Falling in love with a doll and it's unavailability

Jul 9, 2014

    1. I'm in love with Iplehouse Limited Edition Benny, but she is sold out and so I will never be able to get her.

    2. I'm going it through it now. There's a particular sculpt by a particular artist/company that I'm pining for. The artist does not reply to messages and the particular sculpt cannot be found on any secondhand market. I'm just miserable!

    3. Keep looking! I'm sure there will be someone that will sell her. Maybe not any time soon, but don't say never! :D

    4. Ah.. I love Ringdoll's LE version of Moyu (especially the face up) and Soom's The Crow. Alas, I joined the hobby too late and wouldn't have been able to afford them anyway. Y_Y

    5. TOI from limhwa, he looks like Lee min ho and i really want it, but it is already sold out :(

    6. Well, I just joined the 'sold out' club. I desperately want Impldoll Colin and pieces from Soom Bix... Sigh, one day...

    7. All the dolls from my wishlist, I love them but I will never get them. They're available if I search enough but I'm not willing to pay those outrageous prices. +$800 for a head? no thank you. [IMG]

    8. This is one of those really frustrating sides of the hobby...

Pretty much all dolls I consider 'grails' are not available all the time, some are timed and do show up from time to time though so that's alright.
But then it happens a whole lot that I look around for a new sculpt that meets my expectations for a character, which is hard because I'm super picky... and then I find one somewhere in a picture or in a thread but when I try looking them up on their company page.................................they are long sold out. Or the company has closed down. Or they sold the sculpt to another company that stated they will never release them a 2nd time.

It's heart breaking every single time, and it's annoying!
I know companies have their reasons for discontinuing a sculpt, as they do with limited editions (though that one's well... money) but I wish there was no such thing so that a lot of that elitist were gone and people could find a sculpt they like and then just buy if it they can afford it instead of crying over sold out dolls... ugh.

    9. Haha i once loved a doll who was long discontinued artist doll, and tried so hard to find it and couldn't. The artist released a different sculpt and I bought it like my silver medal, lol.
A few years later I had to sell my collection, & I regretted selling that doll the moment I did it.
Well, recently I found the original doll I had been pining for in the first place and successfully bought him!! I can't wait to get him lol! It took years to get him but he is finally mine ♡

    10. My grail doll is Fairyland Minifee Siean Elf. Of course it was a free one from an event, so there isn't that many and lots of people like her, but I can still dream. Sigh.

    11. I'm just getting into the BJD hobby and I have seen far to many dolls I would have chosen to be my first if they were still available. I especially liked the Nanuri 2014 event head. I saw someone selling their customized one a week ago. It killed me to see her go to someone else because the one that was selling was the very reason why I fell in love with sculpt in the first place. She was way out of my budget and I already had a girl on layaway otherwise I would have bought her.

    12. My grail doll is definitely the Dollfie Dream Kanu Unchou. She looks exactly like one of my original characters (in the Dollfie Dream anime-esque style, anyways. I've seen a few realistic resin BJDs that look like my OC, too, but I think I prefer the DD look for this character.) and I really want her. She costs so much secondhand, though, and is really rare to find anywhere. Thankfully she's the only one on my wishlist that's always unavailable like that.

I think my parents would kill me if I spent that kind of money on a doll, anyways...jeez, they nearly threw up when I told them that the doll I'm saving up for costs 530 dollars total...I don't even want to know what their reactions to Kanu's price would be. :sweat

I wish they would re-release her. I know lots of other people want her, too. Maybe Volks will have mercy on us one day...

(probably not but whatever I want a dolly ;A; )

    13. I have almost a habit for this - finding a doll that I love and then it's limited edition and ofcourse sold out. My problem is that usually when I find a mold that is limited, it is already too late. But it is also annoying if I don't have any extra money at the moment - and then when I do it's sold out already. I don't know, maybe I should do some emergency saving box and collect money in there for this situation. Haha.

