It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

    1. I got my doll from someone else who had given it her own face-up. I have a friend who's really into BJDs herself, and she helped me remove it and everything; we ended up commissioning another face up artist. I guess I was really lucky to have a friend who knew what to do. I had the image of my doll in mind, so commissioning for a face up ended up working really well for me.

    2. I ordered my first doll with face-up because I don;t have the confidence to do it right myself-- and most of the time I end up hating the things I do. XD; Which is why I would continue ordering with face-up no matter what.

    3. I ordered my first doll without face-up ^^ I thought I would give it a try since I enjoy doing make-up on people as well.

It was a bit intimidating at first, after reading all the do's and don'ts regarding face-up. But I was able to ask my sister for help and advice about the most suitable art supplies to use. I was really happy with my first attempt, but after a month or so, I decided to wipe it and try again. I love him more and more each time, I think because of the work or time I put into doing it. xD I realized that I really enjoy doing face-ups and this way of bonding, so I ordered my other dolls blank as well.

    4. Face ups are the first step of bonding with my doll~

    5. My first doll was ordered without a faceup. My second one--which actually arrived before my first--had one from the previous owner but I asked her to wipe it off before she sent him for shipping. Eventually I realized I'm okay with not ordering a doll with faceups. I'm kind of in the same boat with Maple Squad, it's a first step to bonding with my doll~

    6. I think it all depends on the person. I personally don't like factory faceups and never have. Sure, some are gorgeous! But they aren't personal to me. They aren't MY character. I currently have ONE doll with a factory faceup and that's only because I wanted him immediately and the only US store that had him in stock had a faceup. And I DO like his face, and probably will leave it unless it gets damaged. Four of my others had faceups when I got them, but all were wiped and redone to fit my characters. Also, doing the faceup is a bonding experience for me.

    7. Well my first doll was second-hand and already had one. But the first doll I ordered, I got with a face-up and I'm glad I did since I was able to play with her and bond right away. I'm also not that secure in my artistic talents. I recently got a BBB Rachael with a default face-up, but it's very subtle, so I'm going to try touching it up/adding to it for some practice. One day I want to be able to do my own face-ups. (:

    8. When I ordered my first doll I got him with a face-up as I knew it'd be a while before I could save up the money for his face-up and body work that needed to happen. I also knew that doing a face-up is not in my skill set. I have trouble putting make up on my own face and I wasn't about to futz around trying to do it on my doll.

I have since ordered/bought dolls with and without face-ups. Some were off the MP and had a perfect face-up that I wouldn't dream of changing. Others had a face-up that I got changed as soon as humanly possible. I'm okay with having a blank doll for a while until I can get him into my fav face-up artist.

    9. I got my very first boy with a faceup since I had no idea how to do one and didn't want to mess up :/ Hopefully with dolls in the future I will attempt to paint faceups on them.

    10. My dolls came without faceup, because I settled an agreement with customizer prior to ordering them. She did a custom faceups to create a characters I wanted.

    11. My first doll does have a face up. I don't have the tools to do it myself, and I don't have the money to buy them, after actually buying the doll. That being said, I'd also be afraid that the faceup would be terrible, and I'd have to send her out for months for a new one, or I'd stop loving her. As it is, the default is pretty and good enough for me, and I might buy a cheap hujoo one day just to play around with faceups and blushing.

    12. Both of my dolls came with default face-ups (Mihr doesn't have it on his romantic head though). I think if you're just starting out, it might be good, since you don't have experience(and mostly likely the supplies) for doing face-ups and/or may not know anyone you can commission for a face-up. Later you can raise the money to buy the supplies or commission someone for one. :>

    13. All of my dolls through the years have come with their default face-ups.

    14. I purchased my doll with a face up. It is now two months later and she has no face up. I must learn to do this eyebrow thing. Ugh

    15. Waiting for my first doll now but I did order her with a face up. I have studied and thought about getting no face up but ended up just getting the face up. I would like to try a face up in the future but right now I cant really get the supplies that I need for face ups. When I get my doll, at most I will change slight things in the makeup but that is about all I can do right now.

    16. I got my first doll with a faceup and not until my third doll did I not get a faceup. I took an overseas trip and got really behind on dolly-stuff and didn't get his faceup when I intended. In the end I did a dismal amateur one since his blank face irked me so much and he's finally getting his nice pretty professional one next month :D. In short, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Unless you have the money/plans to get s/he a faceup immediately after recieving shim.

    17. I'm definitely buying my first without a faceup, and if I end up not being able to do it myself I'll... practice more, because I haven't got the money for a custom  I agree with some of the people who feel like factory faceups aren't as personal feeling, and I love customizing things and making them totally my own. Plus, Caroline needs a pretty wacky makeup job that I would rather trust myself with :P

    18. My first doll...and the two subsequent ones...all came with faceups. I'm just too leery of Testors (keep hearing mixed reviews on it) and I don't have MSC for it...and i'm not sure if I want to pay for it imported all that way >BU

    19. I'll order my first doll with a faceup by the company so I can take pictures of him right away. I'm kinda scared to give him a faceup myself since I'm not confident with my skills... xD;
I'm planning to buy another head (without faceup) though. maybe I'll practice on that one...

    20. I ordered my first without, I knew from the get go that I wanted to do a lot of the customization myself so even though I was scared at first I forced myself to do that first one. After that I realized how much fun it is, so only one of my bjds has ever had a factory faceup and that's only because it was free.
