Finish one doll? Or complete your doll collection? What comes first?

Jun 19, 2009

    1. I do a bit of both. At the moment I'm in a financial situation where I can buy many dolls, and this won't last for much longer. So I'm trying to get as much of my collection together as I can, as well as buying the props/wigs/etc that I consider most important. Other things can wait as I work on them slowly. I consider most of my dolls to be constantly evolving in one way or another, only a couple do I consider complete and would be happy if I never bought anything for them again.

    2. I prefer to complete one doll before starting the next. I've had two other dolls that had their full looks and I always finished one (getting the right wig, the right eyes, and at least one pair of shoes) before I started shopping around for another doll.

I want to finish the one that I am currently waiting for before buying his partner, although I do want to get his partner home as soon as possible!

    3. I collected my 'must haves' first, which came down to Nigel (soom Namu) and Frigg (Iplehouse DSCocori). Now I am in the process of 'completing' them... Frigg is pretty well a a good point of being considered 'done' for now, and next it's Nigel's turn, though really his 'finishing' has been going on much longer then Frigg's. Finding a good body size and resin match to increase his posability has been a pain!

but yeah, for me it's 'finish first, then add more'. That way I know if I don't end up getting other dolls or the ones I want right away, I still have the two center characters of my resin world finished and ready for me to fuss with as is. No slew of floating heads and naked bodies and missing face ups while the collection increases, but now one gets done!

    4. Finish one doll? Or complete your doll collection? What comes first?

I like completing one doll before moving on with the rest of the collection. I've had several doll parts lying around without bodies or face ups once before. I didn't really enjoy it as much as actually completing the finalized look of a doll.

    5. I have no patience, I always wanted all my dolls right away. I tended to buy dolls fast before the others were done and well-dressed. Nowadays I've been working harder to get clothing, face-ups and the right wigs and eyes for the others. I've found now that focusing more on completing who I have is pretty enjoyable in its own right.

    6. I have to agree with bagofspiders. I originally wanted to complete just two dolls, but then something came up on the marketplace, and.. now I have 6, soon to be 7. One is waiting for his perfect wig, my second girl is still waiting for a body, they all need clothes..and three more will be added to the mix by June. While I wait, I'm hoping to get down to work on getting the ones I have completely together, then work on getting the new additions some stuff for when they get here.

But it's so much fun, it's hard to complain!~

    7. I don't have characters for any of my dolls, and I have an ever-growing wishlist, so I don't think I'll ever be able to complete my collection. xD

There are points where I spend lots of money to bring some dolls home quickly, and then there are points where I will go without a new doll for a few months because I'm buying new clothes, wigs or eyes to get the ones I have looking "right" instead of dressed in whatever extras I have lying around.

    8. I have two dolls and two floating heads, NONE of which are finished! Not even my first doll is done. I find that I try to buy all the ones I want first and finish them gets put on the backburner. Especially if it's a hard to find sculpt and I stumble across one in the marketplace. Then I HAVE to have it X3. I actually wish I had finished at least one of my dolls first but, *shrug* what are you gonna do about it? I'm still learning photgraphy so maybe I'll have a complete doll by the time I get good enough at it!

    9. I first wanted two, then three dolls. My priority, it seems, is to get all three of them home so that I can work on them quietly. It's a bit ... scary ... in the sense that I'm buying three dolls without having finished even one and thus not knowing if I'm even able to make my dolls look the way I want them, but... Well, the first one is coming along quite nicely, so I'm less worried now than when I ordered my second doll :P.

I'm not entirely sure why I feel this need to have the dolls with me as soon as possible. It's probably because I am one of those people who have their characters established first and then go looking for sculpts to embody them - when I have found the right doll, I'm afraid that it will suddenly be discontinued or something if I don't order it soon. ...Yes, I know. Also, I like to take my time over the doll's outfit and jewelry and things.

    10. I'm OCD about finishing things, so I have a feeling I'll operate on the "finish first", just because I hate looking at half-finished projects, in any facet of life.

    11. Wmm...I personaly do both at the same time! While my first doll is not finished , some of my most recent dolls are. Wich is strange really , but that`s how it is.

    12. I have a similar sort of problem: I have two floating heads, and before I can even get their bodies, I want to rush off and buy another doll. It's like a craving, I need a new character, or there's another doll on the Marketplace that I want to give a home and make into a character, while I have two incomplete dolls begging for bodies, clothes, and one of them even a wig that fits right. ._.;;

And I don't think it's really possible to "complete" my collection either way. I don't have a set of character for dolls (although I have characters I want to be dolls) and the ones on my wishlist are ones I'd like, but not really part of said characters. I think that's more confusing to explain than it is.

At any rate, I'm working on completing the dolls I have (literally the dolls, not just the characters) before I get more. Either way, money needs to be saved. xwx

    13. I absolutely SUCK at finishing things. So of course my priority has always been my collection. But now that a very large, very unexpected expense has crashed into my life and my money plans, I'm forced to re-evaluate that priority list.:(

    14. I like to finish the one doll. Because well I just dont want to leave the doll all alone like that when really it isnt finished. I dont care for a large collection if really none of them are complete to me.
