1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

    1. My first BJD was a second hand doll, she came with a Limited face-up, because she was sell for the first Ldoll by peakswood ^^

    2. bought mine with a face up. Maybe after I get bored of the factory face up I will send her head to my best friend who is now doing face ups. I would do it myself, but I don't want to have to pay for all the materials to do one.

    3. My first was without, and I regretted it for a month or so until I was able to commission someone. I did not have the necessary tools to do a faceup that looked good enough.

I think that unless the person is a great artist with the necessary tools on hand, one should get their first with a faceup.

    4. I got my first one with the default face-up. I am nowhere talented or patient enough to make my own face-up and I had no idea who to commission for a face-up. But I am planning to own a few custom dolls one day :)

    5. When I got my first doll... all I had seen were company photos of dolls, or dolls that had company faceups. I didn't even know you could paint your own faceups on dolls using normal artist materials you can buy from the art store! o.O They all looked so beautiful I didn't even know it was possible to be painted by a human lol. So I didn't give it much thought and of course, ordered my doll with a faceup because blank dolls look kind of creepy to me. I didn't trust myself or my skills to paint a faceup and didn't have access to the Marketplace at the time so I didn't know about commissioning someone either.

    6. My first doll had the basics. I debated getting one of those diy sets, but it made me too nervous.

    7. My first doll was actually third-hand, and the previous owner had commissioned a gorgeous face-up by Mingyi. I think that it might be better to get the first doll with a face-up, because you immediately get to enjoy the doll instead of stressing out and rushing the face-up.

My second doll (third-hand) already has a face-up, and while I love the sculpt, I don't like her current face-up, so I'll be changing that. I also ordered my HDF Lolly without face-up, because I want to do it myself. :)

It probably just depends on the owner, because some people are too afraid to do face-ups, or maybe think that they don't have the ability to do it beautifully, and it's totally fine if they order all their dolls with face-up. Personally, I think it would be good for a BJD owner to try doing a face-up at least once. :)

    8. i got shay with makeup and geneva is on the way with make up too but i will probably get them redone on day int he future

    9. XD Without head! ahahaha
The second one came without a faceup. I got the tools already so it's not a problem.

    10. My first one came with a free-face up~

    11. Mine will have a faceup, I can't paint or anything and I don't plan on sending it somewhere to get a faceup.

    12. I ordered mine with a faceup because Dearmine has gorgeous faceups for their dolls.

    13. I got my first doll with a face up. Honestly, I think those who are new to the hobby (and don't have a decent amount of face-up skills like me) should get a default faceup or at least commission one right away. The reason being (IMO), the doll's faceup is what gives it the load of personality that owners get attached to. It's possible to have a bit of falling out with your doll if you aren't a bit experienced and can see the face-up potentials within a blank sculpt.

    14. I did get my first bjd without a faceup and then had to wait while her head was gone :/ I got into this hobby largely for the ability to customize and it bugged me to think that she would have a "default" face. However I think it makes a lot of sense to get a first doll with a face up. You can always change it later and that way you have a doll that you can play with right out of the box :)

    15. My first two were blank and I did their faceups myself. I feel that it made me closer to them to create them from scratch. I have redone my first's faceup once but she still feels like here, just an improved version

    16. Mine was blank. I hated the factory face-up for the head, but I loved the shape of the features. I actually kind of like her without anything (though I also don't understand makeup on people, either). The wig hides the fact that she's got no eyebrows. Other than that... what's needed, really?

    17. My first doll was for a specific OC and has a certain look. I ordered him blank, and my friend and 'dolly guru' did his wonderful face-up for me.

    18. I got my Sayuri third-hand and she was already with the face-up. It was nice but probably quite old and a bit damaged so I sent her off for new face-up. If I were to buy new doll from company I would buy it with face-up. I can't draw at all, so I wouldn't be able to do a face-up myself.

    19. My first doll's coming home with a free faceup courtesy of Souldoll's summer promo! The promo was just a bonus though, I think I'd prefer for all my future dolls (if any) to have faceups when they arrive home. I'm 20 and I haven't even so much as tried to paint on my own face, how much less my doll's!

    20. My first doll was purchased second-hand, and he came with a faceup from his previous owner. :)
