First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

    1. My First Doll came with a faceup because I wanted to be able to enjoy the doll in a completed state right out of the box (and all of her clothes and eyes/wig were ready and home when she arrived). I felt I would get brave to do her faceup (or send it out) once it needed a touch-up or needed a change.

    2. I ordered mine without a face-up. True, at first I thought "there's no way I can do it myself!..." but then I read some stuff online, saw the awesome first face-up my friend made, and thought, hell, I'll do it too!. It's the customization and creating I like about BJDs anyway, and it's not like I suck at drawing. By now, I've tried some face-upping on a porcelain doll, and I'm pretty confident about being able to make a bearable one for my girl when she arrives. ^^ And I'm happy with the choice, because I don't think I could bond with a doll that came face ready from the company, the face-up creates so much of the personality.

    3. I got my doll with faceup, because I really loved the makeup on the official website. I don't think I'll actually do faceup myself unless I practice with a junk head first because I have no experience.

    4. My first doll I got with face up because I don't want to put the face up myself later on. It really depend if on you and if you want to spend the faceup money or not

    5. I can do faceups on other kinds of dolls (like blythes and pullips), but I am still not that good in BJD make up.
So, all my dolls I got with store faceup because I was not too confident in doing it myself yet.

But I am really considering to buy some blank head next time, so I can practice my face up skills.

    6. I got my first doll with a face-up. I was afraid of trying to do one myself right away and possibly end up not liking the doll I just spent $200 on cuz I made it ugly. I think this was a good choice for me. That was another thing. I knew I was moving soon and couldn't really afford to drop a bunch of cash on art supplies and just have even more stuff to move. So first doll really needed a face up for me.

I still only have the one doll right now, but recently I've stripped his face and redone it. Took 3 tries to get the lips the right color so he didn't look like he was wearing lipstick, but I'm really happy with the results and feel confident enough to get my second doll (currently half paid off) without a face-up.

    7. Personally for my first doll I want a factory face up. Later on I'll learn how to do it my self because I am verry artistic, and probablly won't have too much trouble with it. BUT! I'd rather be able to take her out of the box and get to enjoy her sooner rather than wait the months it would take for me to be able to buy the supplies and perfect the skill.

I'll most likely get the first all factory-like and possiblly get a second blank face to practice on, and buy that head a body later on. Be all back words and such ;)

    8. My first doll came with official face-up. I think mostly I fell in love with him with his gentle look so I got him with that face-up and I never thought to change it. Actually all my dolls came with offcial face-up= =...I am normally attracted by not only dolls themselves but their look in official pics also~

For a new, I suppose it is better to have the first doll with face-up. Than when you are familiar with how to make up by yourself or know someone in this field can do that, you could buy without face-up.

    9. My first doll (currently my only doll) came with the default, and I plan to get all of my dolls with the default faceups. Its just easier for me to add to an exsisting faceup then start from scratch. I will be doing my sisters' first doll's faceup though :)

I'd say for a first get him or her with the default, that way they're ready to be played with/photographed and enjoyed. ^_^

    10. My first doll, I got without a faceup. The company ones were lovely, but not what I had in mind for the character at all. So he's waiting till summer when the artist I want opens commissions so he can get a faceup, scars, and a tattoo all at once.
My second doll, one of the faceup styles offered was PERFECT for what I wanted and I'm very glad I decided to splurge for it. Though I may decide to change her upper lashes.
My third doll is currently on layaway but I opted not to get the company one. I regretted the decision after ordering, since it was so gorgeous. But as more people started to post pictures, I realized nearly everyone got the faceup, and was glad that I didn't. My doll just wouldn't feel as unique if she looked like everyone elses.

    11. For me getting my first doll with a face-up was a no brainer. I'm not an artist and didn't want to waste money on face-up supplies when I know I'm too picky to do a face-up that I could stand. I wanted to be able to enjoy my doll and not worry about trying to find and artist and sending off my dolls head and being essentially doll-less again after an already agonizing wait. I've done customs since then and some were wonderful - others absolutely horrible. It's all personal preference but weighing the options and remembering you can get the face-up changed later is important.

    12. I got my first doll as a full set. He came strung and with a wig, eyes, a complete outfit, and, of course, a faceup. This worked out nicely for me. :)

    13. My first doll(to be ordered next month!!!) will be coming with a face-up. I love to draw, sculpt and paint but for my first doll, I loved the stock face up on him already and I just want him to be perfect when he arrives at my doorstep. On my next doll, or maybe for my 3rd I'll get him/her blank because I'd LOVE to do face-ups on them BUT that involves getting a lot of supplies together, and as the dolls are 200-500 each (my first being almost 400) I can't afford it at the current moment even if I wanted to give him a face-up.

So in short, first doll WILL have face-up because I wan't him to be finished the moment he gets to my house, the second or third may come blank because painting is so fun!

    14. My doll was with a default make-up, because I liked it very much )

    15. My first doll had a default face-up, i thinks its easier to know if you like BJDs if the first one is "perfect" from the start. ^^

    16. My first doll, I had face-up on but then I got rid of it because I realize up close, it wasn't what I wanted. So, that was a waste of money for ^^;;

    17. I ordered my Feeple last month and she is coming without a faceup. I figured that I might as well learn how to do faceups since I plan on being in the hobby for a while. Plus I don't really like the default face-up.

I got a human faceplate on eBay and it came in recently. I started gathering materials and I did my first faceup. If it wasn't for the disastrous sealant I used I would have kept it. It came off and I get to pratice some more. I'm actually quite excited about it because I really enjoyed doing the faceup. It was really relaxing.

    18. I got my first one without a faceup. I wanted to do my own and didn't want to bother paying for one I would just wash off. I'm not very good at it, but I still think they look good.

    19. I ordered my first one with a face up - it just happens to be perfect for the character I have in mind. The second doll I have an eye on, though... Her default face up isn't right at all. I will have to order her without, but I am really scared of doing my own. I've bought a project head to have my first try, because I don't think I'd dare to have a go at a brand-new, perfect-looking head...

    20. I originally ordered without a face-up, but the company ended up doing one anyways for free. I took it off a few days later though because I did NOT like it at all.
