Figuring out what doll size suits you.

Jan 15, 2012

    1. I own Pullips who are around 30cm tall. Pretty tall in my eyes and a very good comparison. I don't think I will ever get a doll that's taller than my K.I.D. Joy who is 35cm because I'm already worried if this size will be too big for me^^

    2. My first doll was SD sized, and although I still love him, I've discovered that I much prefer MSD size. After I got him, I decided I wanted a doll in another size. I got Echo who is a "tiny" size, and realized I'm not a huge fan of the smaller dolls, although I don't regret buying her. Michael was next, and I finally found the "perfect" size for me. lol I'm an MSD girl. :)

    3. I'm an MSD fan too, My first doll was a Pullip and the size is okay for me, I bought an MSD bjd 2 years after and I love this size! I see many SD in meeting but it's very too big for me, i have 3 teenies but they are bunnies and I love them, for human version I prefer MSD.

    4. I was influenced by my friend, the one who lured me into the hobby, and she almost only has big dolls, so my first is fairly big (62cm). It makes sense to me because my dolls are and will be based on characters I've created, and it seems only right that the adults are SD's, the children/young teens MSD's, and if I ever get a baby I guess that will be an even smaller one (if I trust myself not to lose it in the chaos that is my room ;)) And the larger ones are easier to sew for :)

    5. i don't think i'd like anything bigger than yosd, in all honesty. i like the compact, rest-her-on-my-chest-while-i'm-on-the-laptop size of my littlefee, hehe.

      i also super duper want a 1/12 for the bring-along-anywhere-ability - i read somewhere that a 1/12 will fit into a sunglasses case to be brought everywhere, & that idea just thrills me!

    6. When i first started i was afraid of SDs because they just seemed so big! I didn't think i would be prepared for one;; I thought MSD would be a good size to start with. Now i have six MSDs and three tinies(which i love for their small size and generally being adorable), so no i still don't have any SDs. However i'm hoping to get one(or two) for characters of a friend and mine in the future. :)

    7. I never really thought about sizes when I first got into the hobby. It was always "the doll that appeals to me the most" I would buy.
      But when I got my first doll, I decided I liked the SD size. Although these days I am thinking of getting an MSD because my boy is a little heavy to take around >.<;;

    8. The doll I'm saving for a MSD, but I already know I want at least 2 smaller dolls, and a couple SDs. I keep thinking I should stick to MSDs, because they're about the size I think I would like the best, and also so they could share clothes and such, but in the end I don't think I can resist. Oh well ^^

    9. I currently have 3 MSD dolls and am waiting for my first SD girl (on layaway). Not sure how I'm going to like the larger size, but there's another SD girl I want on Iple House, so here's hoping I like the SD size dolls.

    10. I don't particularly have any size rules; I just feel I can handle SDs more comfortably because I don't really sit well with smaller sizes. I'd like to try owning an MSD or a Honey Delf for portability and cuteness' sake, though!

    11. I started with an SD sized doll, and I had already determined I like the bigger sizes better, but now, 9 dolls later (technically 10 since I sold one), I find I like every size! I adore the tinies and YoSDs, but I have a deep love for my SDs and 70cms. My MSDs aren't without love either!

      I love going to meets to see all the different sized dolls, and I like owning at least one in every size from 11cm to 72cm. The 70cms are lardbutts and harder to carry around for a long time, but I love their size and weight. YoSDs and tinies are easier to transport, but they just down sit as nicely in the crook of my arm.

    12. Despite saying I will not sell my larger sizes in my first post, I have decided to start selling them. :doh I'll probably go slow and sell only a few first, to gauge how I'll feel. If I don't feel too much regret after the first few, I'll probably sell the rest, as well.

      I still can't say I regret buying any of my dolls, though. It might be a slight hassle to sell them, but I've enjoyed owning all my dolls.

    13. I've had a lot of trouble trying to work out what size to start out with. I'd prefer to have all dolls of a similar size if possible so that they can share clothes. At the moment I'm leaning towards large sized dolls since I'd really like to make clothes for them and I think that would be easier with a larger doll. But I'm sure if I don't like the size I'll downgrade to a smaller range. I guess it's just a matter of trial and error.

    14. I basicly found out I like SDs after buying a doll I now can't get rid of.. I've tried having msd, yoSD and SD now.. MY friend got a 70cm.. And I have figured out that the bigger the better XD

    15. For my first doll I was saving for a fairyland msd, than found out about Hujoo. I really loved the "arrogant" one. She was the one :aheartbea. I orderd her the same day as she is sooooooo cheap. I was thinking hmm Yosd is way to small but I never regretted it. XD I'm just sad she is not made from resn. I would have payed the world for her wahaha :p I think you just need to fall in love with a doll han she/he is the one.
      I'm saving up for more dolls right now makybe a pukipuki? haha :p

    16. didn't think too much when getting the first few dolls, but as time goes on, it's clear that i spend more time and more money for the big one rather than the small one :|
      then gone the msd, and recently gone the YoSD, i know they are cute and can be easily carried when travel but i am just more comfortable with the big girls and boys ;_;

    17. I started out with 1/3 dolls -- I kinda "fell into" them because all the head sculpts I liked were of that size. Over time my love for the 60-65cm range has just grown, to the point where my primary doll family will all be 1/3 dolls. I've dabbled in minis, but that didn't last that long. I just like 1/3 dolls too much.

    18. I knew I wanted SD13s right away! It was 2005, and my heart had been irretrievably stolen by those Volks Tokyo Boys. :fangirl: I liked that they were so tall, and so leggy, and had such presence-- so I was prepared for getting into it. But of course I was surprised in person anyway when I saw how tall 60cm actually was in your arms. ^^

      However, even though I knew what I wanted, my first doll was still a small one-- an SDCute (a little taller than MSD)-- just to get my feet wet on the prices! Spending 3 or 4 figures on a doll was something I'd never done before. It quickly got waaaayyy too easy. Now I have dolls ranging from 10cm to 80cm.

    19. It's hard to say as I'm still figuring it out. I think I've ruled out MSDs and I'm super picky about SDs. My preferred size at the moment is YoSD because of the ease with which you can cart them around, all their cute clothing options, their cute, stylized faces, and their unobtrusive size.

    20. for me its all about sculpt and body, never about size. For now i like 1/3 size boys, yosd and tinies are way too hard to keep let alone my keys! i would loose them in an hour. heck half an hour even! hahaha only big boys for me~