Some examples for molds I would have wanted are Migidoll's Janus Miho, it would have been perfect for one of my charcters (smirking face, sarcastic looking almost) - but with my luck it was a limited edition and sold out a long ago. I have to keep looking, but it is hard, since I compare everything with my perfect sold out mold.

Also Luts senior delf Bory. My heart cries when I see that mold. I am so bitter that I did not know they did actually make two events for it this summer at the same time, because I wanted it, but did not have enough money for it at that time. I keep hoping that they would still do event with that mold and I would happen to have some extra money at that time. I like the kid Bory, so the big guy would have been perfect. I do collect SD size dolls for my story and that mold would have been nice...

Peakwood's Twin Segi boy, I do adore the faceup. Freckles, yes please. It is sold out, but at least PW sells nude Segi heads and bodies, so I could buy one and do the faceup similarly myself. The annoying thing about Peakwood's FOC line is, that everytime I check it is sold out and it tooks forever for them to re-stock. :...(

    14. I've had something similar happen to me too. I fell in love with Volks' SD13 Okita Souji back when they first announced him. Determined to purchase him, I've parked myself in front of my PC just waiting for him to be released. Unfortunately, I was a minute too late, and he was gone before I could go through with the payment. ;-;

I was pretty young then, and was quite new to the hobby, so I gave up thinking that he's gone forever. You could say that I had him pegged as my grail doll back then. I've had to take a break from the hobby not too long after to concentrate on studies too, and just ended up on a 8 year hiatus.

Now than I'm back, and a little older, I no longer believe in "grail dolls". Unless they're extremely limited (maybe less than 50 released), LEs will almost always end up in the 2nd hand market eventually. I searched for him in the MP as soon as I was back, and did find someone who had the head listed for sale.
Unfortunately, I had already purchased a couple of new dolls and did not want to bust my budget so I waited. It took me 3 more months before I could buy him, and I still had to consider the decision because it would be the first time I'd be paying over $600 for just a head. :'D But I simply loved the sculpt too much to give it up, and purchased him anyway.

All in all, it took me 8 years to finally get him, and the original image I had for him have changed completely, but I'm glad to finally own him~

TL;DR, don't lose hope! It may take a while, but I'm sure you'll find the sculpt you love and have been pinning for eventually! :)

    15. I have that experience as well I was browsing through flickr and saw this sculpt that I absolutely loved only to realise that that sculpt was already sold out long ago. But I am not going to give up my search for him and hopefully I will be able to find him soon.

    16. For me, my grails are pretty hard to obtain. A DollShe Saint for one thing isn't being sold anymore. Then a 5th motif veintu is just WAY out of my price range and will probably never be able to get one.

    17. Hopping on-board the unavailable love train, and I was so close too..! I've been hopelessly in love with DearMine's Nocturn ~Eclipse~ for the past month or so and my friend was even planning on getting it for me for Christmas.. but without warning, it was listed as sold out on the only place I could still find it :'3c Maybe if I'm lucky it'll resurface in the second-hand market, but for now I'm pretty gutted since it feels like it was snatched away right in front of me..

    18. Lucky you. This is my dream doll. Congratulations. I have been involved with BJD only in the last 2 months, and I was astounded by the fact that you can't order what you want. I find it very frustrating to see that everything always seems to be sold out.

    19. This is the story of my life! I'm in love with the CP Delf sculpts. My grail is the Angel Elf Soo. Fortunately, the second hand market is kind for Delf lovers...if you have a fat enough wallet! I'm also in love with Volks' Creamy Mami. I found 2 mint-in-box fullsets on Mandarake but did not have $1400 to get one. I will probably NEVER have $1400 to get Mami. I have expensive taste in Volks dolls lol. I need someone to teach me how to use Yahoo! Japan Auctions for finding doll deals!

    20. I have 3 discontinued limiteds in the top of my wishlist at this moment that are so rarely seen in the second-hand marketplace... But I don't loose hope, if you keep on looking and searched, everything is possible!
I also do not have a big budget so even if they would appear it would be difficult for me to get them... I guess dreams are free.
