It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

    1. My first doll was with a face up but that is because it was a lati special edition doll.

    2. My first doll was with a face up. For two reasons.
1). I dont have all the materialsto do a face up.
2). It was a good first impression. After seeing my DF-H doll for the first t ime with a face up gave me a better idea of how I wanted my boy to look like character wise.

I think its a good idea. Also seeing such a pretty sculpt blank creeps me out. I like make up. Lol

    3. 4 out of 5 of my dolls already came with a faceup because 3 of them were secondhand. I ordered my "grail" doll blank because I would like to customize him myself. It's all a matter of interest, and how much extra you want to spend!

    4. Without face up if it isn't limited edition or being like... One of two. Other than that I'd do my own face ups, gotta start with no restraints before being able to fly, right?

    5. I'm a new collector and I wanted my first doll complete. It was an awesome experience to have a complete doll, painted and standing right out of the box. I feel lucky as a newbie. Plus I liked everything about him as he was painted. I didn't want to change a thing.

Plus after dropping a bundle on clothes and doll etc., I wasn't ready to spend more on expensive supplies yet or to use him as my practice canvas. I know I'll get to face-ups at some point but there's no rush. One step at a time I told myself.

But generally the company face up is something I like. I have since ordered some without face-up because I want a commissioned artist to bring them to life instead. There are so many talented artists.

    6. I used to get my dolls blank, but since I've got CT and my fine motor skills have grown kind of sketchy I've been getting them with faceups.

It's a pity, doing them was good fun.

    7. i got my first without, i still haven't done her new face up yet, but that's cause tennessee weather sucks.

    8. I have notoriously shakey hands my only face up I've done that was decent is still kind of crappy...I'm not good with drawing on paper...I'd rather face up but most of my dolls I get without face up...Stay without face up. I feel they look more natural..XD; My first is without face up still and she's staying that way.

    9. Unless you have a particular interest in doing the faceup yourself, or if you really dislike the faceup offered, I would defintely recommend getting the faceup done. In the latter case, I would even go so far as to suggest contacting the company and requesting a custom faceup, or perhaps asking for a faceup used on one of their other dolls.

I just personally think worrying about getting the faceup done on your first doll is too much to deal with. I really love the company face ups anyway, and you know you're going to get a good job. Also you won't have to send your new dollie away as soon as you get it!

    10. I got my first two with faceup because they were fullset, my second group came also with faceup because they were too tiny and I was sure I would have never ever ever do a small faceup (I was afraid) but then I got two floating heads (FL multiheads) and I do it, they weren't perfect but also not that bad :) so now I think I can re-do my realpukis faceups too when it'll be the moment

    11. I did my first two dolls' face ups because I had all the supplies. With my PKF, I ordered her with a faceup because I didn't want to mess up her tiny face.

    12. With a face-up Im new and all to BJD so that was the safe way to go . I didnt want to ruin my doll's face

    13. I have bought my dolls with a faceup. I would be too worrried to do one myself. Even when you buy with face up they can vary depending on the painter at the factory. If I bought a doll without a face up I would choose an artist to paint the face for me.

    14. I haven't gotten my first BJD yet, but I plan to get one with the company faceup when I do. It'll definitely look better than anything I tried to do myself! XD And I don't want to risk sending my very first doll head to a third party.

    15. My first doll is coming with a company face up, but I'll most likely wipe and do again.

    16. This was really interesting to read because I'm currently saving up for my first doll and was wondering what others have done.

Are faceups hard to do if your not artistic and good at drawing?

    17. I got my first doll with face up.
Doing face up will be extremely hard for beginners, and the company face up just make it easier..

    18. I'm a terrible painter, so I get factory face-ups when I can and have my lovely talented sister do my face-ups when I want one.

    19. I got my first bjd, was going to hav ll the trimmings. Is what I said at first.my first doll, had a face up, and not until I got my third one that is when I did face- ups myself. Woot I love face-ups, but the new lol I am getting I am paying for a face-up. :)

    20. I got my first one with a face-up because I wanted to start taking photos of her right away. Now that I know someone locally who does face-ups any future dolls I may buy would be blank. That way I could customize from the the beginning.
