Still am, actually, and I constantly search for second-hand versions of him. It sucks, doesn't it? I've kind of gotten over it by telling myself that there's not much to be done, but that I could keep an eye out, and maybe find him in the future. Optimistic realism, I guess.
