1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. First doll w/ or w/o a face-up?

Feb 11, 2011

    1. I got my first with a faceup, second i did the faceup myself. It depends on the doll, out of 9 dolls so far, i bought 5 with faceup (4 with company, one a custom thr previous owner got done) and am doing the faceups for two right now and completed the two others with decent success :)

    2. I also went with a face up for my first doll. It seemed a bit less frightening to go with the whole package while I am still learning.

    3. THe doll im waiting on, I ordered her without a face up. I couldn't afford it so while im waiting for her i plan on doing her face up myself the first time and if i absolutely hate it I'll start looking for someone who does faceups. I have a background in art so I THINK i would be okay at it so long as i dont rush it and be sure to get the right supplies otherwise i have no problem finding someone else to do it :3

    4. I got my first doll with the face up, and probably will continue to do so. After hearing so many horror stories of face ups gone wrong and people stealing heads have really freaked me out. I know its not fair to the genuine artists that do amazing jobs and are very trustworthy, its just I can't do it. I wouldn't be able to sit around comfortably knowing something I've spent so much money on is in somebody else's care. Somebody I know nothing about. It really freaks me out.

    5. This first doll im getting has a faceup~ I think its best to get it with a faceup first :)

    6. My first few dolls all had company faceups because I know I would never be able to do a good job on a faceup that I would be happy with. It's only now that I have found a style of faceup that I really like that I tend to order blank dolls and then send them away to a faceup artist to have the faceup done that way

    7. I got my first girl with a face up but mostly because Dreamhigh studio only sells his dolls with body and face ups. But I’ve been thinking about being daring for my next doll (possibly a realpuki) and doing my own face up…but i’m trying to do a lot of research before making the choice because i’d hate to have a blank doll that I don’t think I can do a good job on lol

    8. I'm waiting on my first doll to arrive, and I ordered him without the face up. The company's faceup is quite alright, but not the style I'm looking for on my doll. I could probably have giving them instructions on how to make it the way I want it, but seeing how their English are I wouldn't expect to get it 100% right anyhow. Luckily for me I've got a friend who's a killer on face ups, and have the exact style I'm looking for (she's partly the reason I'm into this hobby nowadays), so I'd rather get my doll blank, and then pay her to give him a face up which I can describe directly over her shoulder while she's working on him. Not literally, but yeah xD

If I hadn't had a friend like that I'd probably ordered him with a face up, then keep that until I found someone with the style that I'm looking for, to get him redone the way I want him. To try to do a faceup oneself, is something that's up to the owner. I've seen some (quite, in my taste) horrible face ups, made by owners, which absolutely loves it - so I see no harm in trying out for yourself. If that's in the person's interest :)

    9. My first two heads, I got blank, since that was the only option. And they're still blank. :sweat But my first full doll came with a face-up, and whenever I order a second, he/she probably will as well. I don't have the confidence to try one on my own...yet =P

    10. I ordered my first with a face up. At the moment, I'm still waiting for him to arrive. When he does, then I'll decide, but I'm definitely considering changing it a bit to match the character better. Mostly why I got the faceup is that while I enjoy drawing and painting and am artistic in that way, I'm afraid I'd do it wrong. Mostly the eyebrows, they're so important to a face. And I can always (theoretically?) add more layers once I get sealant, right? But when it comes time to wipe it and touch him up, it'll be fine. Another thing is that I've never seen a BJD in person, so naturally I want to see a correctly done faceup in person before I go for it myself. Once it's time, I've got pastels and acrylics already here. :) This paragraph is really disjointed, sorry.

    11. I got my first doll with a face up because I could not do the face up myself, nor did I know anyone who could. As for anyone's first doll, personally I think it is really up to the soon-to-be owner. I would highly advise for the first doll to be bought with a face up, but that is just me. :)

    12. I bought my first doll second hand and he came with a face up that I planned to clear off, but it happened to be exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to leave it this way. My second doll I was planning to do the face up, but I still was not that sure about my skills and decided to take a slot with a great artist that made exactly what I wanted. Now, on the thrid one, I'll doing the face up by myself.

I don't regret getting my two first dolls with face ups because now I can analise them to understand what I must do. Having good examples at home is greater than just checking some tutorials on internet, imo.

    13. I ordered my first doll with a face up.

Mostly because I want to enjoy her right away (not that you can't enough a doll without a face up!). But I'm still learning about all things BJDs, and I didn't feel like I would be ready when she arrived to do a face up myself. I also have to do some research and find out what I need to get to do them. I'm considering ordering a head or something to practice on, but that will be after I've paid for my doll and some items for her.

    14. I'm not artistic at all, so for me I will most likely get all my dolls with face ups. I'm not brave enough to attempt doing it myself ;)

    15. Tracy angels- i totally agree with u!
Iam so excited to have just received my first doll and i chose a face-up though i did look at lots n lots of picz comparing with the blank face picz online :o but i personally like the factory face-up only coz i cannot even imagine all the specialist equipment that the face-up artists use like- tiny spray guns and tiny tiny brushes :) hehe
but if i ever decide to purchase without the face-up i think i would start hyper-venting just at the thought of things like freckles or blush
*Look!! I'm starting to twitch as type ! LOL
*But I so look up to all the peeps that go for it !!!? :D

    16. I ordered a doll w/o makeup, I think I have artistic skills so painting makeup won't be hard to me.

    17. Without a face-up - partially because the sculpt was only available as a blank head, and partially because I wanted to be able to do them for myself so that I wouldn't be afraid of enjoying my dolls. I don't like the idea of being so precious about keeping the face-up perfect that I can't even touch the head!

    18. My first doll is on layaway, and she will come with a faceup. I found someone in the market place to sell me a blank head to practice on for somewhat cheap. I cannot imagine taking my first doll and trying to learn how to do faceups on her when she is so expensive! I feel safer practicing on the practice head :) If I get comfortable with it, then I will eventually do my own faceups.. The trick for me is, I live in Arkansas and during the summer, humidity is always SUPER high. I can't seal a doll when it's humid according to the tutorials I have read. I have an indoor spray booth that can vent out the window, and a chemical mask, but I need to get an extension tube for my spray booth so it can reach the window.

    19. My first doll came ready to play with straight out of its box, complete with a body, face-up, eyes and wig. Customizing is a no-no for me. I prefer and get much more enjoyment from the artistry of others.

    20. definitely face up!

I love box opening vids but personally like it better when they have a face up, theres no life/personality with a blank doll and first impressions are lasting impressions after all! :)
