1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Falling in love with a doll and it's unavailability

Jul 9, 2014

1. MarryH They've said nothing about discontinuing the regular Feeple60 bodies. All the new owners have the F60Moe because they just had a batch release recently.

2. Fairyland Roke might just be my grail, which Im sure isnt that hard to find second hand just yet. But I havent tried looking since I dont have the money and I hate doing layaway. I just feel like I always miss the bus and I NEVER have the funds when the Limited Edition full sets come out that I would actually buy in a heart beat.

3. @Tayma-Leigh Oh my gosh thank you so much for telling me this! How often do they do the batches?

4. I know this feeling hardcore! When I was younger there was a doll that came out that looked EXACTLY how I imagined a certain character I've had for years to look. I looked at the sculpt at least once every day, but he was SD sized and I figured I'd never be able to afford him, and I would never want a doll that size. Flash forward a few years later when I'm willing to try SD size and I have a job to save up for him and to this day I can't find him. I've looked high and low at some of the older companies that were popular during the time and have tried remembering the name of the sculpt, but to this day I have never been able to find him again. I don't know if he's discontinued or not, but just the fact that I can't seem to find him makes me sad. I just hope that this FL MNF Mika that I just bought will fill in the empty space that not finding that other doll has created :/

5. When I was first introduced to the hobby through the magazine "Haute Doll," I remember seeing a picture of Volks' Yukinojo and thought to myself that that was the doll I was going to buy for myself. Omigawd...after getting better acquainted with the hobby, I soon discovered that he was a limited edition doll that had had to be purchased after winning a lottery during a special event. Hahaha. After gaining access to the Marketplace, I had discovered that he is still available though not as mint or as "affordable" as he was back then. That, and discovering that there were more BJD companies other than Volks that sell amazing looking BJDs out there for me to look into. Although I will always want to get Yukinojo as close as default as possible (as well as a Volks Suigintoh), I know that if I am ready to, it will cost me quite a bit when I can afford to do so (a few thousand the last time I checked). You just have to be patient if the Emon from May is your Grail Doll or not.

I don't know if you have access to the Marketplace yet, but set up a "Want to Buy" (WTB) post with as much information about the doll as possible to see if the doll is available or if an owner has been thinking of selling one. I have never heard of the company before, so I am not sure how often it would come up in the Marketplace. Depending on the company and how well the previous owner took care of their dolls, older BJDs may not look as good as the newer ones even from the same company. There really is a noticeable difference between the BJDs from the early 2000s to the ones in the last few years. Just eye-balling the Google images of the doll, maybe check out the Iplehouse and Eluts websites for similar looking dolls. They are companies that have pretty good products and are accessible through the second hand market if you end up falling in love with one that is no longer available through the original websites. Hope this was helpful!

6. I'm in love with Volks Hijikata Toshizo for several years...:pout:

7. i know how hard... i cant find a good head for Genesis from FF7...

8. I too have a habit of falling in love with dolls that are no longer made by the company and the second hand market is so expensive when it comes to the dolls I want to buy. I'm very lucky to have been able to purchase my Volks Lorina through their lottery. I'm waiting patiently to purchase a Fairyland MNF Juri 2007. Maybe someday.

9. I'm temporarily in this boat, but not because my doll is obscure--far from it! I'm just waiting for a new batch of Pukipuki PongPongs to be on preorder.

It's waaaaay OT, but I do own an old porcelain doll that the Internet doesn't seem to know about. Other dolls in the series, yes! That particular model, NO results!

10. I've been pining over IGO Echo by Naruya(?) for years, since finding him on an ID thread here. He's so unavailable all my searching ever turns up is a few owner photos and some stuff that Google won't translate. I've pretty much given up hope of ever owning one, but I still look around every once in a while....just in case.

11. I came here to share my happiness: When I knew about one of Soom dolls , this doll was already sold out. Its price was also high for me at that time so I couldnt afford it no way!
All I was left to do is looking at photos of him made by others and dream about having him.
But at the end the fortune came to me - I managed to buy him at one of our hobby marketplaces.
So never give up. All you need is belief and strong wish to get the doll :)

12. I am totally feeling this way about the new luts tiny centaurs. I want one and they sold out too quickly!!

13. That feeling of disappointment is sooooooo hurtful. I saw DollZone Anson before and I missed the chance to order her by a day. I was saving up money and when I finally had the money they discontinued her. T_T I've been hunting down a second hand but I always miss it. I sometimes think it's probably not for me but I just can't let it go. I'm still looking for one up until now and I hope I can find one someday.

14. Aww man~ I agree, just about everyone's been in this boat/is in the same boat xD! I have far too many dollies on my wish list that are discontinued or dolls I'll most likely never see on the marketplace. I have just about the same luck as Kimichi, If I do check the marketplace, I always seem to miss it Dx!

So good luck to us all!

15. I know these feels! I never thought I was into tiny moosetaurs but in the past few days Doll Chateau Ada has stolen my heart in a big way, so I'm hoping she will be rereleased one of these days.

16. Yes it's such a bad feeling. I discovered a doll and emailed the company about it and they said that I missed the pre-order and they weren't making it any more. I did see one being sold secondhand but for double the price. I was sad but eventually I just focused on my other dolls. The discontinued ones will still be on my wishlist though ;)

17. Oh god I know this feeling all too well. A little while ago after I got back into the hobby I discovered LUTS' centaur MSDs. I fell in love. With every single one of them. Then I saw the fact that they were all limited edition and well, you can imagine my reaction. Here's hoping LUTS' releases a new centaur! Maybe this summer? \o/

18. I was lucky enough to get out of the boat a few days ago! ;) I saw a gorgeous girl pass by on my Flickr... Did the research, and found out she was a limited Fairyland Sionna... I put her out of my head as she was sold out and import fees to Europe would be too high in any case. So when I saw her pass by on eBay in Europe I didn't hesitate! She arrived yesterday and I still can't believe it! :)

19. The only doll i fall in love for real was celine i wish to get her soon

20. @inkumi I know this feeling so well! ><;;; I went completely nuts with the centaurs myself... it took three releases for me to be able to get my hands on one too... I wish you the best of luck in acquiring one!

That aside... oh boy; have I ever. Minifee Juri 11 came out when I was just starting the hobby. Ironically, have I liked minifees enough then and had I participated in their event I would have gotten it, but I did not and for four whole years I've yearned after that sculpt. Then there's unoa, just as hard to acquire... at least if you wanted the boys. I could hybrid a faceplate but that wasn't enough for me, I wanted the whole deal. And soom... damnit soom! Dia, Lami and Smokey were this same thing all over again for me yet I managed to own them as well...

I can say I've only been lucky so far, but there's also a doll I will most likely never own and it hurts... he was from a literally unknown company and nearly nobody owns him, on top of being severely limited from the get go. And lastly, this list cannot close without Volks... Shiro Tachibana, Williams, Suiseiseki, Isao... nearly every sculpt I love from them is nigh impossible to come by for a decent price secondhand...
