First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

1. I decided that I no better create makeup what I need so I learned myself. And pleased with what I can do it. ::3

2. Even though I don't own a doll yet but I prefer to have the company doing the face-up for me.
I don't trust my hands LOL. I have shaky hands and I'm quite a klutz. XD!
The company's face-ups are really pretty anyways, from what I've seen so far~ ^^

3. Artists, go for it. New doll fans/owners might feel less disappointing, and bond better with a doll if they get a face up they can remove at their leisure?
I started with an off topic vynal doll in the 1/6 hobby, invested $60 bucks and ended up replacing the head because the paint soaked into the vynal over a few months, and spread a stain, even though it was the recommended paint and I had sealed the head first. So you have to really do your research and still not trust everything you hear until you've tested on a non obvious spot like the bottom of a foot or something. Then again, there are lots of tutorials out there in the past year that weren't there when I got my first blank, so maybe the atmosphere is more helpful to new doll fans. If you're good at putting on make up, you'll probably have no trouble doing a face up first time out. Mr. Super Clear and water color pencils that can be spread with a damp brush are my best friends. ^_^

4. I ordered my first one with a faceup. But the doll I'm eying next I'm not a fan of her default faceup. So I'm weighing whether to buy the girl and do the faceup on her, or buy a cheaper head to practice on first and then get her.

5. I don't have any BJD, yet, but I'm thinking in order it with the face-up done. I prefer to do it when feel more "comfortable" with the doll...or maybe my next one ;)

6. The first two dolls I had were bought off the marketplace and already had faceups, so I didn't have much of a choice there. The girl I'm saving for now though I'm getting with a face up, or that's the plan anyway. Would it be cheaper if I got her without it? Yeah, but then I would want to send her some where to get one and I don't want to do that right after I get her. I just feel as if it makes the dolls look 'complete'. The only way I would order a doll without a faceup is if I could do it myself.

7. For me the whole point of getting a BJD was so that I could make her look exactly as I wanted my doll to look so I have never paid for a face-up from the very first doll. I have gotten a few second hand dolls that already had face-ups but they have all been wiped and redone after a short while, it's just too much fun doing face-ups :)

8. I guess it depends on what you want for the doll. I got my first with a faceup, though I do regret it. I wiped it in the end.
Personally I feel a custom faceup can really make you appreciate the true beauty and versatility of a doll alot more than a company faceup can. It also makes you bond on a deeper level with them, as the originality of a custom faceup can make a doll feel truely your own <3. Faceups are a powerful thing :3! They can honestly be the turning point between keeping and selling a dorrie!

However I can see how a new doll owner would be overwhelmed by it all, but in my experience if you're going to go through all the trouble of buying a doll, you might aswell make them as perfect and suited to you personally as you can!

9. i think you should only get the face-up if you REALLY love it. if you receive the doll and only just think the face-up is okay, you're more likely to spend extra money on getting it redone by a customizer.
but, on the other had, if you love that face-up, then absolutely!
people buy dolls because we really love them, so we should have the faces we want! ❛‿❛

10. So far I've ordered company face-ups for both my dolls. I own all the materials for doing face-ups it's just a bit intimidating. I'm thinking about getting a practice head soon so I can try it out.
Anyways, for me getting the company face-up was the best path. It kept me from stressing out whether or not I would be able to do it properly and allowed me to just be happy and relaxed when my doll arrived.

11. I purchased my first one with a faceup. I don't have the skills or supplies to try doing it myself (yet...)

12. Without. I had been doing some face-ups before already and really wanted to become a face-up artist.
So I'd be one of the few who bought their first doll without a face-up.

13. It's a case-to-case basis whether a doll should be purchased with a company face-up or not. Why pay for a face-up that doesn't suit the doll's character? It also depends whether you are confident with your art skills or not. I purchased my first (and currently, only) doll without a face-up, with full intention of doing it myself. Now I'm finished, I'm quite happy with the result. It's nowhere near perfect, but it's good enough! My only tip for those who are about to do face-ups for the first time: RESEARCH. XD Make sure you have the right materials and look at lots of face-up photos for reference.

Here's what my first face-up looks like:

14. i just pay my first BJD 2 days ago and it goes with face up ~
since in real life i don't know how and never put make up on my face , so i don't want my boy to be blank face :sweat

15. My first doll came with no face-up, because I wanted to ask someone to make a special face-up, and now my Nina is in a modder!ToT" (before the face-up she must have modding in her eyes:()

16. I bought my first doll with a face-up because I wanted to have a real life reference when I got my second doll. I'm glad I got it with face-up though, because it helps give me ideas for what to do to improve my own painting techniques.

17. I got my first boy with a faceup because i knew i couldn't do it by my self :'D And i didn't trust my own skills to even try to do face-ups. And ofc it was easier that way. I wanted my first little boy to be ready when i got him.
And still ,even i got 5 dolls i still wont make their face-ups because i dont have skills for it. I actually bought a practising head but still :''D I need lots of more practise before i can accept my own work to my dolls. Hehe.

18. I think it doesn't really matter, whether you get your first doll with or without face-up. I got my first girl with face-up, because I liked her that way. The second was the same. I tried my first face-up on the third and the two that came after that, because I didn't want the default one and I thought it might have been difficult to ask for a custom face-up.

19. I got my first doll with a faceup only because I have no artistic skills. :o My second doll was purchased without a faceup and I sent her to a very talented lady who did the faceup. Most of the dolls I get now have faceups, just don't have the time or money to send them all out for one.

20. I just got my first doll--
I think it was worth the extra money to get the face-up.
I could just not do that on the first go on my first doll.

Though, it didn't come sealed--had to do that reaaally easy part myself. :B
